Guard Retention in Stages: 3 Ways to Retain & Recover Your Guard (No Gi BJJ)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 лис 2021
- All guard retention techniques focus on leg position and, at their core, keeping your legs between you and your partner. In this session Shintaro and I look at 3 situations: first, dealing with a no gi toreando variation, where you lose the battle for the kneeline; next, when your back is exposed from either toreando or a kneecut; and finally when you find yourself on the end of a leg drag. In each of these, we use both our upper and lower body to regain the inside position, manage the distance and get back to a place where we can begin to attack.
There always are a number of retention methods you’ll use during the course of a training session, so becoming familiar with the core methods for maintaining distance, recovering from back exposure and dealing with a dragged leg will be very important the more you work your open guard.

Powerful and concise as always. Is there still an instructional on the horizon?
Yes - thanks for asking! Underway as we speak 😊
@@bzglick could you disclose what it would pertain to whatsoever?
We have a few topics - what do you want to see?
@@bzglick I’m curious what to see your complete take on passing with leg locks and how you further blend stand up with guard
Beautiful fluid movement
Beautifully broken down and simplified! 🙏🏼🙏🏼

This is concise précise and ultra wise.
Frames against an in coming shoulder

Shintaro with the Derek Brunson pose
😆
Excellent stuff! Just wondering for a future vid if you could cover maintaining mount agains an opponent going for single leg x by kipping escapes or by wrapping their legs around my torso
Underhook and stay chest to chest is your answer
Yes 👍
I would love to attend one of your classes!
😊😊😊
👍🏻👍🏻
🙏🏼
Thanks professor!
Quick question.. on the first method where you post on the shoulder and elbow… is grabbing the wrist (rather than the elbow) not more effective here? I’m sure there’s a reason.. was just curious since we were looking at this in our class a few days ago. Many thanks for all your content!
Not wrong - but catching the wrist is a little trickier 👍🏼
is stretching the key? I have been doing bjj a long time and I just can't get my body or legs to move like that. I think I can't easily get my feet to touch the mat behind my head
High-legging, cross-stepping and framing for leg pommeling would be better choices if your flexibility doesn’t allow you to get up onto your shoulders 👍🏼
@@bzglick thank you so so much for the reply! It is actually kinda hard to find a video on high legging tho i have heard it mentioned on bjj videos - never at my gym. I searched highlegging on youtube and just found videos of really hot girls. Is there a high legging link you could recommend? After watching your video I have been dedicating myself to stretching and getting better at staying on my shoulders and rotating and trying out lots of movements and I see progress.
@@justaname935 lol ok - maybe time for me to do a video on high-legging 😊
@@justaname935 this one covers some basics:
