Cooking Up A Storm - Catamaran Galley Build Ep328
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 сер 2024
- From maximising storage space and making compromises this Catamaran Galley has finally taken shape. The appliance are going in, the weight saving foam core cabinetry has made the way for me to install a Corian solid Surface Kitchen Benchtop which will add that quality finish to the project. It wont be long before I am cooking up a storm on the water.

Can't believe we're at the wood working stage. :)) Stunning progress guys!
Cheers mate, we are living the change of pace.
Many talents being used to build a boat, greate work Ross.
The galley looks very nice.
Take care.
All the best.
It's really starting to look like a boat instead of a never ending project.
Gasp! You're not saying there comes time when a boat is not a never ending project. Surely not that.
There will be an end and then it will begin all over again I imagine.Rossco
Too true
❤ very beautiful kitchen well done my friend ❤
Excellent channel. Nice people, interesting build, good videography, and minimal music.
Thanks mate, I don't know about the nice people bit, cheers Rossco
That Galley's a Beauty mate! Remember to save the stove and sink cut outs, they make great cutting boards and can even be edge grooved with a router... 'Boat building: A series of mistakes that somehow still floats'...
Super nice galley there Ross!
Totally bespoke kitchen..Janet will love it.
you guys are doing a great job
Looks bloody good, Ross!
It looks fantastic. ✌️
Thank you! Cheers!
I think I would've added the 2" in at the sink joint with a couple small peices and kept the peice whole around that peninsula.
”My cavity is not big enough.” 😮
Brilliant work Rosco! 🇨🇦
Cheers Bill
Looks brilliant. Well done
Thanks mate.
Absolutely stunning as always. What can you two not accomplish? It would be very interesting if you had a video discussing how you started in the manufacturing business which obviously brought you to the skill level to build a boat. Keep up the great work and amazing videos.
Thanks so much for your comment, I may do a back story vid one day,Ross
Galley looking good there mate.
That galley looks very good. Job well done like al the rest!!
Thanks mate, really appreciate your comment.
Ross the boat is looking amazing, your design of the galley and your choice of appliances is spot on. All of you and Janet's work is really starting to show all of the thought and hard work you've both put into this beautiful boat. I can hardly wait to see the boat when it's all done and ready to cast off for all the fantastic places you two will sail too. Cheers
I quite like the slither, looks very modern, shows off your awesome work..
Great to hear from you, thanks for watching.Rossco
Excellent work as usual . 😊😊😊
Thanks Eric , good man.
Can see many fine meals prepared in exotic places. Chowing down on the back deck as the sun goes down. Massive effort to get there, but will all be worth it when you and the misses get to enjoy it for years to come.
Cheers Gerald, counting the days mate.
You are a master craftsman. I think you could make anything you want, GREAT JOB so far. I wish I was closer, I'd love to see your boat up lose and personal, she is a beauty.
That looks fantastic Russ
Thanks Mike
Counters and cookers OH MY!!! Wow, it's getting close, in real time you have to be almost ready for water. Stunning guys, just stunning 😍😍
Good on you mate appreciate you taking the time to watch.Ross
yeah! That looks like a nice place to cook with a view, I love the way the wood's coming up too! Great to see it all coming together!
Nice real nice.
Ross amazing work 👏 the boat looks better with every episode 😊
looks great, I like the tas oak it gives some depth.
Everything on a boat takes longer.
To secure the M/W. Make a false base plate out of laminate. Cut 4 holes so M/W feet sit in. Trim off excess from front when M/W is where it lives. Put some screws thru tha falso base so it doesn’t move and put surround back on. Won’t move in any seaway. Just in case you haven’t done alteady. Lookin Great. Peter A
Ok I know this video is from stuff that happened a couple of ages ago, but you should just get some aluminum and do your own trim piece. I had to do it in my kitchen. It's way cheaper and you can customize it to fit the space.
Gallery is looking sharp!
That looks really good! good job!!!
Looking nice Rossco. Making more progress than I am.
Keep at it,
Kitchen looks great.
Cheers Ash, coming along.
