I'm glad that someone pointed out that Milon's secret castle on the GB HAS a proper ending. The GB also saw unique ports of Lock'n'Chase and Tumble Pop.
So basically Argonaut stoped to making football and killed the satarn by not sporting it or the snes after techmo Super Bowl released. What Jared forgot is that the nfl was better on Nintendo then sega and this was the end of tecmo as we know it
Risky Woods was actually created by Spanish company Zeus Software. They also created "Biomechanical Toy" arcade game for Gaelco, which was originally going to be called "Bioplaything Cop"
I was delighted when NSO added fire and ice. I kinda liked Solomon's key...but really got into FnI more. Playing it on switch was my first real deep dive. Those later stages are head scratchers.
I remember seeing Fire 'N Ice at the video store as a kid. My parents saw the "warning sticker" and didn't realize it was a joke, so they forbid me from playing it. Looks fun, though!
1:44 How appropriate that King Arthur's World can use the Mario Paint mouse because that big bug boss flying around totally looks like it was re-skinned from one of the Mario Paint Fly Swatter bosses xD
Inindo is one of the games I own and was waiting for you to eventually cover and/or play it. The point of playing as a general in the Koei strategy battles is to help the other daimyos take over Nobunaga's territory so you can access the final Castle of the game (Azuchi Castle). There's technically a time limit in this game where you lose if you don't defeat Nobunaga within 20 in-game years.
Elemental Master is such an underrated game, love it! I remember renting it from the video section in a grocery store back in the mid-90s and just had a blast with it. I'm big on shump type games and it was a breath of fresh air at the time, especially with the cool cut scenes!
Fun fact about King Arthur's World. There is multiplayer game inspired by this game named King Arthur's Gold which is totally free and can be found on steam these days.
Great work, Now In The 90s Team... you bring joy to so many! Also, Dylan is so consistently funny, if you guys started a series with him hosting / providing voiceovers, I'd watch it too. 🤣
Man, I LOVE Fire n Ice... and that label is there for a reason. It has very short levels that make you say, "ok, just one more" but there are over 100 levels so you end up spending hours in it.
Inindo actually has a surprisingly complex AI system for follower and daimyo behavior, especially while having an RPG built on top of it. There's a lot going under the hood that's accessible with some community-created tools.
I rented King Arthur's World multiple times as a kid, and even made it to the second world. The first world is pretty easy when you've learned how your units work, but when you get to the underworld the difficulty ramps up drastically. I loved the little men moving around in their little world, it almost felt more like a toy set than a game to me.
I also owned Milon's Secret Castle as a kid, so I feel Dylan's pain. Never got past a single stage, because I had no idea what I was doing, nor what the game expected of me. It wasn't even until the AVGN episode that I learned you're supposed to use your bubbles to find hidden doors.
"an snes rpg you never played" *me holding my childhood copy of earthbound waiting to defend it, realizes he's gotta wait 2 more years for that game to hit now in the 90s
Ooh I love Fire 'n Ice! Fun fact about that game: that's one of my Dad's favorite games. I remember when I got in to retro game collecting, I unearthed my family's video game hand-me-downs and found that game piled with a lot of other NES games they had. Out of curiosity I played it, and like clockwork, my dad started watching and said "Hey can I play this? I remember it like it was yesterday." I was like, "Sure, Dad!" thinking that he wasn't gonna remember how to play it--he got all the way to like World 6 or 7 *in one night*. Respect your elders, kids.
I'd say that it's pretty advanced that there's an RPG back then where you actually had to be careful what you say to different NPCs. That seemed like more of a concept that was bigger during the 2000s with Fable and knights of the Old Republic. Cool they actually pulled it off in the early '90s on the SNES
Y'all Fire'n'Ice is so good. I rented it probably a dozen times (probably paying more than the game cost total) when I was a kid. It blew my mind to see a map creator in an NES game and the puzzle gameplay just feels so good
Reading the comments at the end from last week's episode made me think of something else about X-Men on Genesis -- the fact that you need to reset the console means you're literally not able to complete the game if you were playing it on the Sega Nomad, because it didn't have a reset button. I suppose that also applies to other forms of emulation if you have no reset command.
Nor would you be able to beat it if your reset button is broken. Which I can say as somebody whose Genesis has had a nonfunctional reset button for over a decade by this point.
