This is great, I’ve had one for years and never really understood how it works.
Would be awesome to see more of this, for example live dial in with a vocalist, curious about how that process looks like. Also, examples of how to listen for tube saturation and compression. Thanks for this great explanation.

This was super helpful. I definitely used the output just to make louder. I will think again next time. Thanks!

Thank you for posting this excellent video overview of the 6176. I bought one of these close to 20 years ago and despite it being the most expensive piece of gear in my studio I have never regretted the purchase. However, I also have UA’s Apollo interface and a couple versions of the 1176 and 610 plugins, which are surprisingly good.
I am not a professional, but have always been obsessed with studio gear and audio, and I enjoy writing and recording music.
Lately I have had a difficult time justifying keeping the 6176 considering its value. I am trying to wrap my head around what advantages the hardware version has to the plugins.
Aside from the awesome physical, tactile hardware interface- what advantage does the hardware have over the plugin? Thank you for your expert feedback!

The hardware unit always have more warmth / punch than the plugin.
You can push hardware units harder in terms of compression without sounding bad! I would recommend running tests and trying both and see which one you like more.

Picked up an Avalon it’s a very impressive tube pre I’m a Neve Shelford channel guy but for tube I have a pair of 710 TFs but after using the Avalon over the holiday break I couldn’t resist
To my ears the 610 is a very sweet sounding and useful box it beats the 710 imho

I agree the 610 beats the 710 for sure. Avalon unit is awesome I love that piece.

It reduces dynamic range, doesn't turn volume up (unless you turn it up)

What an awesome review! So complete and so simple to get. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I don't know if my ears are untrained but when I got the oportunity to watch some videos comparing dry signals and the same recording through the preamp of this unity, through the compressor and then through both of them I could not really notice a peculiar difference... The sound waves did not show much of a difference as well. Could you please make a video showing this difference in a clear way? A dry signal recorded and the same take through the 6176 showing the undoubtful "touch" of it to the signal? If you have already a video like this or know about something on that way and could share the link I would really appreciate. Thank you so much again.

@@fadygergis Sennheiser HD450 headphones. Not the best ones but pretty fair, I think?

@jaymzleutz they aren’t bad! It takes time for ear training.
Keep watching stuff like that and it will
      Help your ear to train!

Hello Fady, when used in Line Mode, does the signal pass thrue the valve preamp section too ? Thanks a lot 😊

no I dont believe so. but it still passes through the tubes though for some warmth and color.
