I'm a huge fan of the new intro/outro. Really enjoy the picking up of the game from the shelf and returning it at the end. It also makes the line "join me at the table" make more sense, since we're walking over to it. Keep up the good work!
I was fatigued after so much debate from you previous update(s) for the changes you were considering. But having seen this vid, I’m fully on board with all of them. This does feel more like a friend teaching me a game, than a creator being sponsored by a publisher to teach their product. I like it. Keep it up!
Hi! Again, I really like the new format! I have to say I understand what you said about some people feeling the intro is too much in the sense of camera movement, though I don't mind it, but the concept of getting the game from the shelf and returning it in the end feels so right. Also, I just noticed, again only after you said it, that you indeed mention subscribing, liking, etc., so a big thumbs up for not overdoing it and for these welcomed changes! 👍 I hope you are going to include more of the actual playing videos like in times past, after all, that's why I started watching your show many years ago 😁. Good luck and keep up the good work!
Was on board for the changes as you know what you're doing. After Quacks and this video, I feel that the changes make the lessons even friendlier than before. As someone else commented, it's like a friend telling you how to play a game. Keep up the awesome work, Rodney!
I like the strategy tips at 6:00! Don't know if that's new, but it's great! Many times it's not enough to know how to play a game in order to truly enjoy it, so it would be awesome to have little bits of advice thrown around here and there!
It's a fine balance, if I think the tip might help clarify the purpose of a rule, I try to include it, but otherwise, I don't want to make the video any longer than it has to be, so I tend to leave anything not essential to learning out.
THIS is how games should be explained! I just found your channel, but I'm Liking and Subscribing! Every Tuesday night my kids and I get on Zoom from three different states and I keep wanting them to try new games on Board Game Arena. BGA just got this one and I think, thanks to how well you explained everything, they're gonna LOVE this game! THANKS!
I really like this new format! Walking around your home (studio) and grabbing the game gives the video such a friendly, personal feel. You're like the Mr. Rogers of board games :P Also yay! Imhotep! And without the barcode showing this time!
Thanks for another great video, Rodney! Our family picked this game up in a Christmas sale, and we are excited to get it to the table. As always, I read the manual, but your video also helped. Happy new year!
FINALLY getting around to playing this, and with such a clear explanation, I can get right to it. I am already looking at the expansion. Who doesn't want a chariot race?!
The intro and outro are fine. While I notice your shirt since it was brought up I never really did in the past and I still wouldn't now. The plaid from before and the shirt in this video in no way detract from the professional nature of the show. The section of getting the game off the shelf and putting it back on is neat and I like it. Might need some polish, though. I think it might be just too close to you. The "Like & Subscribe" is perfect! I'm glad you didn't stick it at the beginning and where you place it and how it is done is seamless and feels natural. Good job!
Box flip - nailed it (first try obviously)! That looks like a fun game, I wasn't familiar with that one! I will have to check it out... thanks for the introduction. I have to say, I am loving the loss of the polo more than I thought I would. Your videos all of a sudden feel more like my friend Rodney teaching me a game instead of just Rodney Smith from Watch It Played.
Well done as always Rodney. It might be too early to say this, but I think I miss the polo. It helped set you apart from the other videos that are out there. Still, the more important thing is that your charm and personality are there as usual so I can't complain too much. Keep it up!
I love the super casual format. I don't know if the walk-around is entirely necessary, but I do love your redone basement, so I'm not against seeing it. Game looks pretty neat, as well. Guess I'll have to try it out.
Thank you once again for another great explanation of a really splendid board game. I had to get this game as well. You did it again Rodney and co. "Forced" me to buy a new game. 😉
The slower pan definitely helps with the motion sickness I mentioned on the last video, but the hand camera segment still feels a little much for my stomache - I don't even dislike the 'take the game off the shelf' concept for the intro, or putting it back on as an outro concept. I just hope you can find a way of doing it that doesn't make me feel queasy.
Hey Rodney, I like the intro very much and it does not bother me. My wife suggested to use a camera with the stabiliser to fix the "shakiness" that some people mention. Unless the one you're using is already stabilised :) Keep up the great work!
Awesome as always. Great new format and do they give out awards for box lid flipping? WOW.. haha.. A game I actually was trying to buy for a long time, and I bought it about a month ago. Great timing I guess. I'll be looking for that expansion, too. I hope to see a video for Raiders Of The North Sea.
Hi Rodney. I like the new intro and you explained clearly the reason for the new approach, but it seems some people aren't mad about the shaky cam. It does feel like you have to do some contortions to get that final (slightly blurry) shot of the table. Might I suggest that you still do your hand held opening at the bookshelf but rather than walk to the table just stay there until you are done. When you say "join me at the table" you could just do a hard cut to the next scene. I'm sure people will still get the idea.
As always great quality and great production. I do have a suggestion in my opinion. I think you'd be better served by a static camera and have you enter the screen to the Shelf and then showing up at different areas in your studio using the static camera but with continous dialogue. It will still give you that fresh look but not be as chaotic as moving around. And if you are determined on moving around, then you should do it at a distance with someone else at the camera, kind of like Mister Rogers from his old children show. Watch it played is still amazing either way of course!
This is one of my favorite games. It’s hilarious to sail a ship that you’re not on to a place that your opponents are on to where they absolutely don’t want to go.
Kinda late to this game.. I just played this for the first time today. My mom got so mad at me because I did this to her. She said “but you aren’t even there” and I said “so...”
I just recently found your channel - my kids are grown so just my wife and I to play board games. Is there a way to find your older videos so I can watch two player games?
Great video, Rodney! I checked the outro two times - you never break eye contact with the camera. How many takes did you need to blindly get the game back into its spot? Or was I fooled by brilliant trickery? Maybe Pep just outside the frame? A second game box? :)
Can you do a video on the Rick and Morty version of Risk? I bought it few days ago thinking it was like the original, but turns out there's extra steps 😭
@@matttrafton2725 Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for.

So I have to say after watching this and Quacks. Not a fan of the handheld selfie at the beginning. It's a little nauseating. I like the idea of trying something different for the opening, but for me, this isn't it. Still, love the work you're doing Rodney!
It's not going to be for everyone, but on the whole it seems to have been well received. I'll try to smooth it out a little as I get more practice with it.
No part of the rules refer to statues. Where are the statues? There are sites, but there is no statue. I do not understand how to apply the statue cards.
You'll find them shown here: ua-cam.com/video/KIr7BeF5jL0/v-deo.html (they are a type of card you can collect over the course of the game). At the end of the game, the more of them you have, the more they are worth.
"Erect glorious structures". Hehe. I'm a terrible adult. Excellent video as always! Question, is the selfie style intro something you're trying out or are you set on that being a thing now?
@@WatchItPlayed yes I like the way you memorize the instructions. Because it's like some one is ready the instructions why giving you visual representation. Also I'm very excited for the Rodney recommends or what ever you decide down that line.

Ah, I love that smile after another successful box lid flip.
A behind the scenes/blooper video is due :)
I paused it at the 0:38 mark to answer my phone. Rodney just waited patiently smiling at me :-)
Since there the polo isn't there anymore, the box flip could become the new thing

I’ve had this game for a while but never learned to play. Thanks for the video! And wow, Rodney’s dimples were something in the intro! ❤️👍🏽
