Good to see the rough-out process. Most people have no idea. This video give a glimpse into what it takes for us to produce a bowl. From felling the tree, or cutting up a fallen tree, to finished bowl can easily take 2 years, maybe even longer. Yet people still don’t want to pay the value of hand turned bowls. Thanks for taking the time to share the back story to our turning art.

Designer epoxy. Thought I was gonna be watching a woodturning video. Turned out to be a Gold Mining video. Wow…… what a stash of future beauties to come! 😊
Thank you for the roughing out videos. I have watched all of your other rough out videos, but I always seem to learn something new. Also, I would like to thank you for thinking of the unfortunate people in the southeast area of the US who have lost so much due to the hurricanes. Fortunately, I am not in that situation here in Virginia. I am very much looking forward to your next video. However, I also understand how busy you will be with the move. Please, don't overdo it. Your health is more important. Cheers!!
Designer Epoxy
Thanks for the great video Jim. The designer epoxy will definitely enhance all the 'so called flaws" left in those forms and make them into artworks.
Thanks for this video. You say you enjoy roughing out, I enjoy watching you do it, so we both win.
I can't wait to see all the beautiful items that you can make from these blanks. The big burl is going to be awesome ❤❤❤
Love all your work. I don't have to imagine slinging around wood, I very been doing that for 2 weeks getting my fire wood in. Thankful at 62 I am able to still do that, but it's a real work out. Designer epoxy. Not the worst hit is NC lots dead still buried in ud its horrible.
Love seeing 'behind the scenes', so cool seeing what the wood looks like. You are right, it is like Christmas. Some of that wood is gorgeous! ❤ Prayers for a safe move.
Designer Epoxy.
Hi Jim, omg processing is a long production line. From start to finish is about 3 yrs. Woodwork is definitely not fast process. But its a beautiful craft to do, the Wood is amazing how it grows and what nature does too. Have a good day. Take care.
Wow, the beginnings of some gorgeous bowls. Can't wait to see how they turn out!
Enjoyed the "Not so behind the scenes" views. Lots of natural beauty and character in those pieces.
1:02: stunning bowl blank! I can’t wait to see the finished product. GORGEOUS!
Love these production videos Jim!
Are you getting excited yet?
This has been a great video series Jim, it is always great to see/learn the additional aspects of the process! I appreciate you taking the time to share it with us. Designer Epoxy.
I do like the roughing out part. Trying to see the potential in what you can make from it. As always you have a talent for seeing potential. I love designer epoxy. Congratulations.
Glad to join you again this week Jim. Designer Epoxy
Behind the scenes is the best way to show how you get started on a bowl.
Hey Jim: You have a bug crawling on you . Lots of good info on the roughing out. You got some really wild looking pieces there. I guess we will have to wait a few months to see the results. Take care on the move Jim. Drive safe on the way there. PS: I am going to lose a very good neighbour.
Get to packing up your Designer Epoxy and all that wood before the snow!!
Just hurt my back processing wood … lots of work but fun to peal those big chips off the green wood!
Jim, what a wonderful cache of blanks! Really like the spalting. That big burl is something else! Good lessons on processing and safety tips.
Designer epoxy
I’m sorry to hear that your numbers were down last week. I’m not a turner or do anything with wood, but I love to watch you use your creative mind and make such beautiful pieces! The way you can look at a piece of wood and see something I can’t just amazes me. When I came across your channel I was hooked immediately!!
Be careful on your trip to the east side of your country and I hope the weather works with you not against you!! Tell your wife that she has such a talented husband 😂😂😂. I really want one of your pieces. I really liked the black one with that stuff you added to it with the purple. I think it was a commissioned piece. It was absolutely stunning!! Take care and have people help you move those big heavy pieces 😅😅😅
You’ve had a busy week, enjoy seeing the behind the scenes. Know where I was doing it wrong. Good luck on your packing and moving. Designer Epoxy
Love the grain in these pieces. Great learning session for young or starter turners! Sorry I missed the live part, have some errands to do this morning! Great job showing this to us Jim!
Designer Epoxy.. it's so nice to see some of the inside of what you do. I enjoy your channel.. I end up learning so much. Thanks Jim
Hi Jim, another cool video. I work for the State of Florida and am currently inspecting debris removal areas. I really appreciate the well wishes for us here as I have seen some serious devastation (as well as in Georgia and North Carolina). Thankfully, not much here in Jax Beach, but in the big bend area for sure. Cedar Key seems to have gotten the worst of it. I am also the safety guy so the piece of wood you have screwed onto the wall is a good reminder. Safety first!!