Inindo is one of those games I randomly found at my local game rental store, rented once, and got really invested into it. Never got to beat it, though; it's ludicrously hard. But the different systems that it mixed in held my interest really well.
Well, this explains a lot to me. Found "Fire'n'Ice" on an NES emulator site that seems to have been taken down at some point, and for the longest time wondered what "Solomon's Key 2" was, until the rerelease of the game on NSO and seeing it titled "Fire'n'Ice"
Wow, I haven't seen or thought about King Arthur's World in decades. That was a Blockbuster rental for us sometimes, but "slow-paced Lemmings-style puzzle game with KNIGHTS" was my whole vibe back then. My first time seeing my little armor-Lemmings could MURDUUUUR was fantastic. How wild, I don't think I ever otherwise would have lit up those old neurons ever again... but way to go, brain! Somehow and for some reason kept a whole lil' cache of memories of a 30-year-old game in there for me.
King Arthurs World *did* spawn an actual spiritual successor named King Arthur's Gold. Its an online game and took away the slow paste elements and turned it in an actual real time Strat game - and best of all, since some years its also free on steam. You might should give it a try, they even gave the whole game a close pixelstyled look like the original.
4:35 hey oh, it's my favourite SNES game. I like how it was an RPG and strategy. I've never beaten though because I had too much fun sabotaging place just to help the Daimyo Masamune rule Japan, like half the map was green, lol.😁 🤜🏻🤛🏻
While I never saw that ad, I own and play Inindo and loved the game the moment I first rented it as a kid(in which I bought it later after saving up money). A interesting thing about the game was that when it gets to the cut scene around the start of the game to where Oda was taking out the Iga clan you can get two different outcomes(though one of them I can't 100% confirm) which also changes the game flow a bit. Either he comes out unscratched but with his army greatly diminished(which seems to make him not take over provinces as quickly and often is easier to take one of his), or he comes out badly wounded but his army still huge (which I am told is supposed to mean that he is easier to beat in the end. This though I can't confirm). Also in the game it counts a day when you go out of a dungeon so if you want to get strong and not want to worry about the timer you can stay in there and grind a bit before getting out. It can come at the price of encountering some tougher people outside or get ambushed by a rather well geared assassin so you had to be careful.
Inindo is one of my favourite games of all time. I revisit it every few years and give myself challenges like uniting Japan under one Daimyo. Its a great hybrid game combining historical strategy sim and RPG. hybrid games are some of the best games, like ActRaiser!
I have to agree with the warning on the Ice ‘n Fire box: my dad doesn’t really like videogames. One day, while i was playing around the online switch NES and trying this game, my dad pass by and saw the puzzle and got intrigued. After that, each weekend my dad asked me to play one full level together until we finished the game.
Thank you so much for this amazing series! It makes me so nostalgic. Every Friday after work, I can’t wait to jump on the couch and watch what came out this week 30 years ago.
I played King Arthur's World so freakin' much as a kid, I had so much fun with it, think I still have the cartridge lying around home somewhere too. Was yet another one of the games I ended up with after lending off of a brother's friend and then never seeing them again.
"There's also a ton of strategy elements such as being careful with how you talk to NPC's as some can join your party when you've built enough trust or others will attack you for interupting their conversations" So basically it's a video game version of Twitter.
Man, I really should have bought a copy of King Arthur's World in my youth. I used to rent that game pretty regularly when there wasn't anything else new to check out at Blockbuster. Not only is the game itself a fun (if somewhat slow) puzzle-action game, it has a pretty good soundtrack, and it introduced me to Pachelbel's Canon in D. Fire 'n Ice is another game that I would occasionally rent. I loved Solomon's Key, so this game was a natural choice for me.
I remember King Arthur's World, and spent hours in it, but never beat the game. Still was fun, and due to it, I developed my Archer Defense strategy for any overworld strategy game. Like those developed by Koei.
King Arthur's world is one of those formative games I played throughout my childhood, I have memories of being 4 and struggling to do anything other than walk and sometimes spam buttons to make THE GUY! walk out. And then I'd put it away for awhile and come back, and each time I'd bring it back out I'd have a little better idea of WTF I was doing.
Some interesting releases this time! Koei games really are things that you feel like you can play for the rest of your life with how much hidden information and content is in them.
