I believe in my owners manual it states that it is not a primer bulb but rather referred to as a air purge for the fuel line and carburetor. I was told at the local husqvarna shop that it does not directly squirt fuel into the cylinder like a traditional primer bulb would and that all you need to do is push it until you feel/hear/see that the bulb is full of fuel like this gentleman does in the video.

first engage chain brake, choke on, purge/prime bulb, put saw on ground and pull till it fires ,release choke pull again saw starts and runs, release chain brake and let run on heavy idle for 30/40 seconds , no the chain wont be flying around at speed like a standard saw .then bip the throttle and it will idle correctly. computer needs this time to check, fuel mix, temp, air etc. Safe sawing from Ireland

Hey quick question, what is the little grey thing on the top of the cylinder head? Is it a compression release or what?

Are you talking about the cover? All the XP models have that. It doesn't really do anything other than identify it as an XP

@@ivanurban2383 Alright on my husqvarna 450 I just push it down you can pull it up if you change your mind all you have do do is push down then pull the recoil and when the engine fires up it automatically pops up again and then you can use the chainsaw

Mine is such a RPITA to start when it's hot that I'm replacing it with an Echo CS501P!

My 550 Mark 1 was also gard to start warm until I reread the owners manual and found out it has a starting procedure for warm engine. Was very easy to start after that. I would assume the Mark 2 has someting similar.

I have a 4910 with exhaust work and limiter removal. It starts easily at any temperature. You won't be disappointed with the 501p

Now show us when it's hot after several cuts! People seem to complain hard to start hot!

I haven't experienced this saw being hard to start after running for hours. I have a few videos that show me running the saw and starting it after it was hot.

Thanks for the video. I own one of these and through trial and error, discovered this same starting procedure. It works every time if you do it this way. Best saw i ever owned!

Did you read the owners manual? There is a special procedure for hot start described on page 13 ”to prepare start with a warm engine”.

The 562 had some hot starting issues. I have a 545 mk2, not the 550xp, but it starts hot fine. It's an awesome saw...probably my favorite and I also have a 572 and a 592
