I’m just getting around to playing zodiacage and lemme tell ya Fuzz, your a whole lot easier to follow than the guide I would have to read from back in the day. THANKS
I was in my 40s? I started by giving my healer Haste, equipped everyone with a Black Belt and put Bubble on each of my characters. Then I stood in the back and let my lead use Gil Toss to do 10,000 damage each. My other 2 characters focused on Curaja and Esuna. All it took was about 13 hits and he was done for.
@Ze TheGame I wasn't too much of a completionist but there's this part where you need a certain amount of espers in order to go further into Henne Mines. My only esper left is Ultima...dreading it because of the crystal.
I had black belt and two on constant curaja duty. Mainly my monk and white mage. My knight was the tank and just wailing away on it. Used quickening towards end to bring him to an end. I was lvl 42 or so
I was able to kill it at 40 lvl. At 40, it's a lot of luck. I started with shell/protect/haste on my entire party (active and alts). I had to employ a quickening chain, let the party fight till it died, bring in my alts, another quickening chain, than I hi-ethered, a character and got off a second quickening chain with the alts. It took me about 4 tries.
Dude, my wife and I used your video to get this esper and it worked really well. It was epic! Still had Fran left after the battle. Thanks for the video man!
Fuzz, Fuzz, Fuzz....This fight right here was by far the hardest in the walkthrough so far. After about 7 tries, I was FINALLY able to take it down! Thank you so much for the guide on this battle. It would of been a nightmare tryingt to figure it out in words online! Looking forward to now being able to continue the walkthrough!
Mate, this video saved me a major headache. I hate switch puzzles with a passion, and that blob of a right bastard was way too hard for me, thanks so much for your help.
Bubble doubles the passive sap speed in this fight. So its actually easier if you dont bubble and instead use protect+shell and keep regen on everyone.
I did it at level 39!!! I had three mages: Vaan - Archer/Red Mage Ashe - Monk/Black Penelo - White/Time ALL THREE have DRAIN! Use that as “main damage” but also to counteract the sap plus damage. Then use penelo to haste everyone. Use Vaan when needed as support to the support. Regen/Haste/Drain are going to be your best friends It takes FOREVER. But SLOWLY you will do it!
Thank you for making this guide! I already had a plan for the fight, but I was clueless on how to actually get to him. Thanks to you I now have a fancy new Esper in my ever growing collection.
Just did this at the exact same level and I will say that the Black Belt is a necessity! My first attempt, I had only two belts and the end result was: I almost got the Esper, once it reached near 1% HP it disabled my characters who were being used and I was forced to watch my last three characters die almost slowly by the sapping.
Your directions on how to work the sluice gates was vaguely mentioned in the letter found in that apartment with that Seeq in Lowtown. I guess they could’ve made it easier to understand.
I always hated doing this one. So much effort for just a Esper. then you need to do puzzle #2 for a fragment to get another Esper sheesh. I think they put this in there just to mess with everyone.
Cúchulainn is a dangerous boss on low levels/low HP. If you want to even come close to him make sure you learned curaja, esunaga, and haste. Make sure to equip characters with anti disable accessory, better a ribbon. Set gambit for each character 1. Ally, any HP
Jesus christ. I did it. I can't believe I forgot about how to properly chain mist attacks in this game. It's been like...8 or 9 years since I last attempted playing haha.
One thing that may help (I've never yet seen anyone do this but) is using regen and kkeping it active. as soon as I got regen, I had it on constantly. It "regen"erates hit points and dispells HP sap.
Fuzz, thanks for that! I tried your method, and it worked sort of . . . I wasn’t as successful as you were with the Quickenings . . . part of that was because I screwed up when two of my party members died at the same time, and instead of bringing one in, I brought in my last two party members (I had also had one die previously). So when the Quickenings were finished, Cuchulainn was still at half heath! I thought, no way I am going to beat him. At that point I was left with Penelo (White Mage/Time Battle Mage), Fran (Archer/Machinist) and, Basch (Knight/Foebreaker). I gave Basch a bottle of Bacchus’s Wine and he went to town. It took three bottles (he died twice). I also set Fran and Penelo to us Cura at 80% health. Things were going good, then Penelo died, and I thought for sure I’d lost, but just then, at almost the same time, Cuchulainn went down! So ended up winning in the end. Thanks again.
