Everse 8 is great! viewer comment: Compared to Everse 8, Bose S1Pro Plus does not sound as loud, but with higher fidelity in reproducing small nuances. Bose is more accurate and musical. Everse is more assertive, punchy and creates more rumble. Moreover, the difference in sound accuracy is also noticeable at low volumes for the room. All this is a pure comparison without tones and equalizers. Due to their presence in Everse 8 (two 7-band graphic and parametric), it wins. Suitable for any working conditions in any room or outdoors. If you wish and know how to use equalizers, you can customize any sound to suit your taste. Bose has no equalizers, just regular bass/treble tone. But out of the box at normal volume it sounds more pleasant to the ear (at least for my personal one), more natural than Everse 8.
The key features are its weather resistant (rain) and has a long run on its own battery (6 hours at a recent pool party at near max volume) (the battery, is small and light and also easy to swap with a fresh battery if need be). It brings a big sound to anywhere without worry of a sudden downpour. Yes, you could use a portable battery pack with most other speakers but you loose the weather resistance and have another heavy piece of equipment to carry. The Everse 12 is an all in one solution. This speaker weights 31 pounds and is just a bit slimmer and still about 10 pounds lighter (with battery installed) than a QSC K12. I will be using this for outdoor Ceremonies and Beach Ceremonies where the sound of the surf can drown out smaller speakers, pool parties and remote outdoor cocktail hours. It will also be nice having in my kit in case of power outage to keep the party going. It does have a deeper low end (bass) and gets louder than its smaller brother the Everse 8 (which I also own & love), the trade off is, it is 14 pounds heavier than the Everse 8.
I love the Everse 12. I use it for restaurant and coffee shop gigs and it’s just perfect. A great sound and the App makes it perfect to adjust on the fly. 👍🏽
Very detailed review of the EV line: This review is from someone who owned the previous generation EV ZLX-12 BTs. I bought the G2's because one of my older ZLX-12 BTs was starting to fail. The G2 improves the best-selling PA speaker ever (> 1 million ZLXs sold), and the G2 is the same price. The ZLX-12P-G2 has lower bass response, 54-18.5k Hz vs 65-18k Hz for the ZLX-12 BT (at -3 dB). I do notice slightly improved bass response, but let's be honest, no 12" PA speaker is going to provide heart pounding club-style bass, you simply need a subwoofer for that. The G2 has plenty of bass for my live band application and does fine for playing music during breaks. A huge improvement on the G2 is a digital mixer, controlled either by the Quick Smart app or the new color back panel. The app is a strong point for the G2. You can download the app for free and put it in demo mode to see what features various EV speakers have. The app can control up to 6 speakers at once, adjusting volume and EQ for your entire system. New for the G2 is 3 channel EQ for each of the 3 channels plus a 7-band global EQ. There are also a bunch of effects. I tested a couple of the reverbs, and they seemed fine. Channels 1 and 2 have combo XLR/TRS inputs with profile presets for things like line, mic, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, etc… Channel 2 has an additional input jack for a Hi-Z guitar. I was able to use both an XLR mic and a guitar on channel 2 at the same time, however, as expected, you have a shared preset and EQ setting. Let's talk about Bluetooth. My ZLX-12BTs had un-usable Bluetooth. At just 10' from the speaker, moving my phone would cause breaks in the sound. It was so bad for me, that I just used a cable. The G2 removes the 3.5mm input jack on channel 3, but it's OK. The G2's Bluetooth is FABULOUS; it's BT 5 vs. BT 4, and I can get 40+ feet away from the speaker with my Iphone 15 Pro and have a solid Bluetooth connection. Another nice Bluetooth feature is TWS, True Wireless Stereo, you can Bluetooth from your phone to one speaker, and then the first speaker will connect to the second speaker over Bluetooth i.e. stereo operation with no cables. TWS only works for Bluetooth Audio; a mixer needs to connect to both speakers with XLR or TRS cables. The G2 is rated at 127 dB vs. 126 dB for the old one. SPL readings are taken with pink noise at 1m. I ran a simple, non-scientific experiment to measure real-world SPL numbers using music, without hitting the red limit on the display or the red limit light on the app. I played a bass heavy song, "Where the Boat Leaves From" by The Zac Brown Band; EV used this song to compare various EV speakers at NAMM a few years ago. I had the speaker on a tripod set to music with all EQ flat. I used Sound Level Meter, a free Iphone app and measured 106 dB at 1m and 101 dB at 15'. These numbers may seem low, but trust me, this is LOUD; I wore Ear Peace Ear Plugs during the test and would not want to run the test