Marie Kondo is so right when she advises to not declutter other peoples stuff but instead start in on your own stuff and then its infectious - your mom just couldn't resist getting in on the action 😂 it looks great and your dad is so talented, loved his song at the end
It's always so interesting to hear people say they don't need to declutter, sometimes when they've never decluttered before. I think people get used to seeing their homes in a certain way, and don't think about the details of what's in their home. It just doesn't seem like clutter to them. But once they start looking with new eyes, they start to realize there really is clutter, they had no idea they had so much stuff they didn't need, or even want!
This video is changing lives! I watched it with my new roommate, who was a bit stressed and intimidated by my urge to reorganise the house, (I just moved in and it was super cluttered), but afterwards we decluttered the whole living room and she even tentatively asked me if I could help her with her room as well! And I watched it with my mom who is now so excited to start the process together :)
I like how you influenced your Mom to declutter even through she wasn't into it at the start. You did a great job! I've done this a few times in my life before moving because it HELPS a LOT.
My mom sometimes gets angry/annoyed at me cuz it can be exhausting.. i ask too many questions and wanna clean places that havent been cleaning in a long long time. Discovering old stuff that remind you of your past can be tough as well...
I did this twice in the last year because my previous employer moved offices and my parents are moving. My boss isn't attached to his stuff fortunately, he just never bothered to clean so I had to volunteer to help look through stuff or it wouldn't have gotten done. His office looked like an episode of Hoarders but at least I was getting paid. And my dad is a neatnick and both parents were proactive about getting rid of stuff so helping them was relatively a breeze.
The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning by Margareta Magnusson is the way to go. As someone who had to clean out my parent's house (dad passed, mom downsized), I can tell you it is super stressful to have to get rid of so much stuff in one go, especially when you're grieving. I have death cleaned for my kids and I continue to go through stuff every so often because I don't want them to have to get rid of all the crap I couldn't be bothered to get rid of. It's not fair to pass the burden down. My father died at 59. You never know when your time will come, it's best to lighten the load for those you may leave behind.
Gentle advice about the cloud: it won't always be there or stable. Please consider a big tb harddrive for all the files, so it's saved at least twice :)
I always watch your videos with my wife. I felt slight anxiety while watching this, and would have a tough time doing what you parents(especially your dad) did, but it gave me the inspiration to do my clothes today(which my wife told me a couple of times to do) it wents fast and im happy i did it! Thank you for you inspiration!
The ONE question I use to decide whether or not to keep something is: „Would I buy it again if I did not own it anymore?“ This question forces you to be honest with yourself. Thanks Makari for this feel-good video!🙃
That doesn't work as well for me because I'm very thrifty, also it helps me to take a while to think about whether to keep something or where's the best place to donate it.
Something in me heals when O see sweet family relationships like this. Thank you to your dad for being a great parent (and you for being a great daughter ❤)
A comment like this can't even convey to you how much I enjoyed this video. Seeing decluttering and organization makes me happy but seeing the fun and love with your dad touched my inner child. Thank you.
This just healed my father wound 😭 Watching such a cute father daughter relationship was just heart-warming! I wish I had such a nice relationship with my dad 😢
Your dad is a treasure! 🥺 I cried at the end. Seeing the transformation, you two pushing through the hard times, your relationship with each other and him singing in the end... This is so wholesome. Loved every second of this video ❤
Such a heartwarming and lovely video and very relatable because i love doing the same thing you do: help people declutter and organize their homes 💗 Love it 🌟
This is the 'bestest' video I ever seen not only in decluttering category but in general too!! Love the love and care you and your mom dad have for each other!! And I just forgot the song.... It is toooo gooood!!
This would be a series I would so look forward to! At the beginning, when your dad said he didn’t want his things to burden you or your siblings, that hit me. My father in law was diagnosed with dementia and we have been helping, then taking over decluttering his home for about a year now. Sometimes it feels endless, just when a space is cleared out, there are more boxes, papers, clothes, etc. to comb through (esp bc he kept everything) but in a way I’m thankful we got to do this now instead of when he passes since I would imagine it would be that much more overwhelming. Anyway, it made me smile to see how open your dad is and how your mom came around to it ❤
Loved this video! Would love to see this be a series with your parents or anybody else that wants your help in decluttering. I hope your parents are enjoying their decluttered rooms. It is addictive and I'm sure they will want to do more! Such a gift to themselves AND to their kids.
This was so cute to watch, thank you for sharing. Your parents are such good sports, and you did a ton of work to be proud of. I really appreciated this and I’m tagging it to share with my parents!
This is the cutest, most entertaining, heartwarming decluttering video I’ve ever seen. Love you and your family’s relationship. Makes me want to organize my entire house. Thanks!
Your videos are soo calming/healing dude Especially your charming smile is such a welcoming factor in every video and make the video such a joy to watch Whenever I see a new makari espe video I say "Hekc yeahhh"
I absolutely love your relationship with your dad! but sometimes it makes me cry knowing my dad doesn't love me as I am and I am jealous. I will live vicariously through you both ❤ Thank you for sharing your dad with us
This is such a beautiful video on decluttering. The whole process was heartwarming and fun at the same time ( unlike others). It was so touching to see what a great relationship between father and daughter the two of you have. ❤😊
5:47 love the nhaught yiii-ehht. I could see the love. 7:45 YES!! Please make this a series if all participating parties are up for it!! I’m having so much fun watching this. 9:48 that was the most pregnant pause 😆 12:26 the Music starting synchronized with that sigh! 😆 I felt that. 18:51 NOW THAT’S SYNCHRONIZED 🙌🏽 21:28 I absolutely LOVE your dad’s spontaneous song writing - the BEST lyrics and last line and I love your laughter with it. 😆 I adore your dynamic with your parents. We see you more with your dad in this video (obviously), but even with your mom’s involvement it makes me beam. I want to do this with my parents. Because like your dad said-anyone can do this!🎉
