- Join us as we explore the beautiful village of Bourton-on-the-Water in the heart of the Cotswolds, warmly regarded at the”Venice of the Cotswolds”!
We were there in late July and as you can imagine the village was somewhat busy…however, we get to explore the river, low bridges and traditional stone houses! Elaine also reenacts a photo moment from her childhood…

In the 1990s I visited Bourton in the Water on a family trip to celebrate my great grandmother's 100th birthday. There were lots of us so we hired a coach and went on a tour of Gloucestershire where she was bought up. I remember paddling in the river. It was a really hot summer's day so the cool water was really refreshing.
I also know the village to be the home of Brum from the kids TV show!

I DON'T THINK THE RIVER 'WINDRUSH' HAS EVER FLOODED, BUT KEEPS MOVING , SO IS ALWAYS CLEAR. SUCH A PLUS, FOR THE KIDDIES TO PADDLE, AND THE DOGGIES.

Mobbed, I have never been to Bourton on the Water. Looks lovely but so busy.
It was because of the school holidays plus everyone is taking staycations, I'm guessing...we've been before but have never seen so much tourist traffic there before!
@@unowhotravelchannel Yes we are seeing more now. I hope our planned trip is quieter as we head for off the beaten track places for a week or two.

You guys have been exploring the COTSWOLDS too. I have been Poppins there over thr weekends recently for a van night here and here. Thankfully quite close to me. Boughton is lovely x
We were keen to take our daughter's american boyfriend there to show him the quaint cottages, it was lovely but so so busy!
This area reminds us of Venice beach a little. There's a residential area that looks very similar. Would love to rent an Airbnb here. It looks like a very fun town to spend a few days.

Visited in August 2019. Amazing, quiet, peaceful village. I enjoyed every minute. The model train shop was an unexpected "plus". Greetings from Pisa.

There is now rather too much enthusiasm for this village. It is being overrun with irresponsible tourists who have no thought for the people living there. They are now experiencing massive disruption to their lives. Litter is being left everywhere & car parks & parks are being used as toilets with urine & human excrement being left for others to clean up. People as so utterly thoughtless & selfish. Up to 5,000 cars a day are descending upon this small village so if your planning on going please, think again.
Thanks Ian for your comments. We were unbelievably surprised how busy it was, we were putting it down to a mixture of it being the summer and people doing staycations, so to speak! Absolutely agree with the litter issue but that is a problem everywhere, unfortunately some people just do not care! We have been there before out of season and its been much much quieter...
AS YOU NOTED ABOVE. THE DATE WAS POST LOCKDOWN, PEOPLE WERE FED-UP OF BEING LOCKED AT HOME. ADD THE BEAUTIFUL WEATHER, AND THEFACT THAT BOURTON IS ALWAYS POPULAR, AND YOU HAVE THAT EXCEPTIONAL SITUATION. AS FOR THE LITTER ETC, PROVIDING THE COUNCIL PROVIDES SUFFICIENT TOILETS, AND WASTE BINS, AND CLEAR THEM REGULARLY, OTHERWISE PEOPLE SHOULD BAG THEIR JUNK ANDTAKE IT HOME WITH THEM.@@unowhotravelchannel
