I learned this from firefighters. They do it in -50 sweatier. They put antifreeze in a spray bottle and spray it on the hydrant threads before they attach the hoses. It keeps the hoses from sticking to the hydrant threads. Works great for metal door jambs, metal doors, and garage doors.
go to know!
Wd40 will do the same thing
@@shake9574antifreeze is cheaper
And a lot better than soaking your home in antifreeze. @@shake9574
I’m a firefighter and live an hour from Canada it’s wicked cold here same temps as wassila on average
Never heard this
Timmy, your life is insanely active and accomplished. So much to be proud of. You're an inspiration to all the men in the world.
Thank you:)
+1
He's a huge inspiration. I think part of it is he just comes across as every man. Nothing special just somebody who wants a different life.
Please someone bring Twinkie the bird another parakeet, so she's not lonely. Thank you. 🐦💌💞💕
It seems like Tim is a good carpenter, he adjusts his door and he builds his own home and does a really good job at both. I look at what he has done to expand his home and it is amazingly well done.
Almost 52 year old cop here. Tim you are inspiring this old dog to learn new tricks. You have the spirit of an old school explorer who understands its never about the destination, its all about the journey. Can't wait to see you drive to the Arctic Ocean, put up your feet up by the fire, enjoy a home cooked meal and chill. I think Lewis & Clark would have enjoyed hanging with you!
Moment of truth...he says...like a.......glove.....i said.... good neighbor.....state farm IS THERE!!!!! 😂😂😂
3” is the magic number for the bottom of the door to the deck in all situations. Also, a Dutch style door is nice for the heavier snowfalls. It allows the top half to open enough for to climb out in case of an emergency. The last thing you want is to wake up in the middle of the night to your camper on fire just to find out your doors frozen shut on you.
I often wondered why he didn’t switch to that style of door.
Man that truck you have id take that truck over any other vehicle in the world you have the best set up and to top that off you built it yourself
Nice job on the door Timmy. Advice from an old school carpenter. Leave your door on the hinges and scribe the 11/4” on the bottom, then take it off and cut the bottom. This helps if the floor and door bottom aren’t even. You can even make your cut on a little bevel. Had to do this all the time before pre-hung doors. Blessings
thanks bob:)
always a know it all don't know nuthin he fixed it bozo
The threshold is a great addition. One suggestion, turn it so the screws are inside the camper. Enjoy the content.
A door sweep would help to keep some of the cold out also.
Watching the vintage Ford Powerstroke forge through the frozen tundra makes me proud. My '97 leads a sheltered life compared to the extreme tests you subject yours to. The 7.3L is a wonderful power plant! Great choice! Keep on trucking!
You may want to water proof seal that fresh wood cut area on the bottom of the door
Dang it’s 2 days later and I’m seeing this and now I want an artic travel update 😅😅😅
Awesome video as always Timmy. Can't wait to watch your next epic adventure to the Arctic ocean. Thanks for letting us ride along with you on your adventures.
Always checking on your next adventure. The house build, the trips in the truck, kayaking and snow sledding. Adventures that you share with us. Actually sharing your life with us. Thank you!
Timmy I appreciate your tenacity. Never stop trying! Love your adventures my dude.
Great to hear that you took the advice from the community and not cold start the engine anymore. As a mechanic myself I always winced a bit at every start of the engine.
Awesome content as always
I would put a blade sweep seal on the underside of the door, it will provide double protection with the threshold seal, to prevent water from blowing up underneath, it’s a matter of choice.
Thanks for the entertainment. I'm still sober in south Dakota
The resistance is caused bc you are using the firm wood. If you can use some type of suspension forks or add front suspension in some form or another, you would have much better success with carbide ski.
This guy has birds.. smh he must be a light worker 👏🏻💫
Always feels good to wrap up a bunch of small projects. Will be so nice not to fight the ice at the door & no more snow inside, nice job.
Twinkie needs a friend! 🦜
I can’t wait to see more videos of the new house build
before too long!
Awesome 🤙
Agreed!
A remote start for the truck would make cold mornings easier.
No more cold starts 🙏
Use silicone spray on the rubber threshold so the door wont freeze to it. It works great on the cab door seals as well.
-2 , ouch from San Antonio, Texas .
Coldest place I’ve ever been was up in the mountains of Germany during a military exercise called REFORGER. It was hitting -40 plus even lower with the windchill factor. Sleeping inside of a GP Small tent with a bunch of soldiers while out Yukon stove was cherry hot & the Section Chief toasting his bread on it , priceless.