This was the best video I have seen about decluttering so far! I subscribed right away ….. it has motivated me to declutter with my daughter. Thanks so much…… I love the song !,
I love your content. Especially the videos you capture with your father. It's so wholesome and happy. I lost my father three years ago. Cherish every second you have with him.
Colour-coded, short sleeve to long sleeve. I feel so understood 🥺 I was cracking up at the doggo-destroyed hoodie. Whyy. Whyyy keeping it! 😂 I am not even 10 min in but this is so fun and wholesome to watch ♥
Oh man, I got a few seconds in, and thought, nah, don’t think this is for me…. Luckily, I kept watching, so enjoyable as your videos are, your parents are lovely, your dad ! Well, I wish I was half as cool as him. No wonder your parents produced such a beautifully charming daughter. So enjoyable, good job all!
I've been obsessed with and watching videos about decluttering and organizing for the past 5 years. I only found your channel because my daughter recommended it but now our worlds collide with this amazing video!
This was really wholesome, but I also think you have to give yourself a lot of credit for undertaking this with them. It can be full of strife and stress, and it IS overwhelming. I think it's so helpful especially for people who have been homeowners for like 30 years (or boomers in the case of my parent) to do this bit by bit and not wait until tragedy strikes and try to declutter an entire house while you are mourning. Also this has the benefit of being able to reminisce over old things you find together. Photos, clothes, memories! So many people have that huge hurdle of not being able to start / not knowing where to begin. I think there is definitely a huge market for people assisting others with their belongings. I just decluttered this weekend and honestly it makes you feel lighter and happier once it's done! Here for the series!!
What an amazing video. Thank you for sharing and the tips and hints of how to take care of business. My wife and I plan on moving to a new state in about a year and a half and have lots of stuff to go through including kids stuff as well as our own stuff and stuff from her parents that's gonna be rough for sure as both of our parents are gone. Talk about sentimental items for sure. Again thank you and your family.
Great video! It was so cute to see your Dad and you working together. He has a great personality! How he reacted to your brother on the phone at 7:07 deserves a "LIKE" on this video all by itself!
This video couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve been going over every week to help my grandparents declutter and this video helped me feel like I’m doing a good job. It can be really really hard for folks to get rid of things they’ve held onto for so long
So lovely, couldn’t stop laughing at your dads song. Also I think it’s really sweet that your mum got involved after being hesitant at first, decluttering can be emotionally tough and I think she’s brave for pushing through it. I wish I had your patience with my parents 😂😂
I was laughing at the start and then I noticed this video has a great lesson too 😊. It's so cute that you didn't like to bike before and now your "e-biking" with your dad and by yourself. Congrats on that growth ❤
Genuinely inspiring. Just bought a filing cabinet so we can sort out all our paperwork that’s just everywhere in the house 😂 love Larry. Please make this a series xx
This is the most relatable video ever! And the song is an instant classic 😂 Love that your mom wasn’t ready but caught the bug and started spontaneously decluttering too. Amazing
Everything about this was so good! Highlights for me were: - the time lapses but then they'd slow to real-time to show a funny interaction with you and your dad (my favourite was when he was talking about the boxes and how anyone could do it - I rewatched that like 10 times), - when mom got involved after she saw you guys doing it! - the song at the end - your dad is an amazing musician! Thanks for such a fun watch :)
Your dad is very sweet and patient! I don't know if I want to see a series about cleaning, I think it's more your relationship with your parents that makes this video good.
Cool Dad and your relationship is such a sweet thing. Having loss my dad when i was 13 so seeing you having that kind of relationship with your Dad is so endearing. I see Mom will eventually would want to declutter too. Great job for a daughter helping your parents. ❤️
Yes to a series! Sooooooo satisfying and I love your relationship with your folks. I am currently house and dog sitting for a couple in their 60s and I am utterly overwhelmed by the size of their home and the sheer amount of stuff. I lie awake at night dreaming of skips! I find it so hard to think and function and be creative when the surroundings are so disordered and cluttered and there are so many choices - which colander, saucepan, grater, to serve on which plate ..... when I go home I am going to clear out my already minimised small space. And I need "Larry's Lament" to accompany me. 🎵
I spent years helping my dad 'declutter' but in our case it was more about organizing and cataloguing than it was about getting rid of. He passed this year and closing his estate has been (and continues to be) A LOT! Was lovely to see you and your dad and to think back on happier times looking through from dad's stuff with my dad. Great Hank Williams remix! 💚💙💛
This video was so much fun to make - I hope you enjoy it! :) Thanks again for watching everyone and I hope you have a great weekend! :)
Thank you for these videos. They are wholesome ❤
I love your relationship with your father and how open your dad is to decluttering! The song and laughter at the end 🥹 so silly and sweet!
Took the words from my mouth 😊
I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
Am I allowed to cry when a stranger is doing something nice for their dad and he’s open minded
Marie Kondo is so right when she advises to not declutter other peoples stuff but instead start in on your own stuff and then its infectious - your mom just couldn't resist getting in on the action 😂 it looks great and your dad is so talented, loved his song at the end
Liked the video.
It's like the best combination between swedish death cleaning and the Marie Kondo method! ✨
I just learned about Swedish death cleaning! Didn't even know that what we were doing 😂
@@makariespe i thought directly in the beginning that it sounds a lot like "döstädning", didn't know it's not common outside of sweden.
Please make it a series!! Also your dad’s song at the end was so good!! 😂
I'm glad you liked it 😆
I agree it motivates me so much
I wish I had a Dad like this. People don't understand how amazing that is.
I do. We are out there, but who wants to hear about the drama, lol,
wow, the improv song was fantastic
i need dad's throwing away song on spotify rn

