    Having played the demo a bunch of times, I am optimistic about this entry to the genre. I was an avid Civ player, and one of my strongest childhood memories is the first time I tried Civ 1. For me, I dislike Civ 6. The districts and adjacencies break the game for me and aren't fun. Playing Milennia feels more fun, and has that "one more turn" feel to it. I don't end up obsessed with the perfect city placement and need to think 200 turns ahead when developing cities. I really like that nations are not deterministic and don't have pre-set parameters. You get a small early boost, then develop the nation's traits via choices as you progress. Of course, since I can only play the demo, I have no idea what happens after turn 60, so really mid-late game is a mystery. But so far, this is the most fun 4X game I have tried in a while so I am optimistic about it. And for sure, they need to rebalance raiding!

    • @Cruor34

      I was hugely disappointed by Civ 6 too. I was already really upset by the cartoony graphics, and when I was winning a game on a high difficulty simply because the AI was too stupid to move its units out of the water, that was it for me, never looked back. I REALLY hope this game has decent AI. I was really against 1 unit per tile for Civ 5/6, the AI simply cannot handle it. I was really disappointed to see this game has embark too (units just turn into boats and move into water) It's over simplified and causes the AI to do dumb crap like I described above. I have high hopes for Milenia but I think I will be disappointed. At very least, I think by 2026 with an expansion, patches, and mods it WILL be a good game.

    • @ollllj
      @ollllj 6 місяців тому

      you played civ6 wrong (as in, choosing a too weak strategy), when you ever build any city improvement or even a single district or even just a single worker or settler, because civ5 + 6 could not care less about balancing, making them literally not a 4x game, because it all about archers, because: (and in terms of districts, even barracks for archers are a waste of time, compared to just having more (and less trained archers)
      Archers are too strong, till they get upgraded to whatever replaces cheap ranged units, that do just the same, but at a higher cost (less efficiently). (mostly due to 1 unit per tile with too late merging/reinforcements)
      sufficient and cheap enough anti-archer defense is too late tech. (for no good reason)
      terrain usually too flat (never in humankind).
      Even the dumbest newbie easily wins on hardest settings as anything, by following this simple rule below in civ5+6:
      "do not build anything except archers, and (rounded up) 0,6 melee units for-each city that you besiege at the same time, so you capture them faster."
      That is all, and to be clear, we science-beeline to archers and nothing else, all else is VERY irrelevant for this.
      We do not build any city structures, and no settlers, and no workers EVER (we just capture them all the time). and EVERY captured city constantly build archers (and maybe the 0,6 melle units per besieging city)
      Spread your 50+ archers out and siege in all directions, only with archers.
      If (ocean is blocking you) you may have no choice but to get 2-6 transport-ships per coastline-with--archers-guarding-the-coast, but usually there is enough space to rush and besiege.

      Let me give you a tip: if you play wide, age of revolutions is a huge pain in the ass, and you will regret it if you don't have plenty of armies. Multiple revolutionary armies spawn around each city, so if you have a couple dozen regions (vassals included) your map will be covered in barbs. Also, each turn takes a long time to resolve due to all the barbs rushing your cities.

  • @jinxomg

    I am not interested in this at all after watching, Potato, Laith, and now you play. (I'll give you credit, you're the only one so far to mention whose actually making this game).
    From what I noticed in the start, every nation has no unique country bonuses. They are pre selected sure, but if you can just change them, then all the nations are just text files that change city names.
    There is no uniqueness to this, this game looks to be as wide as an ocean but is as deep as a puddle.
    Are there Building, units, anything that is unique to a Russia or a US in this game?
    I will say this looks like it could be a good like 9 maybe 19$ but that's a stretch, and until I know a price tag I will forever be skeptical of this game.

    • @alatamore
      @alatamore 7 місяців тому +3

      I actually prefer the system they are implementing here. I dislike the deterministic national attributes and units used in Civ. Why would a US or Germany, starting in pre-history always end up with special abilities and units in industrial or modern times? That makes no sense at all. This system has a small starting boost, which you can choose, and then as you progress, you choose the routes you want for the nation to develop. The national differentiation happens over time and is not deterministic. This avoids the whole meta-civ choice scenario and the "pay to win" DLC scenario where devs just add a new OP Civ and charge you $30 to buy it.

    • @Cruor34
      @Cruor34 6 місяців тому +1

      I get what you are saying but they are all just a text file with different city names. Does 1 - 2 unique units and 1 unique building REALLY make you feel like you are Germany or the USA? It's just names we recognize. You will build the nation you want. I will make a nation with a strong economy and focus on science that is also aggressive militarily. Same as I did since Civ 1. Animated leader heads do nothing for me.

    • @highadmiralbittenfield9689
      @highadmiralbittenfield9689 6 місяців тому

    When the units switch from over-map mode into the "battle windows/close combat view" that`s really a feature that rather brakes immersion than contribute to it. There is a reason why Civ. don`t do it. This is not a Civ. game not a real "Heroes of Might and Magic" clone aka Hex battle game. This looks rather insane unbalanced/unfinished and if they don`t focus on one or the other this game will flop for sure.

      Same, and I'm not even religious. Humankind did the same thing. No escaping it now, gotta be woke. The female scouts and evens like "you meet a leader of a warband. SHE offers to share her combat knowledge with your troops" are even more cringe. No escaping it in 2024.