I swear all I want to call your truck is the “Tramper” 😂😂😂😂
Never in a million years did i think id be sitting here watching someone replace a door handle mechanism/latch especially on the back of an old 7.3 yet here we are and i love it. 😂 keep it up tim i just watched the newest vid and came back to re watch this guy now im inpatiently waiting for a new vid😂😂
That arctic series appeared on home screen over Christmas break and it was awesome! Really enjoyed the house build as well! Great stuff, really cool to follow along.
I love your videos. Watching you do all this interesting stuff tells me I'm not doing enough😂
You should get a flat bead trailer with a fold down ramp so your center of gravity isn’t so high, plus Timmy the shit out if it with boxes, bigger snow tires, etc.
I'm so excited you're returning to the Artic. Can't wait!!!!
👏👏 Love Your Channel So Much!! Thanks!!
Sorry to hear you lost your parakeet. I lot mine about two years ago, loved those little fellas
Love all the adventures. I own a 96 F250 Powerstroke and I’m looking forward to you making an extensive video on your mods. About your snow bike, try attaching skate board rails to the bottom of the snow board.
After seeing you fix that snow bike with a block of wood, I've come to the conclusion: You're the Red Green of Alaska.
lol
Love watching these adventures
Patiently waiting in Ohio
Can’t wait to see your up and coming adventures Timmy. Love the van life vlogs. Keep safe and see you in your next video bro. 💯🤙🏻🔥
End grain absorbs the most water. You could cut the door a little shorter and glue and screw 1x to the bottom. Either way seal the wood!!!
You may want to put some chalk or silicone sealant along the end of your threshold to stop water from seeping into the camper. It may be hard to get it to stick unless you can dry out the wood . TO replace a rear seal and brake pads shouldn't cost close to what they quoted you. They must charge a small fortune per hour because a decent mechanic should be able to replace both seals and install new pads in a day.
You have the best toys😂
Save that door handle and locking mechanism. Because a lock Smith might be able to fix the broken piece for cheap. Then you'll have a spare.
Nice door upgrades! Have you ever thought of making the floor portion right outside of your door a heavy duty grate? Might help any snow build up and you can wipe your feet off easy.
mate just work out a way to bolt the strip on the bottom of the ski thingie or just get a strip of steel it will do same thing only reason they use carbide is for where you won't be doing those speeds hope this helps if you read it that is Cheers
Put a heated mat on the outside of that door incase you’re snowed in with a switch you can turn on to melt the ice to free the door
Oh, btw, stellar job on the threshold! I had to run a frig water line across my kitchen threshold and used that one. I threaded it through that rubber seal and it works great!
Looking forward to seeing your next adventure! Just found your channel and it looks really great.
I think you should have put a good size bead of silicone down under the thresh hold so that water cant get in when the snow or ice tried to melt.
Seal up between the floor boards on the porch, maybe it will help keep some of the junk away from the door.
Hey Tim, you need some ice skates and a tutu 😂 seriously I'm looking forward to the Road trip. Stay safe
It is truly amazing all the advise you get from the comments. :). Great video as always.
Blessings for a safe trip!
Dude? I've been watching your travels and camper trips. And am concerned that one day your truck will not start during freezing temperatures past -40. I believe they make this, although I'm not 100% sure. It, resembles a mud tray or pan that protects your engine block and keeps it warm enough to restart it in the morning. You're a resourceful person, so I'm sure you can find out. Also this assembly can protect against wind's that acced sub freezing temperatures because driving with the force of the wind or against can freeze your block, sensitive hoses and wires that don't act right in those temperatures. Id like to hear back from you, if something like that does exist? Because you make camper camping safe again. And we like seeing your travels.
Might I suggest installing a thin piece of plastic or vinyl on the bottom of your door so you don’t end up tearing your new threshold.
Also, as a long time mechanic/technician, I would be weary to pay for someone to work on your truck if it’s something you could probably do just because “you want it done right”. From my experience, the majority of mechanics are either not as competent as you may think they are or are generally not honest. Just my 2 cents. Happy trucking 🤘🏼
Check the axle vent. If it's plugged, seals will leak. If it is plugged, clean the brakes and check for leaks after driving it.
Recently found this channel and i'm absolutely loving the content!
❤❤WOW u are the (jack) Timmy of all trades. Not sure there isn't anything u can't fix or jerry rig.As always we both sat here and watched the whole video. Can't wait to go on the trip...👏🥰💜❣️💙
That door threshold has been calling your name, for quite some time now! Lol
Very well done Timmy 👏!! You're a carpenter now!! 😊!! Yes it's tight but you want it that way so the bottom of the door makes a good seal on the rubber gasket. Happy trails 👣 my friend!!! Please be careful on your trip up north!!! Its good you are making thorough preparations!!! You should do well, and I will be a happy viewer excited to see your upcoming videos!!!😊!!!
