@scottpretopapa7026 it might just need an update. I am Wrangler shopping and a numbers nerd. It takes conservatively the first 16,000 miles to break even with a charger install, and the delta between the cost of a gallon of gas and the cost of electric for a charge.
Nice! We got lucky our garage already had a 220 outlet for my welder so was able to use that. For me it wasn’t fuel savings, it was the extra 100 horsepower and torque of the 4xe vs the regular turd drivetrain. Being able to chirp all 4 37s is awesome. And actually having passing power on the expressway is very welcome .
Nice! Our 2022 model we still have for 10 more months and it’s been good except for an intermittent issue with the gas cap not opening with you hit the button. Sometimes it won’t work for a few days and then it works again. Hasn’t been annoying enough to take it to the dealer, but we’ll have it addressed at next oil change
@donshoemaker_ you mean the gladiator? Just turned 10k and first oil change in the last few weeks. We’ve had it for almost 8 months now and zero issues. Have 37s on it, RockTrix wheels, and a bunch of other small mods. We turned in this 21 4xe lease to buy the gladiator but we do still have our red 22 rubicon 4xe that will go back in the next couple months.
I too love my 4xe, 2022 model and I bought it in April 2024, I have now had it for 5 months and put 15,000 kms on it with no issues, absolutely love it. I too would love a Gladiator 4xe, maybe one day
Glad to hear! We still have about 7 months left with our 22 4xe. Hoping incentives will come back up and we can get another one, or possibly a gladiator 4xe if they are out in time. That Rooster really throw me off at first, I live in Brooklyn and thought, and someone actually bought a rooster around here. I use to live in Freehold NJ and had roosters around our house all the time.
I'm retired and use my Gladiator for daily driver transfer stations duty light hauling but seldom do more than 30 miles a day living just a few miles out of town in MT. Due to the way I drive, I was thinking I'd do much of my driving on electric like 80% plus maybe. Hmmm.
Yeah if you can get a 220v outlet to be able to charge, it’ll fully recharge from empty in about 2 hours. So for my wife she can take kids to school and grocery shop and recharge by the time they are out of school and run some more errands, so you can do 50ish miles or more in a day if it’s spread out.
Our 2022 is at 34k miles. I’ve not been impressed with Jeep’s dealers but the vehicle has met expectations. It has had a couple minor warranty claims and some recalls, to where I’m considering the extended warranty. But with the electric side covered to 100k we’ll probably roll the dice. It’s not my old 4Runner, for better and worse. The warranty claims: front locker switch stuck in the “locked” position even when unlocked. TrailRecon had the same failure. The steering stabilizer got replaced due to death wobble. And a windshield replacement. Stuff you’d not need a dealer visit to fix in the later years. We intend to keep it around a while.
We still have our red 2022 for another year! I’m hoping I can somehow trade in my 23 gladiator for the new gladiator 4xe that’s coming out :) miss having the extra power when I’m in the gladiator
Hi, great video 👍and I don't want to disappoint anybody, but I need to tell our story about this car. We have our Wrangler Rubicon (2022) for about 26 months now. It’s my wife car. She is in love with this model and in Belgium you can only buy the hybrid model new. We live in Belgium, no rough terrain, just our street is muddy over 1 mile when it rains. So no off-road adventures done. It drives great, when it is not in the garage for repair. After 1.5 year (about 6.000miles) the aft RH brake caliper seized. (Again, never driven in very muddy conditions or rough terrain.) Around the same time, airco inoperative >> broken wire. Also, it rains inside on the driver and passenger side. Always wet under the floor mat when it is parked in the rain. Now after about 2 years (10.000 miles) the famous death wobble around 60 miles/hour (Again, never driven in very muddy conditions or rough terrain.) >> steering shock absorber replaced and checked alignment. (JEEP advice) And now since about 3 months the car shakes from left to right at stand still and makes a metal sound. It feels like it wants to shift gear, but doesn’t. It doesn’t shake the same every day, sometimes a bit less or more. In electric mode or engine running, park, rev, neutral or drive position, doesn’t matter. It seems to come from the gearbox. The car went to the dealer, and they changed the wire loop to the electric motor in the gearbox (recommended by JEEP) It didn’t fix it. The car stayed at the dealer for 4 weeks, awaiting a solution from JEEP. No result until now. We picked it up 2 days ago (they wanted their free rental cat back). No problem driving it but shacking Steven is still with us 🙄 They await another solution from JEEP and are aiming for the gearbox (really?). So there will be a big chance that they need to replace the complete gearbox…to be continued… We are very disappointed as it is not a cheap car (around €70.000 here) and we already have issues as which make it look a 15-year-old car. (Again, never driven in very muddy conditions or rough terrain.) So far my advice is, look up (we didn’t) what issues u can expect on forums even if you buy it a new one.