Galley is very sweet!
I bought that microwave and loved it.
You've certainly come a long way from me watching you demould the hulls!! It's good to start seeing the finish product now isn't it? I'm really looking forward to your maiden voyage.
Galley looks boss. Well done. Janet is going to do well with it and I think she will like it. You’ve done good sir. Putting the business in the business. 💯 stay safe!
Cracking along at a fine old pace, bummer about the wrong size stainless trim hope the retailer resolved the situation for you promptly. Good work on the Corian.😀👍😀
Thanks Norman, they were hesitant but we were able to return it with some p
ersuasion.Looks great now.Cheers Rossco
Awesome galley Rossco👍
Thanks mate, looking good.
Looks good Ross
Thanks Kirk, appreciate you watching.Rossco
Looking schmik mate, you’ll put more weight in beer onboard than those little counter tops. Top effort in that heat Rossco🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🇦🇺🇦🇺
That's exactly what I said to Janet. More beet, less food.
Beautiful Ross ! She’s coming together nicely. Can’t wait to see her hit the water!
I think Cabosil (amorphous fumed silica) is relatively safe. Crystalline silica in Corean is more of a problem. Still wear a mask though. Great video again Ross, it's really coming together.
looks great
Hey Ross the galley is starting to look fabulous (of course!) I am currently renovating my catamaran that i built 30 years ago and have just bought a panasonic microwave combo much like yours, however the instructions on mine says for counter top use only 😢 would love to put it where my old gas oven was. Now I've seen yours i will double my efforts to find a way. Keep up the great work, you're almost there!
Thanks Nigel, I love the inbuilt look, check carefully whuch surround for your oven, I was able to replace the incorrect one but it fits perfectly now.Thanjs fir your comment ,appreciate it.Ross
Well done ,regards
Cheers Terry
You should put butcher block for the peninsula
just like a bought one!
Thanks mate
So glad to see you considering proper ventilation for your appliances! Too many install such things nicely concealed in cabinets without thought for the dissipation of waste heat. In my experience, this is especially true of refrigerators - people don't understand that the rejected heat from inside the fridge has to be dissipated into the air from the heat exchanger (usually on the back). Failure to provide proper ventilation means everything runs hotter than it should, results in increased energy costs and reduced reliability for the compressor etc.
Everything is looking awesome, but I wonder about the cooktop. I've mostly seen self leveling burners for a lot of boats to counter waves and wonder if the glass top would make it even worse with your pots and pans sliding even with smaller waves. That could be really bad if something was heated and slid off on one of you. Anyhow, looks great, love watching your episodes, fan from the first video.
I have a motorhome that welive in and travel in the US. Our corian countertops are actually held down with the use of a product called Liquid Nails here in the US and there are no screws. I suspect my coach is a little rougher on the corian than your great looking boat.
Hey. I’m a carpenter who has done some pretty insane cuts and I immediately saw a way to make the piece fit in one cut without having to make a filler piece. If you haven’t already, you probably have, ask me. I will lead you through this. It’s not so difficult but it takes a different look at. Haha. You did. Ok. If you want a lesson in how to for future cuts and possibly if you have another piece the same, get back to me.
Hey mate ,thanks for the comment, sadly it is already done, but, I could have done it differently granted, I was limited to the piece I had and should have put a piece in where the sink join was, appreciate you watching and your advice in any case.Rossco
@@LifeOnTheHulls Hi Rossco, thanks for the reply. I’ll just try to explain it for future cuts.
I believe that one piece could have been cut to fit by cutting a pivot angle at the window and sink edge. There appeared to be a lot of overhang and by making 2 cuts to angle the piece differently, you may have been able to adjust the piece on the round over enough to make it fit.
I’m not sure about how the pattern would line up on the sink cut edge, but I I think it could have passed the wife test.
Not sure if you see what I’m saying here, let me know.
Keep up the good work. I’m really impressed to see anyone build such a massive project with so few people and it looks great!!!
Schmidt happens Rossco. What goes around, comes surround!👍👍👍
It happens to the best if us. Once finished, the counter with induction stove and 3k microwave will look good.
