I trekked those steps in 2012 maybe... and when I got up to the garage ( it was painted dark brown) and it opened. A lady stepped out looked at me and said " Thelma Todd?" I said Yeah. "Yep this is where it happened"
The problem is...there was lots of corruption going on with the LA Law enforcement, and also with the coroners of that time period!..The corruption included Mafia types, bribes and payoffs, etc. Where there is money, there frequently is corruption. In the case of LA, there was corruption between the Hollywood moguls, and the cops. That sort of thing likely is still happening, in a more sophisticated way, even now!..So yeah, we might never know just how/why Thelma died under such dire circumstances. She liked to play with fire, and maybe got burned. Sad, because she certainly had a few more good years of being a mid-level Star. Back then, women were usually cast aside by the time they hit 35 or so.
..and then the person(s) who beat her started the car and left?..She wasn't beat to death..Why wasn't the car running and also had 2 gallons of gas left?..so..somebody went back and shut off the car after she died?
Thelma Todd is buried about 30 minutes from my house in Lawrence, MA. I have visited her grave a few times over the years. Beautiful woman and a sad and disturbing ending.
In the early 90’s I read Hot Toddy and became obsessed with Thelma and her death. I grew up in Santa Monica and knew of the Sidewalk Cafe. I had to see it all for myself. It was so much harder to find the set of garages. A local homeowner told me that mudslides cut through the hillside decades ago and wiped out the road that used to take you directly to the garages. She gave me directions to locate Thelma’s garage and I eventually found it. With book in hand I sat leaning against the garage door and read the account of her last hours. The sun was starting to go down. I stood up to leave and an older man appeared in the windows above the garage and was yelling at me although I could not hear anything from outside. He was clearly very angry. It scared me enough I left embarrassed that I had clearly trespassed and pissed off the occupant. Back at the neighbors home I thanked them for getting me the right directions and told them what happened. I was then told that nobody lives above the garages, those spaces are storage rooms only, and that nobody would be tall enough to be seen in those windows. She believed I saw Roland Wests ghost and that locals believe those properties to be haunted. I’ve never forgotten Thelma’s sad fate. I do not believe for a second that she died in that car. She was dumped there.
Thanks for sharing. That’s amazing you probably did see him. I wonder why he’s still there and so angry. All I know for sure is she didn’t kill herself or die on accident in that car. Nothing adds up to either of those conclusions, and her case should be reopened

Look how she was dressed. Highly improbable that Thelma, dressed in a fur coat of that size, walked all those steps especially after drinking. Somebody put her there, turned on the car, and closed the garage door. Chances are it was someone she knew

Makes me think there might have been foul play involved , like someone tried to cover up their involvement by placing her in car to make it look either accidental or suicide. Just my thoughts. Agree. Lots don't add up. The food in her stomach which was not served at the party. She must have gone somewhere else and then driven to the garage, which was unlocked, despite West saying he had locked it without knowing she was inside. No mention of the actual cause of death. I suspect the chauffeur of the car had something to do with what happened to her, along with other prime suspects.