24" JLU Rubi 4xe owner here, depending on what state you buy in I was able to get 14% off MSRP and $15K off with incentives. Payment is $400/mo for $71K Jeep MSRP.
That’s awesome! Def wasn’t the case here in Detroit a few months ago when I was looking. Even with our employee discount lease payments were around $650+ What state are you in? Did you just recently pick it up?
@omgcrisbreezy on this one we did $1000 total which $418 of that was the first month payment and then 23 more payments of $418. Keep in mind we get employee discount so that def helps.
It’s a hybrid, 25 miles pure electric, but you still have the gas engine to keep going. FCA targeted the 25-28 mile range initially for these because something like 70% of Americans don’t travel farther than this for their commute to work. Gen 2 4xe platform should be hitting the streets in 2026 with more range and more power though.
Monthly payments don’t equate to a good deal ón a car. I wish you stated what your out the door price was. I’m currently looking at $48.8k out the door on a brand new 2024 wrangler rubicon 4xe, I’m curious if this is a great price or just good to average for the time. MSRP is $66.4k for reference
Wife had an unfortunate accident where her Wrangler Sport 4D inline 6 where it was totaled. She walked away without a scratch. Jumped into the EV Hybrid world with a 2024 Sahara 4XE. Live in North East Indiana. We installed a 2 hour Clipper Creek charger. 4 weeks in and we have been full electric and more than 1/2 tank of dealership gas remaining. We only received the $3640 for tax credit and put it down on a buy. Extended warranty is a must. So we are paying more monthly but love this Jeep much better than our old Sport.
Weird... I have a 2020 2 door Rubicon, and I get 22 to 24 mixed economy and as high as 27 on road trips, assuming the fuel gods are watching me. That's with the 2.0T engine, which I love.
Those are awesome numbers. The shorter wheelbase and less weight probably helps. This one had 35s too which didn’t help. Also, I never had the Speedo updated so actual fuel economy probably around 6-8% higher than what the actual numbers showed on Jeep.
@PeakPerformanceEngineering that's right I forgot about the 35s. My wife likes my jeep so much she thinking about getting one in a few years. We have about a 10 Mike commute to work so I'm really eyeballing that 4XE.
How reliable are these things used? I'm eyeing one for 32k but I'll have to trade in my ICE naturally aspirated Mazda 3 for it and I dont know if that drop in reliability is worth it
The battery and hybrid warranty is 8 or 10 years, I forget which, so just make sure you have a few years of warranty. Knock on wood but we had the 2021 for 3 years and are at 2.5 years right now with the 2022 and no big issues with either one. If you go on the jeep 4xe FB groups you only ever hear the bad, but they sell a lot of these and I think for the most part they have been pretty reliable.
My 24 4xe will only go for so long until it decides to refresh or something, maybe a week or so doing 20 to 25 a day so maybe they changed something as i could never go 5 or 6 weeks,it simply wont allow it
Not with the 4xe it has plenty of power to push the 37s. Also this is a rubicon trunk so it already has 4.10s I believe from factory. Now if you had a sport that has the taller gears then yes you may find you need to regear to get the performance back. My 23 gladiator Mojave with stock 4.10s also rocks the same 37s and no issues with the stock 3.6 V6
Yeah the power these 4xes have is the best part. I replaced this one with a gladiator and that 3.6 just isn’t the same lol. Really wish they would have offered a 4xe gladiator
You only get 23 miles of driving on the battery max, I have one as a rental while my JL is in the shop, and on a full battery it only gets me 23 miles on the battery which is crazy for the price
Probably depends on the algorithm and how flat it is where you are. Here in MI for us, if it’s warm like right now we get around 25 showing. In winter it is closer to 23 usually. I’ve heard on the Jeep 4xe groups on FB that some of the saharas go as high as 28
Toronto, Ontario winter similar to Chicago, almost 3 years the Sky-One Touch looks new. I use 303 Fabric protectant, two coats in the fall, then 2 coats in the spring, and a one coat top up middle summer. The 303 beads the water and makes it dry off faster.