this is one mean mother not because of its ability but the hp sap field.. I beat it at lvl 40's with the guys, all license augments except brawler and gill toss technique.. lemme tell you, zodiac spear is a MUST to beat him just before going to phon coast.. pheasant netsuke is also a must (low steal from Mu in Feywood) with 3 black belts.. and also equipments to null slow.. the key is micro management and changing equipments when you read that he's about to cast slogwa / disablega/ etc.. ignore immobilize since it won't affect you anyways.. 1 character is the tank to kill those annoying foobars and injure choo-choo until he's critical/damage from ZS become smaller than usual, 2 characters to support (cast cura, esuna to party, and bravery to tank etc) and to also attack when there's a chance. after choo is critical and ZS do little damage use gil toss.. oh yeah spare a bit like maybe 50k max.. I think i used up that amount but it's worth it heheh edit: if u think one character is low on HP immediately switch to pheasant netsuke and throw high potion.. you can buy and stock up on high potions.. if you have all 3 potion lores augments you will heal 900hp in an instant.. after that switch back to black belt..
This one was tough in the original too. Chaos, is hard because you can't use attack. Zodiark though takes the cake for being the toughest to take down.
Starting out the gate with Darkja and those palings the esper throws up sporadically. Ultima is an honorable mention. Her Holyja with the Reverse side effect.
For real man, I recently got to this in the game finally, and wandered around looking for the Esper. Fuzz came through with the answer! P.S. FF, you’re guides are the best
I really do wish I used Quickenings more. You inspire me to finally try. Man cuchulain, handsome warrior guy turned to fat poison guy in the Matsuno-verse. lol.
I like starting with Bubblebelts and right before he cast disable just switch to blackbelts to become immune. Healer has to be doing Curaja at like 60-70% HP
I killed Cúchulainn when I was a level 38 with very basic weapons and armor ( i was doing a challenge where i'd complete the game using only one job ) i had a knight, blackmage, whitemage. I equipped black belt for my entire team, and i was able to lower Cúchulainn's health to critical, before i used my quickenings which i reached a 17 combo ( Blackmage kept spamming Bio ) ( Whitemage kept spamming Cura ) ( Knight was attacking with decoy equipped ) i used 2 Elixers and 4 Ethers.
all i can say about this fight is that you need ribbons or black belts to stop disable and its a very good idea to get the bubble spell for this fight. i did none of those things and died at least 4 or 5 times
Thanks for the help I would not have cared to mess with those switches without your help! And thanks for the Blackbelt suggestion. He was not that bad thanks to Black belt and being higher lvl than you. I am 48-51 depending on character
I went after him at lvl 40 but I let him fight it out with Exodus. Holy cow Exodus kicked his tubby rear GOOD! Almost double the damage 9999x2 each comet strike. All I had to do was keep feeding Exodus X-Potions while keeping a bubble on my summoner (Using Exodus’s super heal when things got bad) and wait for the fight to end. I was honestly surprised the fight went as easy as it did using an Esper vs Esper. Added - Oh and as for the mob squads, Exodus killed them with one shot each. Also using Fire 3 also helped a bunch.
Man...what a difference the Black Belt accessory does in this fight...he beat me pretty badly without it, but when I wore it, I destroyed this cheap sob.
The only reason that this one is frustratingly difficult is because how garbage the map is. The whole thing would have been 10 times easier if the map updates possible paths every time we activate a gate. The slow unskippable cut scenes when pressing the gate controls just add so much to the frustration.
Here's how you kill him in 2 minutes: Equip 2 charcters with Seitengrat, Haste, shell and protect everyone except the lure character Send in lure to take the initial blast Swith to a steal gambit on 2 characters to steal his S item (forgot the name) Shear him (i didn't have scathe so i gotta get it) Blast away, dead before any immunity. I'm sorry but when you people say white knight /tank I don't get it because I have the original game not the remastered version but I'm only missing 3 more espers