Cheers Roland, all sorted, simple fuzzy night on the on line shop lead to all sorts of mayhem.Rossco
Ross, give us a tip when small debris gets stuck in the just sprayed gel coat?
I would be really worried to fall down those few steps right behind where you will be cooking, maybe add something to prevent falling down while you are in the galley space to wedge yourself in?
Incredible, as always!
Would it be cleaner/easier to rout a few parallel slots in the side and back of the cabinet, for ventilation, rather than fitting a metal grill of some sort?
A cleaner look and far easier to clean.
I know we are way behind the actual build but my OCD says the riser on top of the main counter should stop at the transition line on the bottom, where the straight starts to curve. Just my armchair quarterback .02
I reckon you should be proud of that mate . What did the skipper think ?
I would have put the "sliver" at the sink join...
"... lost me shit.."😂
Hello Rossco. You were quite chatty in this video. That's to be expected though. It must feel like a child opening presents on Christmas Morning. So much to see, so much to do, where do you start? The countertop and cabinetry look very good and definitely efficient. Have a great week and give my best to Janet! Jim Ttfn
I know it is way to late, but wouldn't it have been neater to have slid the large piece all the way to cover the end and used the sink cutout to fillin the open space against the bulkhead to the stbd? That way there would not have any fillin on the curved end?
We had the exact same issue with our microwave when we renovated our kitchen. Definitely frustrating.
Stuff like that drives me mad Doug.
Why not trim the microwave in with wood and return the stainless
I think it isn’t the corian countertops that’s going to be banned, it is the engineered stone that’s going to be banned.
I don’t comment very much, however I felt the need to tell you that the galley is looking very good, obviously there are some finishing touches to do. How did you work out the volume of your forward torpedo hull structure, I’m assuming this is to correct some hobby horsing.
Ross mate...just be aware that the tape patches on the timber doors/drawers will cause a fade patch that you will not be able to sand out. This message is probably already too late.
Onto it mate, have been removing them, retaping until all glued in.Still an evolving job.Never seems to end.
maybe install a 5v computer fan in the microwave cabinet for cooling, you are running usb wires to kitchen anyway?
That is a great idea , I am sure there will be sufficient ventilation as per the instruction for instal and I will have an extra vent in the floor of the cabinet for cross ventilation. Thanks Vernon.
I've heard the digitlal inverter microwave ovens are the ones to go for on a boat.
I do think they are heavy on the power.
you may need fittles and back splash?
I said it once, I want to say it again. "Ross cooking on the hulls" Help the men out there to start kooking. We'll done Ross. Keep it up.
Nice end result and the Micro suround(new right) looks nice 2.. its cumming 2 geather good!!
Thanks mate, got the right surround in the end after some argy bargy with the retailer.
Holly cow that a huge microwave oven. You can cook/ Nick a turkey in that. They do everything big in Oz..😢
Aren't you going to want your cook surfaces on a gimble? Won't they be splahing all over the place in rough seas?
We all make mistakes, but will Janet kill you over the mistake 🤣😂
All sorted, took some pretty aggressive dealing with the on line retailer to accept the wrong one back.Fortunately they came around and refunded me.
Sorry but this time I blame Janet. If only she hadn't told you to not stuff up. That's a jinx.
Ross don’t worry about having enough beer, just get yourself a tender like all the rich guys do. Like Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos, this will solve your problem with where you store your helicopter and jet skis.
Ross, they justify the price because the oligarCEOs have to buy cheaply built yachts that break every other day like just like we buy their cheaply built products. Honestly - i wouldn't pay that much for that surround given that it would be cheaper to find someone to make it from a sheet of stainless and you'd also support locals. Nothing justifies the price of that part other than the way these people were raised IE, to be scammers and thieves of good people's time and money.
It is insane really, consumer obsolescence kills me, Everything made too overpriced and to break in a short time. It does my head in. Ross
Very disappointed, you have been working on this project for years and the missus is only up to 50 or 60% of the work. Should be well over 90% by now. have you tried the 'men can't multitask' trick?