Do you mind if I ask what you do for a living, to be able to afford two of these? lol. I live in Canada and these go for between 80 to over 100k. I do wish I could afford one.
I work for a semiconductor manufacturer selling into the automotive industry. But the reason we were able to get these was because they were pretty cheap early on. Both this 2021 and our 2022 have around $60k msrp and the lease was only $410/month with only first months payment due. However when I was now looking at 2024s a few months ago, the leases had skyrocketed to 700-800 month for same vehicle. This is why I ended up just buying a leftover 23 gladiator Mojave since they had nice discounts of around $14k off msrp.
I like my Mojave, just wish I could justify regearing to make it faster, or wish they had the 4xe version out. I had heard next year they were offering a 4xe gladiator but it’s gone quiet, so not sure that’s happening or not 🤷
@@PeakPerformanceEngineering as a fellow Mojave owner, I feel your pain. I have the exact same truck you do, except with a manual transmission. That means mine is even more gutless! Hahaha...
As the owner of a 2023 Gladiator, you will become very friendly with your Neighbourhood gas station. They are pigs on gas. Unless you want the styling, you should have just paid out your lease and bought the 4xe. I hope Jeep up dates the Gladiator with some sort of electrification. I love my Gladiator, but its expensive to run.
I heard there’s a 4xe version coming in 26 when they refresh all the 4xe with next gen. My gladiator with 37s gets around 14-16mpg It’s nice having the truck bed though
Yep that’s the hard part :( I ended up replacing with the gladiator cause it was a better deal at the time. But I’ve been hearing now that some states are offering like 15-17k off 4xe wranglers. That’s not the case here in Mi unfortunately but might be worth a drive
Nope, it’s a rubicon so already had 4.10s. And being a 4xe it has a crap ton of torque, no need. Our other 4xe rubicon has 37s, no lift and no regearing. My gladiator Mojave also has 4.10s and 37s and plenty of power for driving around, but maybe if you wanted to tow with it, you might want to do the 4.88s or 5.13s.
Oh yeah, I think it’ll be engine off up to about 80 as long as your not commanding too much throttle. If you try to command throttle beyond a certain point it’ll engage the gas motor
Maybe a dumb question but does it charge the battery at all if you don’t plug it in? I know it has regen braking but will it still have the acceleration and torque if you never charge it? I had a TJ I sold and we now have new Model Y. I’m hoping for a little bit of best worlds when I go shopping in August :) Thanks for the video.
Yes even when it goes to zero for battery, it will still actually be saving some electricity for the extra power boost when going full throttle. In my experience though here in Michigan, I have never seen the regenerative braking be enough to actually charge up the battery back to 1% or more.
NP and good luck shopping! I’m a big fan of the 4xe. The power is awesome and being able to hit trails and do short 25 mile trips completely electric is awesome! You’ll dig it.
My sister takes her 17 down real trails and does Jamborees and all that. If you use a Jeep for Jeep stuff; expect failures. She killed her 12 in the woods when her rear main seal went in the worst location on the trail. New one has ate diffs axles and everything else underneath it!
I saw that, but it’s still a bit high for a Willy’s compared to what we got these rubicons for. These rubicon 4xes in 21 and 22 were just first months payment down and 418/month for 35 more months. Our red 22 4xe is due back in April so we are within 6 months for early turn in so I’m watching it carefully for deals. Just seems right now all the incentives are on the Willy’s/sports.
MPGe is the electric mileage when it's in full electric mode. Has nothing to do with the MPG you can expect to get when it's in hybrid or full ICE modes. It's unfortunate that this is such a confusing # for folks who aren't used to what MPGe stands for. And it shouldn't come as a surprise that 49MPGe is on the very low end of MPGe for cars, it is a Jeep after all!
