The arm is going nice, good improvement, I think you can put in mind your legs position, and foot work, when you place movements you probably noticed that you have started doing mistakes, that’s normal because you need to set your body in the right position, so foot working is imperative to practice, add split step in your trainings, you already have a level to start that. Keep pushing bro!

Your forehand looks quite good. One thing you could do is to simply be aware of what type of mistakes you tend to make. Is it a lot of balls in the net, wide or long? Then try and adjust based on that

For hitting topspin, I always like to imagine it as uppercutting the ball rather thank jabbing it. You don’t wanna extend too much through the ball without hitting up on it enough

    Three things:
    1) Your natural athleticism and coordination are easy to see here. Very good progress, and I expect you'll continue to see rapid improvement if you keep putting in the work.
    2) There are a million tips I (or any other experienced player) could give you, but too much information is often a bad thing. I will just give you one thought that you've already probably noticed on your own:
Your best shots happen when you manage to get your feet in the right place at the right time. If your feet are late and you end up jammed, off-balance, leaning, etc... you're gonna miss. So for practice in the future, just try to put a little more thought and energy into your footwork. Realize you are practicing the right way of "getting to the ball" as much as you are practicing the right way of "hitting the ball".
    3) Question for you: What got you interested in starting tennis as an adult? Most adult players started as kids. Some start as adults for social reasons (i.e. doubles w/ friends). What's your story?

Break down your technique step by step , focus on your unit turn motion and what your doing with your hands.
Watch some videos on the correct unit turn and ready position should look like.
From ready position your watching the ball coming , as the ball comes over the net, in ready position start your unit turn , offhand on throat of racket to create some stability and help guide the racket back.
Rackets back and offhand on throat about shoulder height , shoulders turned and focus on the ball as it enters the strike zone slightly more in front of you then beside you.
Swinging high low and finish high following through across the opposite shoulder
Eyes focused on the ball until it leaves the string-bed.
Good job and thanks letting people follow your journey

Great video! Love the challenge and this video very clearly separates pickle from tennis. Look how many days and hours to make small improvements to your game. Pickle would be in minutes. Keep it up. My best tip is to not over focus on too many tennis videos and instead hit on a wall instead of ball machine.
🎉Make the connection that where the palm of your right hand is going so will the face of the racket. Fast or slow swings and tempo not as important as feeling the face make solid contact ahead of your body with good spacing.
🎉 start feeling that non dominate hand out in front pointing toward the ball and then opening up your left shoulder as your making contact to get the much needed lag. Right now your left arm is chicken winging inside and that can also make spacing feel awkward.
🎉 best drill I learned when going from two hands on both sides a teacher gave me a 2 minute lesson but it taught me proper swing path. On a ball machine this would go well with tip 1. Use your left arm to hold in your right arm so your elbow is against your body feel that circular loop of not letting your elbow fly out from your side. This will keep you connected and let you feel more solid contact.
Hit me up if you want more help. By far my forehand is my best weapon and it came down to a few simple fundamentals then a ton of reps. Played D1 and over 34 years in the game. 🎉🎉

Your forehand is incredible though and you backhand and serve are pretty solid as well. From my personal experience competing 90% of the points/matches I’ve lost are because of bad/lazy footwork. At 6:16 you show a closeup of your string bed. Weird. 99% of the time it’s the mains (tip to bridge) that break first. You probably inherited that string job from your brother. Frankly a hybrid string job is way overkill for a complete beginner. When you restring try and use a middle of the road quality string and pay more attention to string tension. With each new string job experiment with the tension up or down 3-4 pounds. And write it down so you can figure out the tension that works best for you. Try and use the same string each time to eliminate that variable. There will be time enough later to nerd out on strings. Technique development is far more important to your game at this point.