Ahh looking at the damage that does seem to be the case. Always target the bosses with quickenings, getting a good concurrence will smash everything with AoE
Appparently second times the charm, i just had to beat him without killing all three of my first three characters till near the end, and then, i used a quickening on him with my last three and he was gonezo
Is it sad that I just now tried to fight him at large 70s to early 80s? I actually had a little trouble because I forgot to put black belts on before the fight so when i got disabled, I put black belts on to prevent it again
I did it I defeated the cukulukluim wateva it's name is yay. Cheers and thanks fuzz finger. I just used my normal attacks and mist commands along with healing esunas and haste. I'm glad I stocked up on accessories :)
A Strategy I used to defeat him in the 30's without quickenings. I had up to Fira/Blizzara/Thundara level magic, no dispel. No quickenings, no espers. I did take the time to get Seitengrat from the invisible chest, through RNG manipulation. Check out this creator's video on that, it's an easy to follow walkthrough on how to get it 100% of the time. (My very first time trying to get it, it took me two tries ~30 minutes) Well worth it for the highest atk stat weapon in the game. That range too :o. But, I used a set of three people. One was Redmage/Bushi, One was White Mage/Black Mage and the last was Archer/Time Mage. The archer was using Seitengrat with Berserk Cuffs. So they just stay still and attack. (You can further increase this effect with Brave status, but I found it not to be needed as I melted him in literally 30 seconds.) The Red Mage was using melee/Fira. Their role was to play tank and get rid of Slimes. The White Mage was doing no attacking, instead constantly casting Cura and dropping Phoenix Downs if needed. (I didn't need any.) What's important, is that the White Mage has Black Belt and Esuna, for if your party gets disabled. They're your "failsafe" so you don't get BS'd out of a victory due to a status effect :P. When you go to the battle, the Archer will stay still and fire. The Redmage will run to the boss to melee. You place the white mage right between them, forming a line. You'll find that your cura's radius is just big enough to hit both of your party members, while your White Mage is also in range to cast offensive magicks/attack if they have time to do so. But all I did, was walk my White Mage between the other two and set down my controller. He was dead in under a minute. Now, I don't have super trial mode or bazaar stuff. I do think I had unlocked up to Diamond-level armor and other than Seitengrat, my highest weapon was like 81 attack or something like that.
The important thing about this strategy was to mitigate my enemies spells. Because the only way they could hit everyone was by targetting the white mage in the middle and if that happened, i would just move a little bit out of formation and the radius would only be big enough to hit the white mage. But I found he usually only targets the Melee attacker 99% of the time, so I was able to just set my controller down. EDIT: An important note is that while I've had complications fighting him, I have never lost using this strategy.
I don't think this message will ever gonna be seen, but thank you so much for all these amazing guides. I'm look forward for other guides from other games as well. I'm attempting this Esper at lv 63, so I think it's gonna be easy
Rind of Renewal it's what your looking for, gives you +6 defense +5 Magick defense and gives you regen pretty awesome for just one accessory, you can get it for completing the airship side quest or poach it from the Deadly Nightshade in the Feywood.
@@alexcruz8024 Eh, it's embarrassing, .. it's a new game + lvl 90 sooo... ..at least now I know levels really don't make much of a difference, good game this! 😅👍 Keeps you on your toes!! 😡 😉
Na primeira tentativa falhei, após ver seu video e seguir o mesmo procedimento de batalha que você usou ganhei de primeira porem fiz uso de 3 elixir's e 3 Hi-Ether para derrota-lo mais rápido! Abraço do Brasil!!
I'm Amazed you did this fight in your late 30's I'm having trouble fighting this guy in early to mid 40's
Loool. Nice joke
@@goncalomiguel1384 He's talking about levels bro >
Can confirm, I'm playing the OG PS2 version and I barely won on my early 50s
I fought him at 15
Most of the espers are easier if you get Zeromus and abuse it. I think I beat Cuchulainn very early on.
I’m just getting around to playing zodiacage and lemme tell ya Fuzz, your a whole lot easier to follow than the guide I would have to read from back in the day. THANKS
haha. I used to print them off of Gamefaqs...spent a fortune on ink!

