Oh this reminds me of a belgian comic book called "dad"! Its about a single dad with four daughters, all with different moms (all are alive, but just too occupied by their wildly different careers, actress, business, red cross...). So all the daughters are really different too. The dad is a struggling actor that goes to a bunch of weird gigs all the time. Its really funny, and the kids slowly age throughout the albums.

Mother Lore: She died on impact in a car accident involving a drunk driver running a red light on her way back from work. She had called her husband minutes before planning where they will have dinner with their kids that night. The twins were too young to remember their mother much. After the funeral the father had to sell the family house and move into an apartment in the city with a new job because he couldn't afford paying the house bills being a single parent of four and sole provider for his family now. The girls had to change schools as well due to the move but still keep in touch with their friends via calls and texts.
The bathroom issue can be deadly lol: One of Clare Siobhan’s NSB matriarchs died of embarrassment when her family walked in on her in their shared bathroom one too many times. 😳

I feel like the sister on the bottom bunk often brings her pillow and duvet into her older sisters’ room for a “sleepover”, much to the annoyance of the older girls who want to stay up late talking about boys 😂
This is beautiful!! Maybe the parents are amicably divorced, it just didn’t work out, but they’re still good parents? Not very juicy, but realistic, I think. I’d love to see a single parent build for a dad who never found a partner and decided to adopt on his own.

You could always think of the string lights with pictures being pictures of the teen and her friends when they were kids. Maybe from when she was at camp or friends that moved away.

hear me out, the dad has a degree to be working in the police career, he used to work in the force and that's where he met his wife/mother to his 4 daughters, oh no accident happens she dies on the job, the dad can't take it he quits and now he works a regular job and does everything for his daughters cuz that's all he has left of his past lover
(it's a bit dark but yk fun)
I don't know what impresses me more the neat construction of the apartment or the fact that you tell us about the characteristics of your sims & allow that to influence the layout & decoration of your living space
I kind of like the idea that the girls mom passed away of an illness and they all have different ways to cope, some don’t want to get close to people in fear of losing them while others open up because they know that nothing lasts forever. The dad however, tries his best to make them all whoever they want to be because that’s maybe what their mom would’ve wanted.
I am So appreciative of the break from apartments using TOOL. I really do love watching simmers have to work within the limitations of the space although I do understand how tiring that can be.
You are my inspiration in interior decorations, I find the way you decorate your homes so realistic, with so many personal and family objects. Thanks for another inspiring decor!

I think that maybe the mom passed away a while ago and they had to move into this apartment. But Bc she died a while ago they moved into this apartment awhile ago that’s why it’s so lived in. Maybe she died when the kids were toddlers, and the teens were kids. The kids don’t really remember there mom but it’s kind of hard for the dad to get over his wife’s death, but he doesn’t show it. Also the dad hasn’t started dating again Bc it’s hard for him to get over his wife’s death. He’s tried, but it was to hard for him.

Your builds are beautiful!! Something I’ve made up is that the girls sit at the dining room table, and dad sits on the couch and eats with them!!
This is a very cute idea, but the thought about sharing such a small apartment with 4 children feels super stressful 😆 Vibing so much with the twin in the lower bunk. 😊 Also I notice you tend to love to make room for twins, which is super cool and cute and no disrespect whatsoever. But how about making a room for triplets? Opposite triplets or maybe step-siblings who suddenly had to move in and share a room because their parents got married, but neither of the stepsiblings can stand each other.
New step-siblings that have to share a room would be fun!
The stepsibling idea sounds great. Maybe even 4 kids, two teen girls and two children boys (or the other way around), one teen and one kid from the mom and one teen and kid from the dad. One of the girls a drama queen and one a tomboy, one of the boys a genius nerd and the other an outgoing sports fan.