Another old Hollywood mystery seems like Hollywood back then had a ton shady dealings and people I’ve always been fascinated with these kind of stories
Re/ the man who owned the Cigar shop at 8th & Figueroa who said that he saw Thelma Todd on Sunday: This location is 6.8 miles north of The Red Feather Club Cafe at 8620 Figueroa St. [cross street Manchester] that Sam LoCigno [who worked for Mickey Cohen] had leased.
Thelma Todd had an interesting life, she was certainly beautiful and talented, too bad she met the wrong type of men. Very sad that her life ended without knowing what really happened to her. I do believe she was murdered. Thank you, Scott for this interesting video.
Thank you Scott - been following your web site since around 1998. Loved that you're able to go on site since many of us can't. She was obviously murdered, sadly. Who wear clean heels up all those stairs unless she carried her shoes - while running in hosiery or barefoot.
This has always been my most fav story❤ I remember driving by back in 1996, wondering what it had been. I live in Eastern Canada so far away from there Jordan did the story and it bacame my most fav Now Scott thank u for doing this again “Just for me”❤
I have long adored the beautiful and very talented Thelma Todd. Her work in comedy/music was second to none. Previous to your excellent video I had only read a short online article about her death. Thank you very much for producing this, it really brings the story to life. What a tragedy to lose her beautiful looks and personality at only 29.
Wonderful job, hoofing it up all those steps whilst steadily filming and not stumbling once. Great job! Now, all I want to know is, what's a time switch and why are they erected with such easy public access? Time switching seems like a very important function to allow any passing yahoo to mess with it.
Thelma was a beautiful bubbly actress, yet another victim of her environment. There’s definitely a mystery behind her death. R.I.P. I totally 💯 agree with you, Scott… I’ve yet to view a corpse that looked well enough to sit up and talk.
My dad and brother did, sterling work by an experienced embalmer and make up artist. Not so much my mum. I’m sure that someone else worked on her or the employees had left. She still looked good enough to view, but not to sit up and talk. I was so stunned to see my dad that the word ‘Dad!’ In a bit of an exited voice just came out.
Thank You for doing this. I always felt it was Roland West. Have you seen Martin J. Wolf’s account of the events. Look him up, and see his perspective of the events that occurred during and after Thelma Todd’s Death. Gives a somewhat clearer picture…Thanks.
He did confess although I think he claimed he locked her in the garage to teach her a lesson - not meaning to Jill her. She may have kept the car in to stay warm and died as a result.
I learned this from a book about her. She was not seated behind the steering wheel, although her feet are to the left of the gearshift. She did not start the car herself. See at 14:09.
Great stuff. She was a really funny woman; I always love seeing her in anything. But I cringed a little a week or two ago hearing Groucho tell her "you'll have to spend the night in the garage".
I'm so glad you did a video on Thelma, she really rocked the finger waves and pin curls,Jordan did a great video on her and the cafe a few years back, but you knew that.
I saw a video that claimed, if I remember correctly, that Thelma climbed the first set of stairs to the road at the back of the cafe. At the end of the road there was a trail crossing vacant land & meeting up with the road below the garages. Thelma, supposedly, walked up to them from there.
I love watching her and zazu in the shorts together. Spunky from the little rascals was in a few of them. I found those a few years ago and you can see them on UA-cam.
Great video touching on the mysterious aspects but not departing from known facts. I learned a lot that I did not know before! Thanks for a lot of hard work and showing perspectives not seen before! Oh man! I felt those stairs!
This is such a weird coincidence, not only did I just watch Horse Feathers recently, but I was listening to a podcast on her death today. Which was done by You Must Remember This, for its Dead Blondes series.

