Teaching is such a noble profession...i feel like we're creeping toward a point where the "powers that be" are gonna finally screw things up so bad, and cause the school districts to be short so many MORE teachers, they'll finally HAVE to say, "hmmmm, maybe we need to get out of these teachers' way and let them...oh, i don't know...just TEACH."

And can we just speak about taking away a teacher's right to make their own schedule. Kind hierarchical structure is still hierarchy. Admin “getting into classrooms every day” doesn’t help teachers or students, it only reinforces hierarchy. Don’t enter the room unless you’re there to help with the lesson.

On one hand, I agree from the teacher standpoint. It might give me anxiety. But at the same time, to know they could come by at any point might make an impact on student behavior. Of course I also think if your test scores are fairly high, meaning students are performing where they should be, I would be willing to bet behavior's aren't a huge factor. I believe many kids get off task when they have no clue what is going on. But the presence of admin more often might help.

    • @vickicraig6803

I think admin should be in classes more, but not to judge. If there is a culture that admin is there to participate and not evaluate, that is good. Finnish schools have some super high test scores and their admin even co-teach, it is normal for them to be in and out of classes daily. NOT to judge, but to make everyone feel comfortable with them there. I would LOVE to see some admin co-teach classes! Especially the ones where the struggle is real...

They tell us where to meet, who to meet with, what to discuss and the form to fill out the minutes on! Not only that, but we get to go to meetings EVERY morning! That's in addition to the normal 1 afternoon per week full staff meeting and our weekly Focused Collaboration meeting with our grade level team to discuss DATA. (This is true.)

From a recently retire high school math teacher. To hell with those standardized tests! We test 3 graders more than we test lawyers! That is wrong. I taught Algebra 1 Honors, advanced algebra and AP Stats. When my freshmen finished Algebra 1, I would call their parents encourage them to have their student take the Jr College math entrance exam because it was a 1 time test, score stayed with them for life. All of my students passed. Do not teach to a test, the test gets in the way of learning much more difficult topics, test became a free day for my students because they were prepared. DO NOT TEACH TO A TEST! Doing so hurts students.
