This is a forgotten or unknown mechanic in the tripod sweep, the pressure down on the thigh, esp if the opponent has longer legs or even the same length, pushing back isn't enough if they want to stay standing. Just like running the pipe with bicep pressure.
would the key be more timing and feel. what would prevent them from back stepping to keep balance. most sweeps require an interference with both of the standing persons' legs or feet

I used to do tripod sweep all the time when I trained back in the days, this looks similar!!

back on the old days we use it as "tripod nº2" on spider guard... when we did nº1 1 and partner step over the take up leg, we did this one