I like how you influenced your Mom to declutter even through she wasn't into it at the start. You did a great job! I've done this a few times in my life before moving because it HELPS a LOT.
honestly this probably is gonna go down as one of the best/most fun things ur dad has have ever done! u can see the joy he has spending time with you!
How could your parents be mad at you? You are working so hard for their benefit. What a great job!
My mom sometimes gets angry/annoyed at me cuz it can be exhausting.. i ask too many questions and wanna clean places that havent been cleaning in a long long time. Discovering old stuff that remind you of your past can be tough as well...
3 minutes in and I already feel frustrated imagining doing this with my parents...

Yes yes yes! Backups are important, especially when the main copy is on someone else’s systems
Did get a bit worried about this myself
I always watch your videos with my wife. I am the biggest fan of The Dad's Song

I absolutely loved this. Healthy decluttering. Family caring. Thank you for sharing! 💙
You did such a great job and still had fun with your parents
Loved this video! Would love to see this be a series with your parents or anybody else that wants your help in decluttering. I hope your parents are enjoying their decluttered rooms. It is addictive and I'm sure they will want to do more! Such a gift to themselves AND to their kids.

Oh my gosh, the decluttering song is absolutely golden! Your dad seems like such a gem.
Your relationship with your dad is so beautiful 🥰

It’s a great video. Your parents are great people. I really enjoyed it. Keep going girl, you have talent.
You’re an amazing daughter!
9:37 the Makari x Only murders in the building crossover was so unexpected but sooooo fitting
😏
More more more! This is exactly what i want to watch. Normal people tackling normal people problems and having normal feelings towards it
This video couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve been going over every week to help my grandparents declutter and this video helped me feel like I’m doing a good job. It can be really really hard for folks to get rid of things they’ve held onto for so long
Loved this video, one of the calmest declutterings I’ve seen. Very satisfying and inspiring!

I loved your video. Watching you and your dad was awesome! It was a fun video. Wish my husband would do this!!!!
This is just adorable!
Loved this video so much! So beautiful to see your relationship with your parents, it makes me want to do the same project with my parents
So lovely, couldn’t stop laughing at your dads song. Also I think it’s really sweet that your mum got involved after being hesitant at first, decluttering can be emotionally tough and I think she’s brave for pushing through it.
I wish I had your patience with my parents 😂😂
You & your Family are blessed! I love the song 🎶 💕
So pleased I stayed till the end, Dad's song was awesome!
Amazing
Excellent! Lots of fun… thanks to you and your Dad. ❤
Hooray! A new Makari video! 🥳 commenting as I start watching. 😂
Heck ya! :)
♥️
Your dad's song 🤣Great video as always!
Thanks becca! :) I appreciate it :)
I love you and your dad, he's fun!
I loved your Dad's openness to the process. You are all adorable. His song was SO funny. What a nice relationship you have. ❤
Great video.
Everything about this was so good! Highlights for me were:
- the time lapses but then they'd slow to real-time to show a funny interaction with you and your dad (my favourite was when he was talking about the boxes and how anyone could do it - I rewatched that like 10 times),
- when mom got involved after she saw you guys doing it!
- the song at the end - your dad is an amazing musician!
Thanks for such a fun watch :)
You and your parents are THE most wholesome. Wish we all had these kind of parent/child relationships. I’m sure you cherish yours b
I loved this so much!! Your Dads song was the sweetest! Yay for pimping out your parents!
😆
Thanks for the nice and entertaining video :) i really like the videos with your dad :))