I have a 2024 4xe that I started leasing in March. I went from a 2019 Wrangler Unlimited Sport. I was trying to figure out why i wasn’t getting the gas mileage I thought I should be (especially on a recent long trip). This video cleared that up for me. Thanks for your video! I learned a lot. I wish I would have seen this video sooner.
Yep we could have bought it. It didn’t make quite make sense though, the buyout was about the same price as my brand new gladiator Mojave, so made sense to go brand new for the same money. Getting almost $15k off MSRP was a good deal. Even now 6 months later my Mojave is still worth around the $40k I paid if I wanted to sell it right now. Our 22 rubicon 4xe goes back in May, so we’ll have to see what the market looks like at that time whether we buy it or get something else.
You def need level 2 charging or this doesn’t make as much sense. Level 2 charges in under 2 hours, so for me and my wife working from home we can get 75 miles in a day sometimes
You’d have to be in a hilly area to get the battery to charge with the regen. Michigan is flat though so no chance unfortunately. My 23 gladiator on 37s gets 14mpg and our red 4xe on the same 37s gets around 18, sometimes as high as 21, just depends how much electric you use vs gas.
Yeah that’s the price you pay if you wanna drive a jeep unfortunately. Heavy and unaerodynamic. But still it’s nice being able to have doors off and top down
@@PeakPerformanceEngineeringabsolutely, they’re one of my favorite vehicles, super capable with military dna, i think once the 4xe technology progresses hopefully the mpg increases by a lot
The all electric jeep recon will be coming soon and will be interesting to see if they make any range improvements with the gladiator 4xe that’s coming next year.
I just turned one of these 4xe's back in to Enterprise after 3 weeks. I would never own one of these. Terrible gas mileage. A fully charged battery will get you about 20 miles. After that, you are using gas with a very heavy vehicle. I do like the 2 liter turbo engine, though. Very peppy.
Did you charge it every day? These only make sense if you have a 220v charger so you can recharge it in 2 hours. The 110v charger is ok for overnight in a pinch, but being able to recharge in a couple hours can really extend the range. Sometimes we can recharge multiple times throughout the day and extend Ev range to 70-80 miles
@@PeakPerformanceEngineering No, I didn't. It was a rental vehicle for me. I usually drive longer than an hour each way to work so this vehicle isn't for me. If one was to drive short distances, it might work.
My numbers were probably a little lower than actual since I didn’t have a tazer to account for the 35s, maybe 5-7% off. But I’d say if you’re seeing 24, that’s still taking into account a lot of the all electric driving. Example being when I would drive to Chicago from Detroit and back for work which is 600ish miles round trip, it would drop right down to 18ish because at that point it’s basically a gas vehicle, your only doing 25 miles of the 600 on electric. I also drive 80mph usually which doesn’t help, but here in Detroit area 80mph is commonplace.
It’s accurate to however they measure that driving mix, but it’s misleading. It would assume a lot of pure EV driving with a lot of charging. Think of it this way. If you only ever drove 25 miles or less on a full charge, you could theoretically run EV the whole time and achieve huge MPG. The reality is that sometimes you could forget to charge or maybe need to drive more, and the more you rely on the gas engine, the more it pulls down the MPG. The additional horsepower though is amazing and for a heavy wrangler with big tires it’s still doing great. My 23 gladiator on the same 37s only manages 14-16mpg.
@PeakPerformanceEngineering i waa thinking of buy because it is offering 0% intrest deal. I drive 80mp in first 7-1pm than comes home for hour or 2 and than delivery again. I know wrangler for delivery insane but mpg caught my eye
What didn’t you like? Guessing if a rental it was a lower level sport/willys? We still have our 2022 Rubi 4xe for another 6 months. Will probably get a JT 4xe when it comes out in 26 as well.
lol whaaaat? I’m just a jeep enthusiast that’s owned a 2018 sport, 21 4xe Rubi, 22 4xe Rubi (still own- lease goes back in April ‘25), and a 23 gladiator Mojave (still own).
Even with our employee discount lease payments were around $650+
What state are you in? Did you just recently pick it up?
