I have a whole archive of pictures of the models of various Trek ships, including various points in the history of the model. With the 1974 appearance of the model, where the uncompleted side simply had huge patches covering the holes, the 1984 seemed to remove those and just fill in the holes. The 1991 appearance where it got the "rain gutters" in place of the penciled on grid lines. Which was also present on the model made for the DS9 episode. Fortunately, the top of the saucer was the only part of the original filming model that hadn't been altered over the years.

@@stevearts85 Well, then you better tell the Okudas, etc. because they were a big part in the restoration of the model.
@@stevearts85 Like, the bussard end caps, etc. they're not as exciting to look at when they're off, just frosted domes at that point.
Lights add an extra dimension of life to a model.
The had originally not intended to light up the model for display, but when someone shined their phone light down inside and it illuminated the windows, they decided to light the model up as the lighting added a lot of depth to the model.
That's the most ridiculous & inconsistent thing I have ever heard.
The surface detail was ruined to light the ship & if they were restoring it to how it was when being used in production that should have included being Lit.
@@stevearts85 Well, that's what the lead project lady said when talking to Adam Savage about the decision to relight the model when they were restoring it for display.
Your facts are uncoordinated. They did not try to restore it to it's original state. They did not do the original nacelle end caps, the spires, the larger bridge. And they didn't say they were going to, anyway. They said that they were restoring it to the state it was in during The Trouble with Tribbles. And they did. One side is finished and the model is lit. And the nacelle and bridge details are that of the series, not the pilots.
You can see on the left side the residue of where the original markings that you are talking about were.
Greg Jein did the Trials Enterprise. Andrew Probert worked on Star Trek: The Motion Picture and designed the Next Generation Enterprise.
Yea, they weren't restoring the model to its first iteration in The Cage, but it's later depiction. Which they did beautifully. With the help of the Okudas, etc.
I am 100% correct in my position. The Model was delivered finished & altered, they could have included all the alterations & still presented it as a finished model even if those windows had been painted over with Gray paint when they put the wires in. The Decision to present it in it's working state during production complete with wires exposed degrades the ship & Model for no good reason.
I love the Okudas- they have an extensive knowledge of Trek but they do not always make the correct choices. Like Not Fixing the "James R Kirk" Grave stone in Where No One Has Gone Before & Not making the Phasers consistent & Not Showing the Enterprise Go To Warp or at Warp when the Script Clearly States it.
@@stevearts85 I think it's a very niche group of people that would have an issue with it like you do. Most people I've seen are just jazzed to see the model in this restored state on display.