w/o hearing protection. I think a pair of G2 will handle my live sound needs for my 5 piece band playing for up to 200 guests. The G2 has a new "kickback" feature that allows you to tip back the speaker while on the floor. This helps when you are busking or simply don't want to set up a stand for a smaller gig. Kickback worked well for me on a hard floor, but the speaker fell backwards when set on padded carpet. I visited Sweetwater to compare the ZLX-12P-G2 to the ZLX-15P-G2, as well as the Evolve 30M and Evolve 50m. My thoughts: • The ZLX-15P-G2 had better bass, but it is heavier and more expensive. • Both G2's had a slight "nasally" tone that seems common with plastic vs. wood cabinets. This was only noticeable with a direct A/B comparison to either of the wood based Evolve systems. • The bass on the Evolve 30M was a little better than the ZLX-12P-G2, however, the G2s go much louder. • You can get a pair of ZLX-12P-G2s and a small Mackie mixer for about the same price as the Evolve 30M with it's built in mixer. • I expected the bass on the Evolve 50M to be much better than the G2s or the Evolve 30m, and it was. • It surprised me that the highs on the Evolve 50M were also much better than the Evolve 30M or the G2s. To be fair, the Evolve 50M is much more expensive. In summary, I'm happy with my ZLX-12P-G2s and would recommend them.
Planning on that video! Heads up though, 12" speakers have very good bass but adding a small 12" sub like Bose Sub1 or EV ELX 200-12 is next level performance!
Great review as always. EV! Why upsize one that works so well? It is like making a mini cooper a van, it is counter-intuitive. I am a family-friend DJ. Two 8's are better than one 12 for me, because of flexibility. I can place the 8's separately anywhere in my small car, or use 1 if small party. Two 8's provide even, stereo coverage, back up each other if one fails, and most importantly for the aging baby boomers, the unit weight. :)
Thanks for the compliment! Agree with everything you say for DJ application. For the person looking for a single speaker that is the loudest battery option out there and significant full range sound improvement over the EV8, EV12 is a big step up! That is if size/weight isn't a factor. Of course if using a sub, the better midrange and low end of the EV12 is then not really noticed.
I am listening! I have been looking for this video ever since you said you were getting one! I am definitely going to get one so i can compare it to the soundboks. I am also excited to see how this speaker sounds over the ELX200 12SP. And i with definitely stay in the gym 🏋️♂️ 💪. LOL 😂
This viewer comment applies equally to the EV12: The Everse 8 does need to be dialed in for great sound. It's not bad out of the box for such a light weight portable speaker. If you have the time and patience, it can sound pretty darn incredible and far surpasses anything in its lightweight, battery powered, wireless, portable PA class.
Positive viewer comment: After rigorously testing the Electro-Voice Everse 12, a 12-inch 2-way battery-powered PA speaker, for several performances and events, I am beyond thrilled with its exceptional capabilities. This speaker has completely transformed the audio experience with its crystal-clear sound projection and robust build quality. From the moment I powered it on, the Everse 12 impressed with its deep bass response and pristine high frequencies. The volume output is astonishing for its size, easily filling large venues without any distortion. What sets it apart is its battery efficiency; it reliably delivers hours of performance on a single charge, a crucial feature for any mobile entertainer or event organizer. The portability of the Everse 12 is a game-changer. Its lightweight design, coupled with a solid, easy-to-grip handle, makes transportation a breeze. Setting it up is just as effortless, allowing me to focus more on the event and less on technical setups. Connectivity options are ample, with Bluetooth functionality that pairs seamlessly with various devices, providing a hassle-free connection for playing music or amplifying voices. The intuitive control panel and comprehensive input/output options cater to both novice users and professional sound engineers. In conclusion, the Electro-Voice Everse 12 stands out as a powerhouse in the realm of portable PA systems. Whether for indoor conferences or outdoor festivals, this speaker delivers unmatched sound quality and reliability, making it an essential tool for anyone serious about their audio setup. It's not just loud; it's clear, it's versatile, and most importantly, it's dependable.
How does the Everse 12 sound compare to something we all know, like the K10.2 or 12.2? I understand it's less powerful than the QSC family, but how about sound quality at 90 dB. The weight is about the same as 10.2, which is why I ask.
Viewer comment on EV12: Amazing speaker for what it is! It's not QUITE on par with a QSC K12.2...but it's close. And, you know...the whole battery thing.
