  • I was riding some trails with the kids and noticed some noises that weren't good, and it also felt like something was wrong. When we got back I took a look and found the back axle wobbling around terribly. This video is the tear down, diagnosis, and repair.

The o-ring for the brake caliper mount goes inside the mount there is a groove it fits into, it's what stops the mount from rattling 👍 and the axle nut will keep coming loose until you get the aftermarket axle nut that has a jam bolt in it or you wrap electrical tape around both nuts on the axle so they cant turn loose. Thats what we do for races its cheap and quick. Aftermarket brake rotors never fit right thats why i stick with honda parts when i can because they fit the best. Idc what company it is.. except for the carrier, we use tapered roller bearing carriers because they hold up 100x better than any aftermarket carrier and that includes the double roller bearing carriers.

Where do you get those tapered roller bearing carriers? I’ve burned through a couple aftermarket.

What brand of axle and bearings are they , are they holding up so far?

I'm fixing to do this exact job. Forums have told me to use O rings, other folks told me they don't even bother.
I'm guessing they protect against mud/water which subsequently destroy the bearings in the carrier itself.
I wanna do it right, but then again, folks that have been around this sort of thing for years aren't doing it

The bearings are sealed from the outside of the carrier where the o-rings are anyway. If it needed them the aftermarket carrier would come with them.

Same thing on my kfx450r...I had to leave the o-rings out. I'm not worried about it because the inside with the bearings and spacer is sealed off from the outside where the o-rings go.

So a man could leave the caliper on and have his son hold the brake lever down instead of buying a special wrench yes or no

Or you could just put it in gear... thats what I do and it works great just remember they are reversed thread.. also you don't have to take the outer one off after removing the clip on the axle the whole thing will slide off once that clip is removed, 👍

The special tool is basically just to torque it down with a torque wrench. I just use 2 massive Cresent wrenches lol

Try using super glue to hold the O-rings in place. It works.
