@@chelseathebest3346 I just went with variety of genres. I have more respect to films like There will be blood the lighthouse Tree of life but Cinema Is beyond that. Dark Knight was one of the best in its genre. It lacks some character development. But many ironies in human nature through action are well explored

It definitely should be like #27 on the list for sure. It’s NWR’s Masterpiece. But, what always makes me mad about the beginning chase scene is when he’s spotted by the chopper the camera in front the car shows cars going the same speed as him when he’s supposed to be flying by them going really fast. It always bothers me because it’s such a flawless chase scene besides that part. It would have been such an easy fix too I don’t know why they didn’t fix it. Budget I guess.

Thank you for this list a lot! First time I saw someone do this. However, if I may share some opinions ... The low res clips really don't do justice to the movies themselves. A lot of the brilliants shots with wonderful atmosphere end up feeling like something from a home video. Plus the titles of the movies really shouldn't occupy such a significant part of the screen. Why not make it a fade in / fade out in a corner?
Thank you! Some of the clips are low resolutions because, first of all, they just are quite cheaply made movies and so therefore, that's just how it looks, and second of all, it's quite hard to find specific scenes you want, in HD. For example, for Inherent Vice, I know I wanted that scene because it's the funniest thing in the film. I could have got a random scene in HD, but I wanted that one. However, the only one I could find was pretty bad resolution, but I just went with it anyway. When/if I do another list like this like Empire's top 100, all of those films are going to be very popular and therefore there will be loads of clips on youtube in HD.
Was that opening in the style of Birdman? Ironic since it didnt make the list, sadly. Also, WALL-E being the highest ranked pixar film followed by Inside Out makes me quite happy.

I'd like to submit a couple honorable mentions:
Predestination (Ethan Hawke, Sarah Snook) profound and compelling look at time travel paradox.
Also, Generation War. I know it's considered a miniseries, but I look at it as one long, provocative story of teens caught up in Germanys WW2. It deserves to be recognized.
Dark Knight is only 33????? And they completely snub Whiplash and La La Land????

Just going to compile all my thoughts here, this is a pretty decent list:
- Surprised seeing Inside Llewyn Davis at 11, but not upset. I actually think it's better than No Country.
- The top 3 is pretty predictable but not upset.
- Yi Yi in the top 10 is based as fuck. Such a special movie to me.
- The Tree of Life is another predictable pick but a good one, though The New World is my favorite from Malick.
- I liked Boyhood but top 5 of the century worthy? It's not even the best Linkater film on the list (Before Sunset is right there).
- No Punch-Drunk Love, no Y Tu Mama Tambien, not a single Tsai Ming-Liang film (Goodbye Dragon Inn is a surprising omission), no It's Such a Beautiful Day, no Adaptation, no Wendy and Lucy, no Blissfully Yours, no Inland Empire, etc.
- I do like seeing Inherent Vice and Spring Breakers on here.
- Apichatpong Weerasethakul has three of his films on there. Living legend.
- I liked how Toni Erdmann, despite being so recent in 2016, managed to sneak in to 100. If this list was done a decade later it would be in the top 50.
- The Act of Killing is another predictable pick but a good one, absolutely insane documentary
- Seeing Moulin Rouge on there bummed me out. I legit loathed that movie.
- Synecdoche and Margaret are also great choices.
I would have like to see Arrival on the list. Or Incendies.
I love movie lists - I need to get busy seeing some of these (particularly most of the International Films).

Interesting, I try to watch movies of that list. But it is too hard for me, because many of this movies don't exist in my country (Bolivia), and in Internet is equal difficult find some titles such as Leviathan, Moolande, Melancholia, etc

When i saw the number of movies by Ang Lee, I must say that I was surprised that the Life of Pi didn't really rate a mention.
Similarly there's a mention of Todd Haynes but no mention of Mark Ruffalo's Dark Waters.
I only heard of 32 of the movies and saw just 15 of them.

Not very good so far. Hope 2020-2099 is better. Most of the best films for the 20th Century were 1920-1999. Things have certainly gone downhill since Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, Vertigo, Ben Hur, Citizen Kane, Godfather, etc.

Mandibil You’re technically right, but when people look at decades or centuries they are just looking at the number in the tens place being the same or the number in the hundreds place being the same, it makes it a lot easier to clarify. If you were to want to correct people on this, you would have a WHOLE lot of correcting to do...

I was surprised Whiplash wasn't on the list. And if I remember right, it only got one vote (and a 10th place vote at that).

And movies that are part of a trilogy always have less likely odds to make it on these lists, because people want to vote for the whole trilogy and end up voting for 0 individual movies instead, or the votes are split between the films when some people want the trilogy recognized enough to vote for them. It's weird. Trilogies also exhaust critics and they end up preferring single films most of the time anyways.
@@ethidian3444 I agree with you due to the fact that Justin Chang and Amy Nicholson had LOTR as trilogy in their top 5 of the decade in LAFCA's poll. Both of them went to vote for BBC's 21st century and none of them mention LOTR in the top 10.

Mulholland Drive is one of the best films ever made, just isn't as accessible like Marvel films, I understand what you mean but most blockbusters except Mad Max: Fury Road and Blade Runner 2049 don't have godly technical aspects like performances or an insane script because studios like the films to be easily accessible , easy entertainment = lots of money at the box office.
Blade Runner 2049 is an absolute masterpiece, the film community loves it but the general casual movie goers don't like it because it's slow , unfortunately made a loss at the box office, so there's reason we don't see big blockbusters having incredible scripts with complexity and originality because people don't like that , they want easy entertaining films that want the story to be spoon fed to them.
