I learned this from firefighters. They do it in -50 sweatier. They put antifreeze in a spray bottle and spray it on the hydrant threads before they attach the hoses. It keeps the hoses from sticking to the hydrant threads. Works great for metal door jambs, metal doors, and garage doors.
3” is the magic number for the bottom of the door to the deck in all situations. Also, a Dutch style door is nice for the heavier snowfalls. It allows the top half to open enough for to climb out in case of an emergency. The last thing you want is to wake up in the middle of the night to your camper on fire just to find out your doors frozen shut on you.
Nice job on the door Timmy. Advice from an old school carpenter. Leave your door on the hinges and scribe the 11/4” on the bottom, then take it off and cut the bottom. This helps if the floor and door bottom aren’t even. You can even make your cut on a little bevel. Had to do this all the time before pre-hung doors. Blessings
Almost 52 year old cop here. Tim you are inspiring this old dog to learn new tricks. You have the spirit of an old school explorer who understands its never about the destination, its all about the journey. Can't wait to see you drive to the Arctic Ocean, put up your feet up by the fire, enjoy a home cooked meal and chill. I think Lewis & Clark would have enjoyed hanging with you!
Watching the vintage Ford Powerstroke forge through the frozen tundra makes me proud. My '97 leads a sheltered life compared to the extreme tests you subject yours to. The 7.3L is a wonderful power plant! Great choice! Keep on trucking!
It seems like Tim is a good carpenter, he adjusts his door and he builds his own home and does a really good job at both. I look at what he has done to expand his home and it is amazingly well done.
Always checking on your next adventure. The house build, the trips in the truck, kayaking and snow sledding. Adventures that you share with us. Actually sharing your life with us. Thank you!
Great to hear that you took the advice from the community and not cold start the engine anymore. As a mechanic myself I always winced a bit at every start of the engine. Awesome content as always
Awesome video as always Timmy. Can't wait to watch your next epic adventure to the Arctic ocean. Thanks for letting us ride along with you on your adventures.
Oh, btw, stellar job on the threshold! I had to run a frig water line across my kitchen threshold and used that one. I threaded it through that rubber seal and it works great!
-2 , ouch from San Antonio, Texas . Coldest place I’ve ever been was up in the mountains of Germany during a military exercise called REFORGER. It was hitting -40 plus even lower with the windchill factor. Sleeping inside of a GP Small tent with a bunch of soldiers while out Yukon stove was cherry hot & the Section Chief toasting his bread on it , priceless.
Love all the adventures. I own a 96 F250 Powerstroke and I’m looking forward to you making an extensive video on your mods. About your snow bike, try attaching skate board rails to the bottom of the snow board.
I would put a blade sweep seal on the underside of the door, it will provide double protection with the threshold seal, to prevent water from blowing up underneath, it’s a matter of choice.
That arctic series appeared on home screen over Christmas break and it was awesome! Really enjoyed the house build as well! Great stuff, really cool to follow along.
Just watched you customize ski on your Snow bike I have always loved fixing and customizing things making them better than they were thinking you might have been able to drill holes in that original ski the length and found a small piece of aluminum v-shaped rail smooth rivets are nuts with round smooth heads same as that carbide run I sleded for many years never thought much of that carbide rail on snowmobile skis always burning up and twisting always thought they did more work when I was crossing roads then flying through snow what is poor design on that front ski remind me of that song slip sliding away anyway got to get back to work myself thanks for your time Timmy God bless.