Easy way to fight him is by casting reverse on yoursefl, the Sap then will heal you continuosly while you beat his ass
Thanks for the tip because everybody starts using sap real fast. Even worse when they do sap+disease

Equip black belt on your white mage setup gambits to counter sap with regen. GG wp

doesn't work for me! tried it and HP still goes down...
It isn't the sap status. It's a sap field, which is a boss presence effect. As long as he is alive, your hp will rapidly drop.
I’ve been calling him “cue-choo-lain” this whole time
Mad thanks to you I just got here and won might have took me 12 years but better then never

My lvl was so high that the esper never managed to use any special attacks 😂
all i can say about this fight is that you need ribbons or black belts to stop disable and its a very good idea to get the bubble spell for this fight. i did none of those things and died at least 4 or 5 times
I just want to know...
How would ANYONE FIGURE THIS OUT, without a guide? :/
It's even worse in French. They forgot to write the numbers..xD Just generic names xD
Excellent guide! Navigating the waterways is awful but you made it easy.
Scathe coupled with berserk works great
Thanks for the help I would not have cared to mess with those switches without your help! And thanks for the Blackbelt suggestion. He was not that bad thanks to Black belt and being higher lvl than you. I am 48-51 depending on character
Thanks a lot Fuzz. Love your gaming knowledge and videos.
Thanks John, glad this helps!
I went after him at lvl 40 but I let him fight it out with Exodus. Holy cow Exodus kicked his tubby rear GOOD! Almost double the damage 9999x2 each comet strike. The only reason that this one is frustratingly difficult is because how garbage the map is. The whole thing would have been 10 times easier if the map updates possible paths every time we activate a gate.
The slow unskippable cut scenes when pressing the gate controls just add so much to the frustration.
Here's how you kill him in 2 minutes: Equip 2 charcters with Seitengrat, Haste, shell and protect everyone except the lure character
Send in lure to take the initial blast
Swith to a steal gambit on 2 characters to steal his S item (forgot the name)
Shear him (i didn't have scathe so i gotta get it)
Blast away, dead before any immunity.
Maybe i got lucky but it was like 2 minutes to victory 👍
ot helps too if one of your players goes berserk with a lethal weapon chops the health meter down alot
I just got him just now and my team is level 60 difficult but easy peasy just do a bunch of quickenings and you'll be fine.
Very entertaining and exciting Fuzz👏👍😃
Thanks Finn.
Thank you! ✨
Hey Fuzz. What was the highest quickening chain you've ever done? Mine was 19.
Bro this helped a lot nice vid.
I've found this boss after obtaining the sluice key I found in a previous hunt call the white moouse in waterway area beneath rabanastre. But the big fat boss and his status effects are way too hard to dodge. Anyone out there got advice for me.
I know this video is old, but his name is pronounced (Coo-cul-in). Amazing video tho, huge help.
Thanks dude :)
My God he was a pain it took forever to put him down
I tried at level 30 and almost had the boss with strong fire spells and quickenings but died, I got high chains but didn’t take into account that it’s better in try and chain with the group using only one persons quickenings at a time.
Did all that got to boss, too underleveled exited waterways. Couldn't get to esper afterwards. Did it reset??
I'm sorry but when you people say white knight /tank I don't get it because I have the original game not the remastered version but I'm only missing 3 more espers
Don't worry about it . It's just something they added in different versions of ff12 . (Tza and IZJ)
Well until i get this Esper, than i need to figure out where to put it
I still playing ff12 until now
This helped!!! Thank you
...mmmhh...💍
Definitely a tough fight indeed!
How does quickening attacks work? How the hell do you chain it like that where like 10 plus hits? I don’t remember the game explaining it. Or I must have missed it.
do keep in mind you need the sluice gate key
Before doing this

That fact should be added into the description.
I was under the impression quickenings are single target, and only the concurrence is AOE...?
Ahh looking at the damage that does seem to be the case. Always target the bosses with quickenings, getting a good concurrence will smash everything with AoE

1 second lower ..I had to go back a bit! 😛

Are the conditions of fighting and obtaining and finding locations of espers the same for PS2 as they are on the PS4 version.
Oh nevermind killed it in 3 seconds with 2 level 88 and a lvl 99. And 3 seitengrat, reddas was in party too at level 98

EDIT: An important note is that while I've had complications fighting him, I have never lost using this strategy.

is there such a belt accessory to auto gain HP?
Rind of Renewal it's what your looking for, gives you +6 defense +5 Magick defense and gives you regen pretty awesome for just one accessory, you can get it for completing the airship side quest or poach it from the Deadly Nightshade in the Feywood.
