  • In this video i show you guys how you can repair your ECM for a C4 Corvette. This is not a guarantee fix for everyone. It may or may not work. It worked for me.
I didn't explain this on the video but please be aware that the acetone is not the best way for removing con formal coating as it is pretty strong. It can damage some components on some PCB boards. I used it here because its an old PCB board and i didn't want to spend on a special remover assuming i knew the type of con-formal coat used.
There's different con-formal coat types and different solvents to remove them.
I suggest using the 99 percent alcohol and see if that removes the com-formal coating. If that doesn't work then try the acetone at your own risk but leave it in the acetone for less than 30 minutes instead.

on my 1993 corvette, have 2 ecms. both show c41 codes and ERR, module 4. So I did this fix on one ,and "I'llbegotohell"... it worked! I was very skeptical that it would not work, but it did, and I am happy!!

Did this on my 93, got an engine code for loss of communication with the ECM. Car ran terribly. Was tight on money and gave this a shot and now the car runs better than ever before, truly amazing.
I tried using alcohol to get the coating off the board at first but it did NOT work even a little bit. Acetone did the trick but only leave it in for one minute max and use a toothbrush to gently get the coating away.
Has been a year now, and the fix is still holding strong. Thanks!

What codes did you have prior to this and do you have any other tips?

Also, is there no need to put the coating back afterwards?

What type of liquid Flux was that.

I would not recommend acetone all over the whole thing like this, that iron core transformer on the board is likely to be damaged, the windings are coated in varnish, and acetone may take that off.

Thanks for pointing that out. I do mention it in the description but not in the video.

@@tronicsquest6637 probably considerably more important in the video than in the description!

I am having the exact same issues with my 92 Corvette. I have a few questions - So after you soak the board in Acetone you use brushes to remove the Conformal Coating? Also - At the end of the video you soak the board in Isopropyl Alcohol and then add a coat of the Conformal Coating? This is after you do the Flux step? Sorry, I got confused🙂

Hi there, I would try removing the conformal coating by soaking it in alcohol instead. Acetone is very strong and i mentioned it in the description. But if you have already done that then its fine. At the end of the video i soak it in alcohol to remove the flux. after letting it dry then you can reapply conformal coating. But test it first to make sure its working before you reapply conformal coating.

Where did you learn this method? I’m amazed. I’m having hard start problems with my ‘95 Base Corvette motor in my 1934 pickup. I’ve replaced a lot of things, so now I’m suspicious of the computer.

Hi there, I used to work for a semiconductor company that designed adhesives for semiconductors. I was an engineer there. Overtime the wire boding inside the semiconductors break due to a bad internal adhesive. The adhesive is suppose to withstand different changes of temperature from the die and the substrate. Overtime the adhesive fails and breaks the connection. So heating it up like I did in the video can help re-solder the wire bonding and move things back into place.

@acobbs9 no, im in europe and noone in europe can repair it apparently, in the USA there are some services though but the cost + shipping taxes and import fees was so high that i just bought a new used one instead. Car runs perfectly again.