Nice door upgrades! Have you ever thought of making the floor portion right outside of your door a heavy duty grate? Might help any snow build up and you can wipe your feet off easy.
Very well done Timmy 👏!! You're a carpenter now!! 😊!! Yes it's tight but you want it that way so the bottom of the door makes a good seal on the rubber gasket. Happy trails 👣 my friend!!! Please be careful on your trip up north!!! Its good you are making thorough preparations!!! You should do well, and I will be a happy viewer excited to see your upcoming videos!!!😊!!!
You are innovative! Great work on making the modifications. i hope you can fix your truck up the safest way and have the means to do it soon! stay safe out there.
Never in a million years did i think id be sitting here watching someone replace a door handle mechanism/latch especially on the back of an old 7.3 yet here we are and i love it. 😂 keep it up tim i just watched the newest vid and came back to re watch this guy now im inpatiently waiting for a new vid😂😂
❤❤WOW u are the (jack) Timmy of all trades. Not sure there isn't anything u can't fix or jerry rig.As always we both sat here and watched the whole video. Can't wait to go on the trip...👏🥰💜❣️💙
For the track on your sled ramp, maybe get a couple heavy duty hinges, bolt them for a decent fit at the mid point and cut the belt in half. Then, to store, pull the hinge pins, slide the track wherever it fits, then to use, assemble the ramp, place the lower half, align the hinges and reinstall your pins
@@GotrekGurninsson Might be cool to build a folding jump, then set it up a few yards away and Evil Knievel the sled right onto the trailer. That'd be totally sweet and I'd pay to see that.
Best advice for that door lock assembly, buy another one NOW... that way when the other fails, you have a backup on hand without spending more for it later. ;)
You have the skill of a Zamboni driver wheeling that Snowblower! Nice work shaving that door . My Hat goes off you for going for round Two on your arctic adventure! #wulffdendad
You should add a rubber strip across the outer front of the door. It would keep snow and ice from building up in the gap at the bottom of the door & thurshold.
Dude? I've been watching your travels and camper trips. And am concerned that one day your truck will not start during freezing temperatures past -40. I believe they make this, although I'm not 100% sure. It, resembles a mud tray or pan that protects your engine block and keeps it warm enough to restart it in the morning. You're a resourceful person, so I'm sure you can find out. Also this assembly can protect against wind's that acced sub freezing temperatures because driving with the force of the wind or against can freeze your block, sensitive hoses and wires that don't act right in those temperatures. Id like to hear back from you, if something like that does exist? Because you make camper camping safe again. And we like seeing your travels.
Timmy, keep the extra snow machine tracks and keep them with you in case you get stuck somewhere in the truck or snow machine, throw that down for traction. Just a thought.
1:53 in and already hype for new windshield (although if you can get the camera to stop focusing on the window regardless of what's there that'll make the biggest difference)
hi I know You might already know this but I think you should install door handles on both sides to pull the door from in and out, that way it won't affect door locks while there's snow on the porch, just saying, also try to raise the seat on bike, it makes easier to paddle.
Man I can imagine what it’s like trying to work on something outside and it -2 degrees… trying to use a saw or anything like that…you make some awesome videos…thanks buddy
You should get a flat bead trailer with a fold down ramp so your center of gravity isn’t so high, plus Timmy the shit out if it with boxes, bigger snow tires, etc.