LIKE A GLOVE BABY 🧤👶
You should put silicone on the bottom of the threshold before you install it. Makes a better seal against the water.
Frozen Tundra sweet pad brother 🤙
I would place a small skegg on the snowboard, just enough to grab a small amount of traction
Excited for your next adventure x
You may need to fix that door tread into the floor as it looks like it has moved and will continue to move in every time you close the door. Let's see what happens.
My cat, Ninja, couldn't get enough of this video!😂 Good luck on the Arctic journey.👍😎🇨🇦❄🔥
yeah i cant wait awesome job.
Maybe break the sharp edge of the new cut on your door so as not to wear out the rubber threshold? Enjoy your channel! Lived in Anchorage from 1960 to 1965 as a kid.
Have you thought about adding washers to the wooden ski pole? Maybe that will reinforce the holes that are close to the bottom?🤷
Best advice for that door lock assembly, buy another one NOW... that way when the other fails, you have a backup on hand without spending more for it later. ;)
should definitely put a motor on that snow bike
Be sure to get some diesel anti-gel additive. Add it to every fill-up.
Time to put a short skeg on that snowboard.
Glad you fixed the door issue.✔️ Snow machine problem ✔️ snow ski bike✔️
Look forward to seeing the trip videos.
A friendly reminder, measure once, cut twice 😉👍🏽
Think about poly urethane coating the bottom of the door to retardant moisture damage and swelling?
have a scull every time he says "like a glove"
Good job Tim. I hope "Tim" is OK...you seem more like a Tim than a Timmy. No more snow in there when you get to where you are going.
Cut a slot into the deck of the snowboard and install an ice skate blade as a skeg
A snow bike? WTF, Timmy! I do not accept this reality! there is no such thing as a snow bike, damnit!
On your snoboard/ front ski maybe you can screw a strip of plastic, delrin, aluminum for a skag.
Nice work 👍👍
Damn Tim put a sled behind the blower and enter the Iditarod
Ever consider replacing the deck with expanded metal? Most of the snow /ice will fall through.
Maybe they sell battery operated heated door mat for outside porch entrance to your truck home??? May help with accumulation when you travel.
Hi. Yes lots nice jobs done and dusted Timmy
You can get aluminum bluing that will make the aluminum turn black!
If it's real aluminum and not just plastic with aluminum paint.
Finally a new windshield
Hats off for the good job done on the threshold.
hi I know You might already know this but I think you should install door handles on both sides to pull the door from in and out, that way it won't affect door locks while there's snow on the porch, just saying, also try to raise the seat on bike, it makes easier to paddle.
You are innovative! Great work on making the modifications. i hope you can fix your truck up the safest way and have the means to do it soon! stay safe out there.
😢Hi Timmy. Watched your Arctic adventure. Hope you make it to the water and dip your toes in. I’ve been in construction about 45 years. Finish carpentry was something I liked to do most, so thresholds were part of my projects and jobs. You made the job easy by cutting straight across on the one side but left both sides open to water, ice and snow. To prevent condensation and water staying inside the threshold, get expanding foam spray and make sure you close the space all across the inside with it. Use 2 small blocks to finish each end. FYI: In the hotter times, the aluminum will expand. Cut about an eighth of an inch or a bit more and let the threshold just drop in place and wiggle. You will be using silicone to fill the edges anyway. Your door may jam and you will be pounding the threshold back down. Do it while it’s cold. Take the extra off now. Good luck on reaching Arctic Ocean this time.
I see your cabin looks done. Can you do a show off once done? Love to see it better. You worked so hard and long on it.
yup, still have to finish the entire inside haha
@@TruckHouseLife aww what little bit I seen it’s looking awesome! Be careful on your next adventure. Your channel is never boring. Always something happening😜 I don’t watch alot of regular TV, I watch people like you and many others. Regular tv has gotten so offensive and disgusting, I would rather watch UA-camrs. So thank you for all your hard work in making these. I will probably never get to come to Alaska, so seeing people who live there lets me see it safely😜. Also been watching Alaska Cabin Adventure. Love his to. This Alaskan Life was my first. Beautiful country❤️
Get some teflon spray for the snowmobile ski. It’ll help tons
"It's tight but it's in." 😅
I use WD-40 on my car door jams and trunk surround etc. It prevents freezing shut.