That’s insane. How much down did you put to get that kind of monthly payment
@omgcrisbreezy on this one we did $1000 total which $418 of that was the first month payment and then 23 more payments of $418. Keep in mind we get employee discount so that def helps.
25 Miles range is a deal breaker for so many people. $65k now (12-17-24) $45k new but still no buyers.
21.3 mpg is the same as my Lexus sedan. Honestly that’s great!
Glad to hear! These things are tanks for sure and usually pretty safe
That’s what all PHEVs are like a tank of gas lasts forever! I’d recommend using it up every 1-1.5 months
That’s the perfect commute distance for it. You could do almost all the work driving on just electric only
I get high end 27-29 on 35 with just one charge.
My 24 4xe will only go for so long until it decides to refresh or something, maybe a week or so doing 20 to 25 a day so maybe they changed something as i could never go 5 or 6 weeks,it simply wont allow it
Yeah maybe one of the updates.
Did you need to change anything else after putting 37’s on your jeep? I’m wanting 37’s but I heard you need to change gearing.
@@PeakPerformanceEngineering nice! That makes my decision easy. Keep it up!
Awesome video 👏👏 luck you 😢 never had an issue. My 21 Sahara only had 17k showing stop and start need a service. But I love my jeep 😂😂
Yeah the power these 4xes have is the best part. I replaced this one with a gladiator and that 3.6 just isn’t the same lol. Really wish they would have offered a 4xe gladiator
@@PeakPerformanceEngineering yep. I just watched your purchasing gladiator that’s awesome deal!! You got a best price 👏👏
Yeah I can’t complain, really enjoying it so far too, nice having the truck bed.
I’ve heard on the Jeep 4xe groups on FB that some of the saharas go as high as 28
thanks for the knowledge
Glad it helped!
I go about 3 weeks without fueling up
Nice not having to hit the gas station very much:)
I got the 24 Willys 4xE with one touch soft top. Im a bit worried if it’ll hold up in Chicago winter weather.
A friend of ours has it on her Jeep here in Michigan and it’s been fine so you should be good :)
@@Davin4xe thanks, I will give that a try.
2025 gladiator 4xe confirmed!
Oh heck yeah! Time to trade in lol.
Great review! I'm off to look for the Mojave video to see how you compare them. 😊
My gladiator with 37s gets around 14-16mpg
It’s nice having the truck bed though
I’m sold, now how to afford it here in late 24’.
Yep that’s the hard part :( I ended up replacing with the gladiator cause it was a better deal at the time. But I’ve been hearing now that some states are offering like 15-17k off 4xe wranglers. That’s not the case here in Mi unfortunately but might be worth a drive
No rubbing even when if flexes ?
Nope, 35s are no prob on the 4xe rubicon. Idk about other models of 4xe cause they have different suspension
Did you regear Jeep to put 35 inch tires on?
Nope, it’s a rubicon so already had 4.10s. And being a 4xe it has a crap ton of torque, no need. Our other 4xe rubicon has 37s, no lift and no regearing.
My gladiator Mojave also has 4.10s and 37s and plenty of power for driving around, but maybe if you wanted to tow with it, you might want to do the 4.88s or 5.13s.
Can you drive at 60 MPH on 100% electric ?
Oh yeah, I think it’ll be engine off up to about 80 as long as your not commanding too much throttle. If you try to command throttle beyond a certain point it’ll engage the gas motor
Yes. If you keep a light foot. If you try to accelerate fast, engine will turn on. At about 65 or 70 up hill, it usually turns on.
Yep and with bigger tires it definitely turns on easier than without
Maybe a dumb question but does it charge the battery at all if you don’t plug it in? I know it has regen braking but will it still have the acceleration and torque if you never charge it? I had a TJ I sold and we now have new Model Y. I’m hoping for a little bit of best worlds when I go shopping in August :)
Thanks for the video.
Yes even when it goes to zero for battery, it will still actually be saving some electricity for the extra power boost when going full throttle.
In my experience though here in Michigan, I have never seen the regenerative braking be enough to actually charge up the battery back to 1% or more.
@@PeakPerformanceEngineering thanks!
