Latest car and driver Mazda 3 2.5 automatic test car made 60mph in 6.8 seconds and Golf 1.4 tsi can made 60 8.0 second at max. either the Mazda driver messed up his shifts badly or its not 2.5l or your engine is not stock. Mazda simply has better 0-60time. I have driven the Mazda and I own a Golf VII 1.4TSI

Agreed, and while the MZ 2.5 is capable of great MPG (for a N/A gas 2.5L) it does so via a very tall final drive ratio. Second gear is good for over 60 mph. Add in a heavier car, auto vs manual, and extra passenger, it was a legit pass
It's not 186 vs 250 the 2.5 mazda 3 is supposed to have 250 nm and the 1.4 tsi also something like that but it's just that with a turbo you have these 250 nm at very low like 1500rpm while without a turbo you will get it but at 3500rpm And like i said in some other commebts on this videos that mazda 3 is probably an automatic and mazda's automatics have kind of a bad reputation plus the VW driver here is shifting gears really well
The power delivery of a turbo is nearly like instantly delivering all the power when you press the accelerator but with a naturally aspirated engine it's more linear

At the time it wasn't straight piped and it was running the stock airbox. If it was straight piped, It would be more noticeable in the video.
I have a Jetta with the same engine and I put most daily's to shame, I've beaten mazdas before too, these people dont know what they're talking about
I own a 2.5 3 and have beaten pretty easily Jetta tsi and gold TSI 1.4s, civic turbo, Mazda 6 etc, it's not a fast car, but it's no slouch for sure