I dunno. I think a title change is in order for Dylan. Editing Co-Star Dylan? You two make a great team! Either way, if you two don't do the Ultimate Handshake from Predator if/when he makes an on-screen appearance in a future video, you dropped the ball :P
Risky Woods has such graphics who look incredibly beautiful even today! It's a unique looking style who can be only recognizable into some of the Electronic Arts games of that era, and those graphics were also the reason why we europeans loved EA games so much back on the day, especially on the Mega Drive (sorry guys from USA, that's how we call the 16-bit Sega's powerhouse).
My grandfather had an NES collection that I took and still have. One Christmas both of my aunts got this game for him and they bitched at each other for it. This is the most valuable game I own. It’s such a shame that people threw the boxes out.
I can definitely attest that the GB port of Milon's Secret Castle is by far the superior version. I had a ton of fun playing that as a kid! The NES version version, not so much...
I remember King Arthur's World! Rented it once...and that was the only time I ever played it. It was one of those "ok" games but didn't hold my interest back then. I actually have played Inindo before too. I never got that far into it though. It gave me the impress of one of those games that starts off really slow, but picks up in what you can do later, but I never went back to it.
I’ve been getting bored with all the video game channels on UA-cam I’m 44 came across this now in the 90s right up my alley feel like back there again.
Jared, that sticker is well warranted. Those puzzles are addictive...they started impacting my dreams at night... Dylan, As a fellow 5th Element fan, I just want to tell you that you're super green!
King's Arthur's World was a game the somehow got into our collective library (shared with siblings) when growing up. Don't believe I got far in it, but had no idea it supported the SNES mouse. Wish I would have known that
King Arthur's World...i finnaly found the game! I loved this one when i was a child but completely forgot the name! The image of the soldiers patroling in the tower and building the units was always in my mind but no name! Thx for remind me of it! Its emulation time :D
How is King Arthur's World considered the first stereo game on the NES? I was already rocking a stereo system during the Nintendo (mono) so I was excited to hear stuff happening on either channel. While Mario World didn't have a lot 9f stereo sound (mostly the music), it was there. If they mean first game to use stereo for location, then Zelda was doing that. Again, I was showing my friends and family how a game could shoot the sword beam from the left to right and could hear giant rolling bars on the left or right in Dungeons. Maybe they mean US company? They were the first to make surround sound (pro logic) on the SNES and even had the surround logo on the back of Starfox and Vortex another game they made. I always loved games for their sound and each system got better with each game system.
I feel that you guys unlocked a memory about King Arthur's World and I now I want to play that and Inindo because it sounds really cool. Also, Fire and ice is a fantastic game and probably one of my favorites for the console.
...Actually, my partner could've used that warning label. He started playing Fire n Ice one day and was ULTRA hooked until he beat all the stages. I mean, that game had, what, hundreds of puzzles? He'd be up for hours playing that on the Switch Online. Looked pretty fun, though. He loved the soundtrack on it (he wanted me to add that bit).
kudos about RISKY WOODS, i grew up playing it but on the IBM-PC and even today people are still discovering it and loving it and the megadrive version was a recent discovery also, good game.
A lot of interesting obscure titles in this one. Inido, Risky Woods, and King Arthur's world I'll try and hunt down. That's a pretty wacky RTS game going for a cartoony sword and sorcery theme.
Fire n' Ice reminded me of Marvel Land, produced by Namco... I don't know if it was "recent" enough you would cover it. Though there may not but much to talk about. The Milon game ? Somehow, even after discovering (with Jared's videos btw) Bonks and Master Higgins had a game of their own, it didn't click until today's Milon game, that the characters in Saturn Bomberman were from other video games... (for the commen...tors... (?) who had either games, is the girl showed with Milon in this video Kinu ?)
King Arthur's World. I actually own this game and LOVE its style! I dislike RTS games of all kind but something about this puzzle game disguised as a RTS is really fun to play! I strongly suggest looking into it as its just a fun game. SOmething completely different that hasn't really been done since its release.
I'm glad that someone pointed out that Milon's secret castle on the GB HAS a proper ending. The GB also saw unique ports of Lock'n'Chase and Tumble Pop.
Bionic Commando and Elevator Action are both significantly better on the GB than the NES
@richsmith9638I love dk 94...and by extension the first m v dk. I was disappointed they pivoted to the minis in the sequels
So basically Argonaut stoped to making football and killed the satarn by not sporting it or the snes after techmo Super Bowl released. What Jared forgot is that the nfl was better on Nintendo then sega and this was the end of tecmo as we know it
Then he talks about koei but..tecmo and koei are the same company now
I still play tecmo attack on titan I can talk
That Fifth Element reference caught me off-guard, lol. Way to go Dylan!