The investigators probably were on the take from lucky luchhyy 🤔🤔We will never know. Thanks for sharing this interesting short . I love the golden age of Hollywoodland movie stars . Amen for TCM❤
Exactly...poor girl
Absolutely a most interesting post, thank you for sharing this.
I only became aware of Thelma Todd a few years back. Caught one of her Marx Brothers films (I think it was Horse Feathers) on TV while I was hospitalized. A good movie from what I caught. Terrible for her to die so young. Keep up the good work, Scott. I've been a fan of yours since I stumbled upon FAD years ago (Ennis Cosby was the one who led me there. Strange, I know). Happy very belated Happy New Year to you and Troy. ❤ from Illinois
Another old Hollywood mystery seems like Hollywood back then had a ton shady dealings and people I’ve always been fascinated with these kind of stories
They still do but it’s more hush
I wonder why she would pick Lucky Luciano to date He's a mobster who would date a mobster I don't care how much money they have.
@@nicoletrandel2966: He’d probably threatened her life.
Re/ the man who owned the Cigar shop at 8th & Figueroa who said that he saw Thelma Todd on Sunday: This location is
6.8 miles north of The Red Feather Club Cafe at 8620 Figueroa St.
What about her fondness for drugs and booze?
Wow!! I can't believe she was born in Lawrence Massachusetts. That's where I was born. She was absolutely beautiful and funny. What a sad story.
Thelma Todd - beautiful and talented. Thank you for featuring her in this episode.
Such a sad ending to a pretty girl. I enjoyed watching all her movies. Very good presentation of her life!
I have known of this story for years but loved you bringing it to life by giving us a tour of the site. TY!
I particularly enjoy your old Hollywood videos, and will never stop supporting or watching. Thanks for all you do!
Thank you Scott - been following your web site since around 1998. Loved that you're able to go on site since many of us can't. She was obviously murdered, sadly. Who wear clean heels up all those stairs unless she carried her shoes - while running in hosiery or barefoot.
This was facinating Scott. Loved it. (Karen from Australia) 💗🐨🦘💗
This has always been my most fav story❤
I remember driving by back in 1996, wondering what it had been. I live in Eastern Canada so far away from there
Jordan did the story and it bacame my most fav
Now Scott thank u for doing this again
“Just for me”❤
How did she walk up those stairs in high heels?
Yes, plus the lady work of Hollywood, studios had history of covering up/ destroy evidence. Believe her boyfriend was involved.
Yes! She was probably also dressed in a long gown from the party the night before! Drunk, heels, gown and stairs, that's a recipe for disaster!
Very interesting, something happened other than what the autopsy said. Thank you for sharing
So nice you went up the stairs for us! 😊 Thank you!
Thanks!
Thank YOU VERY MUCH! You are very kind!
@@DearlyDepartedTours thank you!! Love your storytelling!!
Thank You for doing this. I always felt it was Roland West. Have you seen Martin J. Wolf’s account of the events. Look him up, and see his perspective of the events that occurred during and after Thelma Todd’s Death. Gives a somewhat clearer picture…Thanks.
I had read somewhere (and I don’t remember where) that Roland West confessed on his death bed to friend and actor Chester Morris that he murdered her.
He did confess although I think he claimed he locked her in the garage to teach her a lesson - not meaning to Jill her. She may have kept the car in to stay warm and died as a result.
I think 2 men involved...so sad

I learned this from a book about her. She was not seated behind the steering wheel, although her feet are to the left of the gearshift. She did not start the car herself. See at 14:09.
Great stuff. She was a really funny woman; I always love seeing her in anything. But I cringed a little a week or two ago hearing Groucho tell her "you'll have to spend the night in the garage".
I'm so glad you did a video on Thelma, she really rocked the finger waves and pin curls,Jordan did a great video on her and the cafe a few years back, but you knew that.
Great story and video. Love the locations. Thanks for sharing…!
Wow! Another great one from Scott! Thanks man. Keep up the great work
She was such a beauty I wish I could go back in time and see everything in real time!
Scott!! I was an active member of the FAD forum long ago. I just happened to stumble across this video. Glad I did. ♥
Thank you for coming, old pal!
What an amazing time period in Hollywood. Nice to see the house is 90% intact.
I saw a video that claimed, if I remember correctly, that Thelma climbed the first set of stairs to
the road at the back of the cafe. At the end of the road there was a trail crossing vacant land & meeting up with the road below the garages. Thelma, supposedly, walked up to them from there.
I love Thelma's scene as Lady Plumtree with Stan Laurel as Agnes the maid in Another Fine Mess. Both of them are adorable.
I love watching her and zazu in the shorts together. Spunky from the little rascals was in a few of them. I found those a few years ago and you can see them on UA-cam.
Just found Thelma a few years back and I love her
Another great video, you never disappoint!❤❤
Hi Scott just found your channel and subscribed I’m fascinated with old Hollywood your content is awesome 🇬🇧🌹🇬🇧🌹🇬🇧🌹
Great video touching on the mysterious aspects but not departing from known facts. I learned a lot that I did not know before! Thanks for a lot of hard work and showing perspectives not seen before! Oh man! I felt those stairs!
Scott. I got giddy when I saw you were doing this 😁 my favorite celebrity death!
Thank you for sharing with us 😊
Celebrity murder 😞
This is such a weird coincidence, not only did I just watch Horse Feathers recently, but I was listening to a podcast on her death today. Which was done by You Must Remember This, for its Dead Blondes series.