Timmy, your life is insanely active and accomplished. So much to be proud of. You're an inspiration to all the men in the world.
Thank you:)
+1
He's a huge inspiration. I think part of it is he just comes across as every man. Nothing special just somebody who wants a different life.

I often wondered why he didn’t switch to that style of door.
Man that truck you have id take that truck over any other vehicle in the world you have the best set up and to top that off you built it yourself
Yeah its a pretty cool thing except dor it being very old.

You may want to water proof seal that fresh wood cut area on the bottom of the door

Awesome 🤙
Agreed!
The threshold is a great addition. One suggestion, turn it so the screws are inside the camper. Enjoy the content.

Thanks for the entertainment. I'm still sober in south Dakota
Please someone bring Twinkie the bird another parakeet, so she's not lonely. Thank you. 🐦💌💞💕
Always feels good to wrap up a bunch of small projects. Will be so nice not to fight the ice at the door & no more snow inside, nice job.
Oh, btw, stellar job on the threshold! I had to run a frig water line across my kitchen threshold and used that one. I threaded it through that rubber seal and it works great!
Use silicone spray on the rubber threshold so the door wont freeze to it. It works great on the cab door seals as well.

I love your videos. Watching you do all this interesting stuff tells me I'm not doing enough😂
Check the axle vent. If it's plugged, seals will leak. If it is plugged, clean the brakes and check for leaks after driving it.
I'm so excited you're returning to the Artic. Can't wait!!!!
A remote start for the truck would make cold mornings easier.
Can’t wait to see your up and coming adventures Timmy. Love the van life vlogs. Keep safe and see you in your next video bro. 💯🤙🏻🔥

Cut a slot into the deck of the snowboard and install an ice skate blade as a skeg

On your snoboard/ front ski maybe you can screw a strip of plastic, delrin, aluminum for a skag.

Good job Tim. I hope "Tim" is OK...you seem more like a Tim than a Timmy. No more snow in there when you get to where you are going.
End grain absorbs the most water. You could cut the door a little shorter and glue and screw 1x to the bottom. Either way seal the wood!!!
You are innovative! Great work on making the modifications. i hope you can fix your truck up the safest way and have the means to do it soon! stay safe out there.

A door sweep would help to keep some of the cold out also.
Oh, right on yeah, we did snow biking years ago back here in Minnesota! Forgot all about the old snow bike
Dang it’s 2 days later and I’m seeing this and now I want an artic travel update 😅😅😅
Save that door handle and locking mechanism. Because a lock Smith might be able to fix the broken piece for cheap. Then you'll have a spare.

Dude honestly you got me thinking about trying to build a diy camper!
Put a heated mat on the outside of that door incase you’re snowed in with a switch you can turn on to melt the ice to free the door
That door threshold has been calling your name, for quite some time now! Lol
Seal up between the floor boards on the porch, maybe it will help keep some of the junk away from the door.
Hats off for the good job done on the threshold.
Sorry to hear you lost your parakeet. I lot mine about two years ago, loved those little fellas

have a scull every time he says "like a glove"

Glad you fixed the door issue.✔️ Snow machine problem ✔️ snow ski bike✔️
Hey Tim, you need some ice skates and a tutu 😂 seriously I'm looking forward to the Road trip. Stay safe
I would place a small skegg on the snowboard, just enough to grab a small amount of traction
Be sure to get some diesel anti-gel additive. Add it to every fill-up.
Same player shoot again ! Go for it Timmy 💪
Can't wait fir your new adventure Timmy. Try Not to fall into your camper van now ! 😊
My cat, Ninja, couldn't get enough of this video!😂 Good luck on the Arctic journey.👍😎🇨🇦❄🔥
You should put silicone on the bottom of the threshold before you install it. Makes a better seal against the water.
I think you should have put a good size bead of silicone down under the thresh hold so that water cant get in when the snow or ice tried to melt.
Hey Timmy, can't wait for the new uploads, I have people to share them with! Godspeed!
Got my family watching his show too!
If you enclose your porch for the winter no problem opening door just have to redo stairs .
I was thinking similar. Enclose it with light weight plexiglass or something?
@@fergusb2440 light weight plexi wont workatrips are too bumpy will break also fragile in the cold . Try lexan good in heat and cold .

Getting ready for some coffee! Blessings to you Timmy! ✝️☕️
Moment of truth...he says...like a.......glove.....i said.... good neighbor.....state farm IS THERE!!!!! 😂😂😂
I still love the 'bike', great idea!
Finally now we can see out the front without the camera focusing on the huge windshield crack

Nice! Can't wait!
You can get aluminum bluing that will make the aluminum turn black!

Timmy, you should talk to Clint and have him get you a track for your ramp from AK snowmachine salvage. Todd has 1" used tracks for ramps.
I use WD-40 on my car door jams and trunk surround etc. It prevents freezing shut.