Risky Woods was actually created by Spanish company Zeus Software. They also created "Biomechanical Toy" arcade game for Gaelco, which was originally going to be called "Bioplaything Cop"
Now In The 90s is some frequent Friday fun.
Yup. Like TGIF on ABC back then
I love that this channel finally catching on, but always so disappointed that it ends so fast 😥
"Leeloo Dallas... and her multi-pass"
Oh, God, that had me HOWLING! Well done!
I was delighted when NSO added fire and ice. I kinda liked Solomon's key...but really got into FnI more. Playing it on switch was my first real deep dive. Those later stages are head scratchers.

Not gonna lie, Inindo sounds really freaking interesting. Definitely gonna give that one a try.
It is one of the hardest RPGs on the SNES. Tread carefully....
I loved it
Now we in da 90's
Elemental Master is such an underrated game, love it! I remember renting it from the video section in a grocery store back in the mid-90s and just had a blast with it. I'm big on shump type games and it was a breath of fresh air at the time, especially with the cool cut scenes!
Most of my memories of King Arthur's World are of the soundtrack and the first several levels because as a kid I could never get very far.
Fun fact about King Arthur's World. There is multiplayer game inspired by this game named King Arthur's Gold which is totally free and can be found on steam these days.
Inindo is legitimately one of my favorite SNES games. Such an under-rated gem of an RPG!
Hey, no sports game this week. Finally, a breath of fresh air.
I remember renting King Arthur's world as a kid and never being able to make it past the first level
Lucky…. I never being able to make past the title screen . I misplaced my SNES controller. 😢
The bit about returning King Arther's World hits home with memories of guilt and disappointment anytime you returned a rental before it was due.
Now In The 90s What A Series I’ve Been Here Since The Start Thanks Pro Jared And Dylan For Your Dedicated Work
Inindo actually has a surprisingly complex AI system for follower and daimyo behavior, especially while having an RPG built on top of it. There's a lot going under the hood that's accessible with some community-created tools.
Yeah, Koei's games at the time packed a surprising amount of depth into 8- and 16-bit carts.
I remember renting the crap out of that game... It was really awesome to play back in the day, but I never got anywhere far back then...
I rented King Arthur's World multiple times as a kid, and even made it to the second world. Geeze, we'll be seeing PlayStation games by that point, won't we?

I suffered like G did.
Ooh I love Fire 'n Ice! Fun fact about that game: that's one of my Dad's favorite games. Standard episode until that Fifth Element crack. Bravo, my boy. 😂

I just played through Fire 'N Ice! It really does hold up!
What a wonderful day to celebrate a Friday night is watch this amazing content, and I gotta say I always going to enjoy this a lot.
Inindo is one of my favorite games, honestly. I always wanted to learn Japanese just to play Koei games properly on PC
Y'all Fire'n'Ice is so good. I rented it probably a dozen times (probably paying more than the game cost total) when I was a kid. It blew my mind to see a map creator in an NES game and the puzzle gameplay just feels so good
We rented Inindo a whole bunch back in the days, it was such an amazing game!
Reading the comments at the end from last week's episode made me think of something else about X-Men on Genesis -- the fact that you need to reset the console means you're literally not able to complete the game if you were playing it on the Sega Nomad, because it didn't have a reset button. Inindo is one of those games I randomly found at my local game rental store, rented once, and got really invested into it. Never got to beat it, though; it's ludicrously hard. But the different systems that it mixed in held my interest really well.
Well, this explains a lot to me.

Loved Inindo and King Arthur's world as a kid. I was the only kid I knew that loved KOEI games.

I love this series so much!
4:40 Inindo way of the Ninja I LOVED This Game !! As a Kid used to play this for hours just grinding to get more powerful oh the memories
My dad and I were big fans of Solomon's Quest, the Game Boy entry in the Solomon's Key franchise.
Inindo is one of my favourite games of all time. I revisit it every few years and give myself challenges like uniting Japan under one Daimyo.
Its a great hybrid game combining historical strategy sim and RPG.
hybrid games are some of the best games, like ActRaiser!