Your builds are all amazing you should be a architect/interior designer.
My take is that the parents started fighting a lot because the mother was an alcoholic and wasn’t getting along with the children, wasn’t going to their events and was over all a bad mother. Eventually they all had enough and the parents divorced, the dad got custody and he’s now doing his best to make their life better for his daughters.
The tomboyish daughter always got in trouble for being different then their sisters and was always being told to wear dresses and was compared to their sisters.
Literally my life aha mom's an alcoholic so dad raised 5 kids by himself

This is just reminding me of my current Sims 3 family. Although not exactly the same, I’m on gen 8 and my current sim has 6 kids. 2 pairs of twins and two who aren’t. 4 boys 2 girls. All share a room together with 3 bunk beds

At this I almost cried cause my dad is a single dad I mean we are two boys and me a girl and the dads room reminds me so much of my dad
haha, when I lived with my parents we are with 5 people in a very small home with one bathroom. So yeah, I understand the 'fight'. We even had some sort of schedule in the morning when everyone has to go to work and school.
we used to have 6 people in one bathroom before we moved, it was hectic expically since we all had to be somewhere early, either school or work. Now we have a bigger house with 3 bathrooms but def understand the 'fight' aswell
I'm not really sure, but it gives me the feeling that the mom passed away after the youngest two were born of some kind of complications of birth and the father is struggling with grief and wants to be their for his daughters because they don't have their mom. But he's stressed out from working hard to give the kids the best life possible.

Build suggestion: single father with 3 daughters and 1 son. I imagine the teen daughter to be a tomboy, the middle daughter to be a girly girl and the younger girl and boy to be twin toddlers. Their mum died when the toddlers were babies
I think when they were younger the mom and dad had dreams of a glamorous life. He was gonna be a famous writer and they were gonna have money, but it didn’t happen fast enough. The mom didn’t really love the middle class with a family life, so she simply just left to find something more glamorous. Her children have that same glamorous lifestyle gene, but being raised by their father has helped them to become more balanced and realistic humans.
This is basically my house but it’s different cause I have my 2 brothers and my sister, my mother, my grandmother and my two uncles in it. 😭
we have like 1 bathroom but the toilet, shower and sink are all separate by a wall. There is 4 bedrooms, I share with my grandmother, my sister shares with my older brother, my mother shares with my younger brother, and 1 of my uncles have his own bedroom and 1 sleeps on the couch, but that’s just because he isn’t here all the times, it’s mostly twice a year. My kitchen has a wall between the living room and the dining room.
Anyways I just realized how packed my house is 👨🏾🦯👍🏾

The only thing what I find a bit funny is that there aren’t enough seats for all the family members 😬 and maybe you could’ve fitted in a second toilet instead of the closet. But it’s just my opinion, your builds are still always awesome, it’s always a pleasure to see you make them ☺️
Also, if the family was form Spanish descent, you could name the tomboy kind of girl Valencia. It means brave and strong, and has a good meaning to it.

My dad was a single father because my mom passed from child birth. And he had 3 daughters I think this is a good fit

When you spoke about the personalities of the kids and said that one of the young girls has a tough exterior I thought that the reason could be that that she knows more about what happened to her mom than her sisters. Maybe she caught her cheating and she and the dad didn't tell the other girls because they shouldn't think bad about their mom.
Or the mom died in an accident and the girl in the top bunk was the only one who saw it because the mom picked her up earlier from school because she was sick.

I still use the big ones just to scatter them around so I can see, then either size them down or change them for the small ones when I decide where I want to place them after furnishing

For the string lights with pictures: I always imagine the children are the teen or adult sims as a child
I think that the dad works for the power of his town so he can mainly work on his house and refuse to raise people's bills so his old wife got mad about that and he doesn't earn enough money so he kicked out him and there 4 daughters and ever since they moved out they came a little bit more wealthy and his ex wife is crawling back but he already has a girlfriend and he's planning to propose and the 4 kids love her and carnt wait for her to move in
It's just an idea I think you should play through this family :)

The mom either unalived or went for the milk and never came back.
Backstory idea:
The dad and the mom were college sweethearts, they lived in this very apartment. Before graduating college, they had the first daughter. Then surprise! They had daughter #2 just a year later. Dad quit college to get a full time job. Mom worked at a diner while still going to college. 4 years go by, mom had completed her college degree. She then found out she was pregnant with twin girls. Unfortunately, she developed preeclampsia when she was only 30 weeks pregnant. They did an emergency C-section. The twin girls were perfectly healthy, but the mom did not make it. Fast forward 9-10 years. The older girls are now 15 & 16 and the younger girls are about to turn 11. Dad never wanted to move out of the apartment that him & his college sweetheart grew up in. He plans on saving until the older girls turn 18 and will hand the apartment down to them, and move into a small home to raise the twins and later on retire.
Imaginary sim works at the groceries store ( In SimLicy's head ) ALSO SIM HAS MASSIVE HOUSE LOL LOL LOL
