Build a base for your island and get it to the height you are comfortable with. To do anything less is a disservice to your level of professionalism. I love your kitchen and am so happy for you.

Gaz ive watched you for years.... This beautiful and excellently thought out space is perfect for you. And the gratitude just oozes out of you. Im genuinely so proud of you and so encouraged for this next season with this exquisite space. Ive been in gardening and food forestry for nearly two decades this year and my husband just built my dream island to help accomodate the harvests better. Just that one piece took so much TLC, i cant imagine the entire kitchen. Being created with this in mind. Congrats!!!
Your dream kitchen sounds more like a “look at my toys I found” except your passion isn’t cars it’s old pottery the feel of a room. I love how you express your self it’s a different version. Your kitchen is pure perfection. I love how it is full of beauty, quality and character. When you surround yourself with beauty and quality, it inspires you and helps to push you towards new creative heights. That Parisian island is stunning and I love how the scuffs on the front of it sort of match your “June” painted walls. I mean, how great is it to have June colored walls?! Peace and beauty are just dripping down in this kitchen. Even when you are in the midst of filming, or frenetically cooking for a large party, there will be a part of you that is still, calm, and quiet. This kitchen is a dream! I thought a nice solution to the backsplash would be to get some vintage/refurbished big tiles either leaning (if they were large floor tiles) or on the wall so they are easy to clean but make a nice statement
Why do we all LOVE Gaz soooo much!!! Humble, sweet, romantic, joyful, funny, creative and just an all round loveable guy. AND what a kitchen!!!! It would absolutely be my dream kitchen too. Looks like a Tuscan kitchen. Love it! It would look really awesome with a handpainted Italian tile mural behind the stove, with painted veggies or something like that.
Practical and aesthetically-pleasing is the best kitchen combo. And the green color with the warmth of the walls makes it a soothing and calming place to be.

Your beautiful kitchen gives very strong Tuscan vibes. Loved the beautiful green you've used and the overhead windows are so well thought out allowing loads of natural light to come into the kitchen. The flower painting goes so well with the overall theme of the kitchen. You're one lucky bloke to have been passed on 'Qettle'. Would love to have one in my kitchen too. Its such a joy to see you so joyous.

This made me cry. So beautiful and such a great expression of you at this time, I’m homeless, living with relatives, so totally safe and sound. Haven’t had my own home for almost 9 months. It seems like longer, haha. Anyway, your video gave me hope for a kitchen of my own, that it can be made in a way that looks like it has been there for years. I love the look! Gaz, to protect the paint against splashing you could use wall varnish. I have colourless one with a matte finish in my kitchen but there are also glossy versions. It's grease-resistant, almost invisible and easy to clean.

I’ve never cared for any kitchen but I’m in awe of the quality of materials used…I do love real wood and concrete. Your walls make me think of traditional mud huts here in South Africa, they tend to be lime washed in earth colours. Like wash is more organic and natural than paint I believe
Gaz i love your kitchen, its incredibly personal, homely and natural! my absolute dream! if you find you need a splashback, making and glazing your own ceramic tiles in a local studio would add another personalised touch or re-purposing vintage tiles you find at markets/fb marketplace 😊🌿💚 (it would also be fun to make your own ceramic dinnerware!)

For backsplash you could do a thin copper plate to stay consistent. But a simple stainless sheet could match well also, in line with that fantastic stove you got there.
The best part is seeing your joy in your lovely new space! We bought a house 3 years ago and changed nothing because everything is working and functioning and didn’t want to spend on aesthetics but you inspired me to go ahead and make it something that sparks joy and pride.

You're off to an awesome start, Gaz. When first saw you in this space, a video or two before this one, my first impression is that it is an authentically old kitchen. You've got this, Gaz! Great job! 👨🍳
SUGGESTION FOR BACKSPLASH: try a copper plate, rectangular, that copies the colour of your pots, or, a silver-rustic metal plate, that can be affixed to the wall. It blends in, doesn't look modern and is certainly unique. Old kitchens used to have them but a rectangular plate that isn't too reflective, may fit perfectly with your current style. It bring together the back hanging pots and the large dark wood centrepiece. SECOND OPTION: Since you loved your visit to Mexico, a rectangle of pottery coloured tiles ( maybe just 2 or 3 rows). Or, blue/white Moroccan or Turkish patterned tiles to represent the variety of spices you blend so often. Neither is expensive and both styles complement all the design choices already there, without being too "sci-fi." Best of luck, from LA. Ciao!
Your kitchen is beautiful and I am sure it fits in wonderfully with your homestead in your hills winding Wales it will age gracefully with each of your meals...gosh hearing you describing your vintage finds, market adventures and your love of aged textural goodies...it's a shame Gaz I think we could of been soul mates but shame your 20 years to young your love of linen sheets got me. Polyester sheets is a deal breaker.BTW that hair is awesome.

I like the kitchen island. If anything you can throw I nice thick butcher block on top to elevate the surface for much cheaper than a whole new kitchen island. ✨

For the backsplash, you could put up a clear laminate to keep the esthetic until you find something better. It would be easy to wipe in the mean time should anything get back there.
I also love the hot water tap for rapid hot water especially with it being filtered.

Yes, you could do homemade, but there are some that can be purchased almost like a wall paper that can be peeled that you could put up easily with an exacto-knife or X-Acto-knife. They are actually fairly cheap as you can get the laminate and exacto/X-acto knife for about $30 or less which is around £24 or less depending on how much you need. The back splash may also be called wall protector. It’s a cheap easy solution until you find something you like better in the kitchen. 😊
I think it's a good mix of modern, convenient while keeping a very rustic theme! Most importantly, it works well for you and energizes you when you are in the space!! Awesome job customizing it to what you want!

I’m blessed to have been grateful for the cooking I did today too and I realized I used to write letters on how I served up the foods I did once before in life as well too! Shared it with people and found some relaxation with all of that as well too!

I love the kitchen, very warm and it looks like an old movie set or the hobbit house. I would definitely keep the island. If you feel it is to low, raise it and try and salvage the trim piece at bottom to cover the feet that will elevate it.

I love your kitchen and adjoining working spaces. The cabinetry is beautiful (green is my favorite color). It's a perfect mix of old and new and is classic through and through. I have been on the hunt for a vintage circular window for my kitchen to free up some wall space. If your future wife is smart, she'll allow you to keep those rings.

The kitchen is gorgeous. If you want to keep the same plan with using cutting boards behind the stove, I think you could. You could collect some rough or damaged vintage cutting boards and cut them into small tiles and attach them to the wall like a tile backsplash made of rustic wood. The difference in thickness of the tiles would add an interesting texture. Only if you are concerned about that wall getting greasy or discolored. It's an absolute dream kitchen. You're such a lovely person, I am so happy that you got this excellent space to work and present from.
