- WELCOME back to Sploosh MTB! Today we're avoiding the wet trails and hitting the rocks at Michaux State Forest. We're hitting big tech, jumps, and everything in between. Come hop on the bike with me as we surf some loam and rocks at Michaux! This is also the last ride on the Santa Cruz Hightower ;).

The intro got me lol always a good time at Michaux
The last ride on the Hightower too *sad violin noises*
Like always nice video brother
Thanks Jesse!
Great video Zane! 1) Glory Hole is such a favorite--the loam, the rocks all amazing, its just the climb out that turns some riders off. 2) so glad to see some footage of riders hitting those features on Ejector better than I can (I'm walking most of them) 3) I'm running the same tire setup - love it for Michaux! 4) Whenever its rainy or wet, this is always the place to come. It drains so well up here. You don't have to ride big features or all rocks, most of the trails at higher elevations drain really really well. Glad you guys had fun!
Thanks dude, yeah all the trails were running SO well. I could have a great time here without hitting a single big feature, the terrain is so good! Ejector is really freaking fun haha, love a good gap jump.
@@splooshmtb and I remember you mentioning on one of your earlier Michaux rides about the sheer beauty of this area. I still find new trails to ride that are just amazing to look at. Hope you check out our latest video as an example of that. Something to be said too about so called "official" vs "unofficial" trails in this area. The first trail we rode was official and was all overgrown. (still a ton of fun) The "unofficial" trails are always kept in good shape and well ridden in.
@MichauxGravityRiders definitely have to check it out! Yeah since I'm not well versed here I just kept all trail info away from this video. I just want everyone to be able to ride cool trails without causing any issues. Glad to know there's so much internal support for them!
I like how Zane keeps the name secret then Mike comes through and just says every name LOL. I guess only matters if your in the comment zone
@@blaine142 between the new strava heatmaps and openstreetmaps, there are no secrets. Stoked to ride some of these trails tomorrow 8am!
nice loam ;)
I'll show you some nice loam... wait...
Fun looking trails! I've had these on my list for a few months after hiking Sunset Rocks. Guess rocks are the main theme as that connector trail from Sunset back to the AT has some monster rocks in it!
Monster rocks are all I look for in my life, that sounds like a great hike. Definitely get out here for more monster rocks!
Man, this has me itching to ride Micheaux!
Glad I can ignite that haha there's nothing like the sound of tires on loam and rock🤙🏽
You boys were smoking it. That section on Glory Hole is tough and gets even tougher as it goes, kudos for even attempting it in those slick conditions. I know you were experimenting with clips, have you made the switch yet? I ask because they really help in those slippery rock gardens. Great job on the gap jump, I want an invite the next time you boys are heading up. I need some Zane coaching. Go Ashen!!!!
Thanks Sage! Yeah that section is such a killer but I was so stoked on cleaning it. Clips are still on the gravel bike, I really need to just bite the bullet and throw em on the MTB and try it out, it makes total sense that they'd work great for tech. That gap is so good, I just needed the right run in! And yeah we thought about you while we were riding but we were supposed to ride the shed and everything in Maryland just got dumped on with rain so it was like a morning-of decision lol
The first feature on G, you need more speed. Like twice as much speed; just ram into the rock and then pivot your body weight forward and the momentum will carry you up and over that rock. You lose way too much speed to try and go slow/ can’t pedal up the rock face. I’m sorry I didn’t subscribe sooner, top notch video lol.
Dude that one is a mental KILLER. Idk why I can't just commit over the top💀 soon, soon. Thanks man, really appreciate it!
@@splooshmtb yeah I have seen plenty of people fail on it. So don’t feel bad, but the body positioning really helps “flowing” through these rock features and that flat ass rock garden after this which you got through this time
Its funny that people try to keep these trails a secret as if they are a secret. They are always popping up on trail forks and its not like the State doesnt know about them.. they have all of them mapped out.. its literally posted on their website lol. Not sure who its a secret from at this point? Other mtb bikers.. kinda selfish if you ask me.
I'm just trying to not add fuel to a fire here. If you really are curious about the route, follow me on strava and it'll be there, but for this video i opted to not add the strava link in the description.