NP and good luck shopping! I’m a big fan of the 4xe. The power is awesome and being able to hit trails and do short 25 mile trips completely electric is awesome! You’ll dig it.
Whats rhe avergae on Hyrid all of the time
Depends how much electric your using. If you just drive say 1k miles without any charging it would be something like 18mpg with the 35s we had on it
My sister takes her 17 down real trails and does Jamborees and all that. If you use a Jeep for Jeep stuff; expect failures. She killed her 12 in the woods when her rear main seal went in the worst location on the trail. New one has ate diffs axles and everything else underneath it!
My daughter just got one. What A BEAUTY 💙
Nice! 👍
We drive low mileage and stay at 38 mpg. Almost all electric.
That’s the way to go! 😎
FYI picked up my 24 Willys 4xe for $360 a month, with $3k down. MSRP of $61K. Incentives are strong as hell right now.
TY for a great information.
Welcome :) 🙏
I love to hear the rooster crowd
Do you always drive in 4WD Auto?
I have a 2024 4xe that I started leasing in March. I went from a 2019 Wrangler Unlimited Sport. I was trying to figure out why i wasn’t getting the gas mileage I thought I should be (especially on a recent long trip). This video cleared that up for me. Thanks for your video! I learned a lot. I wish I would have seen this video sooner.
Yep always 4wd auto for 32k miles :)
Sorry the ride was so loud I couldn't hear you for a bit😂
Why not just keep it then why do you have to give it back? Was there not a buyout option when you bought it?
Yep we could have bought it. It didn’t make quite make sense though, the buyout was about the same price as my brand new gladiator Mojave, so made sense to go brand new for the same money. Getting almost $15k off MSRP was a good deal. Even now 6 months later my Mojave is still worth around the $40k I paid if I wanted to sell it right now.
Our 22 rubicon 4xe goes back in May, so we’ll have to see what the market looks like at that time whether we buy it or get something else.
Dang that rooster he was on que 120 v take 8 or 9 hrs screams or if your not plugged in your just carrying 600lbs of batteries scream.
You def need level 2 charging or this doesn’t make as much sense. Level 2 charges in under 2 hours, so for me and my wife working from home we can get 75 miles in a day sometimes
18 mpg is horrible how the heck doesn't the battery charge while you drive it?
You’d have to be in a hilly area to get the battery to charge with the regen. Michigan is flat though so no chance unfortunately.
My 23 gladiator on 37s gets 14mpg and our red 4xe on the same 37s gets around 18, sometimes as high as 21, just depends how much electric you use vs gas.
@@PeakPerformanceEngineering thats not the best you’re very chill about it, I’m so cheap if i don’t get 30 mpg at least I’m gutted
Prices have changed. Just bought by wife a 2024 4xe 48,000. Way below invoice.
Nice. A sport or Willy’s I assume?
It was so loud I barely can hear you when you were driving
Sorry, I wasn’t able to use a mic for this video, it ended up breaking and I was still waiting for the new replacement to arrive
That's BS I get 24 on long trips single charge if you drive it .
So 49mpg is not accurate. Doordash driver
@PeakPerformanceEngineering thank you
@digitalcamaraderie5685 it recharges with a 220v charger in about 2 hours. So you could probably do about 60-65 miles of your daily commute pure Ev.
No way that you loved it. I just rented one for a week in Grand Teton. What a piece of crap.
What didn’t you like? Guessing if a rental it was a lower level sport/willys?
We still have our 2022 Rubi 4xe for another 6 months. Will probably get a JT 4xe when it comes out in 26 as well.
@@PeakPerformanceEngineering Sahara. The only thing I liked was the 23 mpg we got after putting 1000 miles on it in the park.
not worth the money ....
Compared to what?
This guy is a jeep car dealer. Lies
lol whaaaat? I’m just a jeep enthusiast that’s owned a 2018 sport, 21 4xe Rubi, 22 4xe Rubi (still own- lease goes back in April ‘25), and a 23 gladiator Mojave (still own).
Our 22 4xe rubicon is same deal, no major issues or problems at all in nearly 3 years, just tire rotations and oil changes.
Do/did you have a 4xe that you had a bad experience with?