I love this. Every Friday night I go drinking with the boys and when I come back I know this is waiting for me. Again, love it!
Man I played so much King Arthur's World as a kid. It was so unique and quite challenging.
I'd never even looked at a game called King Arthurs World if not for this show... And it actually looks pretty neat!
I played so much of King Arthur's world. Never thought i would hear about this game!
Thank you so much for this amazing series! It makes me so nostalgic. Every Friday after work, I can’t wait to jump on the couch and watch what came out this week 30 years ago.
I can’t believe they didn’t spend more time on Elemental Master. That soundtrack is BANGING
I played King Arthur's World so freakin' much as a kid, I had so much fun with it, think I still have the cartridge lying around home somewhere too. Was yet another one of the games I ended up with after lending off of a brother's friend and then never seeing them again.
Niche game and all, it was surprisingly a fun puzzle game. Great episode as always 👍🏼

Some interesting releases this time! Koei games really are things that you feel like you can play for the rest of your life with how much hidden information and content is in them.
Perfect way to kick off the weekend. Glad I got this channel recommended by the algorithm.
I dunno. I think a title change is in order for Dylan. Editing Co-Star Dylan? You two make a great team! Either way, if you two don't do the Ultimate Handshake from Predator if/when he makes an on-screen appearance in a future video, you dropped the ball :P
Yeah honestly, I like Dylan's content just as much as Jared and his contributions are great to this show! :3
HOLY SHIT! Rondo of Blood next week!
Risky Woods has such graphics who look incredibly beautiful even today! I always thought that it was clever that the Pause button for King Arthur's World was an imprint of a few Paws.
Inindo was fun. Didn’t even mention the war games aspect when talking about taking over territories.
The grind to level up is real though.
I remember King Arthur's World! Rented it once...and that was the only time I ever played it. It was one of those "ok" games but didn't hold my interest back then.

I LOVE FIRE N ICE SO GOD DAMN MUCH!
Risky Woods sounds like that one non-basic Golgari land you play on the first or second turn of a Commander game XD
"... because, in the corner, it reminds you that Aerobiz exists!" :D
Also ProJared. He does that, too.
Elemental Master has, in my opinion, the second-best FM Synth soundtrack ever, narrowly beating out Alisia Dragoon, but still not toppling Rusty.
Each week this show is a little treat.
Jared, that sticker is well warranted. Those puzzles are addictive...they started impacting my dreams at night...
Dylan, As a fellow 5th Element fan, I just want to tell you that you're super green!

They were the first to make surround sound (pro logic) on the SNES and even had the surround logo on the back of Starfox and Vortex another game they made. I always loved games for their sound and each system got better with each game system.
I loved Risky Woods back in the day! I still have my copy around, somewhere!
I feel that you guys unlocked a memory about King Arthur's World and I now I want to play that and Inindo because it sounds really cool. Also, Fire and ice is a fantastic game and probably one of my favorites for the console.
An RPG that is obscure even for Jared? Inconceivable!
I've been "buying" every game that appears on this series, glad to see a game I already had!
...Actually, my partner could've used that warning label.
Call me crazy but I was just waiting for that talking planet on Sim Earth to say "I'm Mr. Grundles!" like on that one Episode of Rick and Morty.
Holy crap, I legitimately played Inindo. I was absolutely too young, had no idea what I was doing, and hated every moment of it.
I had a similar experience with King Arthur's World. Young me never got very far legitimately, since I was too impatient/inexperienced in this genre.
kudos about RISKY WOODS, i grew up playing it but on the IBM-PC and even today people are still discovering it and loving it and the megadrive version was a recent discovery also, good game.
Awesome show Jared and Dylan, hope one day to see "Now in the 00s"
God I'll probably be 50 or 60 by then
you have our support!
The Fire&ICe Boxart could only happen in the 90s.^^
I thought the "Fire n Ice game" was the Amiga Platformer "Fire & Ice." You can imagine my surprise when the visuals did not match up at all.
I rented King Arthur's World all the time back in the day! I really loved it!
These videos are the perfect nostalgia blast to kick off the weekend! Thanks for posting!!
King Arthur's World. I actually own this game and LOVE its style! I dislike RTS games of all kind but something about this puzzle game disguised as a RTS is really fun to play! I strongly suggest looking into it as its just a fun game. SOmething completely different that hasn't really been done since its release.