Good luck with your move!!!
Neil
Designer Epoxy. Like how the rough burls look, good luck on getting everything packed in time.
We found a huge truck of Manitoba maple full of burl and flame. Can't wait to get into it.
Great video Jim, hope things continue to go well with the move.
Thanks for sharing how you prepare. The preparation in most art is one of the important steps. Love to see the unique designs in the wood
Looking forward to seeing these turned into bowls!
I can’t wait to see the 70/45 lb bowls from the maple burl when they’re finished!
Great video this week Jim, helped to reinforce and or clarify some things on the processing of logs.
Still confused on the templates, I will have to mess around some more.
Good luck with the packing and move out east. It's always good to be around family.
Good show Jim.
Take care of yourselves moving.
Good luck on the move and build
Designer Epoxy
Jim well done on all these lovely pieces of wood, some great information for any new turners and not so new as not everybody get wood in that state, Lots of people just buy ready made blanks.
That was fascinating! Professor Jim at work Very cool
Thanks for the entertaining video, Jim. Love the view of the whole tool and the way you hold it and work. 😊
Love this stuff. Good luck on the move. Looking forward to the build of the new shop.
Great to get catch the premier again and overall great video!! Designer Epoxy
Great video Jim. Designer Epoxy sure changes how you look at a piece of wood. Good luck on the move. 😀
Good refresher info. Just finishes up several bowls that I roughed out last year. Designer epoxy
Thanks for sharing the prep of those future bols. It’s very interesting to see that. Hope everything goes well while moving from Ont. to N.B.
HI JIM LOVE YOUR SHOW == WOW THATS ALOT AND MANY WOODS BOWLS WOW BIG PIECS ARE MORE DANGEROUS BOWLS ARE GROWING FOR SURE LOVE THIS VIDO == SEE HOW HARD YOU WORK BYE SAFE JIM 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for the video! See you next week.
Your very skilled and you never stop surprising me, ❤
Designer Epoxy
Thanks for sharing this process, it is so interesting 😊
I am not saying you have to do this but with last weeks video and this week video you could pick out one log/bowel and do a video that follows the the whole process. I do realize the whole thing could take as long as a couple years. Just something to keep in mind for future projects
Awesome work as always. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the move! Designer Epoxy
Looking forward to seeing those rough outs turned (see what I did there...) into amazing looking bowls!
nice video sir, keep up your work with Designer Epoxy
Loved the video today!!
Very nice video, beautiful pieces of wood. good luck with move, stay safe. ❤❤
Designer Epoxy
Tons of great information thanks for sharing. Keep up the amazing work. 👽
Good morning Jim from Minersville, Pa.
Too bad we didn’t get to see the roughing out of the box elder. I always find these videos fascinating I love the see the progress from log/burl to completed piece. That might be an idea for after you move if can handle the extra editing, I would love to see a video showing the whole progress for a piece. I’m sure I’m not the only one who would be interested in a video like that
Great job.
There are some nice pieces in your stash.... I have never turned wood, and can´t because of my arthritic hands, but I like watching your videos. Sadly I live in Europe, and even if I could afford a piece, I´m sure the shipping fees would be a reason nit to buy from Canada.
Matt from Midwest Magic Cleaning gave your channel a shout-out today, he´s a fan.
The joys of preparing to move. V😊
Hey Jim! You need some new gloves. Maybe you can “lose” those in the move. Or,,,as I do with a worn out cowboy hat, we build a ceremonial fire and send the hat into the spirit world while remembering all the years we were together.
Good luck on the move and y’all travel safely!!
Any chance we can buy some Sprague Tee shirts and or caps and dewrags?
I’m going to miss the Premier. I have to catch you later today. designerepoxy.
Next time! Thanks
Can you say more about what were the difference between your typical gouge and the deep fluted Robust gouge? What do you notice as different with the deep fluted gouge?
If you are worried about bugs, place the blank in a plastic bag for shipping, That will show if there are any live bugs when you open the bag after your move.
Can black walnut wood also get spalted?
Hpoe you have help with the loading.