The racket I am using in the first part of the video until the strings busted is a Wilson Ultra V4, then I make the switch to the Wilson Pro Staff V14 in the second half of the video. I have found them to both be very forgiving rackets, the Ultra being a little bit lighter of a racket. Strings are toroline wasabi on the pro staff and alu power syn gut hybrid on the ultra. I like this machine, the brand is Nisplay. The best thing about it is that its pretty portable. I would like the balls to shoot out a little more consistent in terms of placement, like you see in the video it goes back and fourth between tossing high balls and low balls mid round without me changing any settings (i'm sure most machines do that they can't be perfect). I would recommend for sure

@@Winners-Only-DeuceThat’s cool. I’m using a Wison Ultra 100L V2 right now because I was able to pick it up on sale for a good price but I’m looking to get something with a bit more weight. Been demoing things like the Blackout, Percept, and ProStaff 6.1 100. What made you want to try poly strings? All I read anywhere is that they are terrible unless you’re a 5.0 player and stuff like that. Regarding the ball machine that’s good to know. I don’t feel like any one can be that consistent but who knows. I know Nisplay is one of the cheaper ones but as long as it’s durable that’s more than enough for me.

great editing! love to see these improvement videos while i'm out with injury.
one thing i noticed is you hit all your forehands off the front foot - its good, considered a "neutral stance" forehand and great to have. but watch the pros footwork, they actually hit the majority off the back foot in a "semi-open stance". if you google those terms you'll know what i mean. neutral stance is a good place to start, and you have a nice easy swing with weight transfer onto the front foot. semi open you'll make contact while your weight is on your back foot still, so you'll need to remember to transfer the weight (which is more rotational).
advantages of semi open is that it allows you to hit it a bit later so gives you some more time, i find it helps me get more shape on the ball too. good for a rally ball. good to be able to hit both stances, as that front foot stance is better at flattening the ball to put pressure on, i.e. when you wanna hit up the line and come in. i did see you hit some more open stance shots but they looked like errors and you looked to be struggling. so i think dedicate a few sessions just to this. you want to move your hips then feel a bit of lag in your arm as the racquet then whips through.
another tip is those wide balls i saw you struggle on, the open stance should help with these. also with the high balls, you still want to swing up on them even if they're above shoulder height and you feel like you can slap them down. really you can only slap them down if they're close to the net, its tempting to feel like slapping them down when you're behind the baseline but never do that or you'll leak too many errors.

One of my biggest tips to beginners is to get used to the split step. That way you'll be more prepared since you seem to get jammed up with your feet. It'll help you stay on your toes and make micro adjustments to get in the right position! I'd also recommend maybe setting up some cones to get comfortable aiming for a target. Cross court or down the line around no man's land to help you get a better feel of how you need to turn your body to hit different angles. Definitely solid stuff!

    1. Have a loose grip and hit over the ball.
    Self explanatory
    2. Spacing and timing
Find a gauge for when to start you’re swing (and not necessarily where the ball bounces) but rather where the ball is gonna be.
That being said for spacing and time I’ve found that using you’re left hand as a gauge for spacing away from the ball (about a foot away from where ur Palm is) is where the sweet spot is. This also applies to timing (how close or far the ball is to passing you’re hand)
    3. Stay low and movement is extremely important.
You’re racket is longer than you realize so you also need to make sure to move away from the ball even when it’s coming towards you.
    4. Hip rotation (fire with the hips)
When you have a loose swing you still need to make sure you make contact on time and it will be a lot more helpful and effortless if you really exaggerate you’re hip rotation.
    5. Keep you’re chest foreword
Be wary of even slight leans that you may not pay attention to even when you’re thinking about getting the ball over cause often you’ll hit it long. Rather focus on extending you’re swing more at a steeper angle if you want more spin and net clearance.
That being said got an impressive forehand for a beginner and you should only focus on one thing at a time which in this case I think movement and spacing are most important

  • @proshepherd

I played college level tennis and I've coached tennis for 20 years off and on. First off, I would like to say that your forehand has improved drastically so quickly! Great job. Here's my pointer for you. You mentioned how you have a hard time with highballs and how you know your footwork probably isn't ideal, and you're right!. Ironically, the way to improve your forehand is to address both of these issues at the same time. If you have a ball that's in the perfect position around stomach level you hit your forehand pretty well. This is because your basic swing looks really good and when the balls in the right spot and is the correct distance from your body, you had a good forehand. The key then, is to make sure that you are always hitting that forehand regardless of what ball your opponent gives you. Focus on the footwork and your positioning. If the ball goes high, back up and hit it at that stomach level with BOTH feet on the ground. Alternatively, if you have the time you can move forward and hit it at stomach level before the ball goes up high. Keep your feet moving and try to hit that ball around stomach to chest level every single time and when you do, try your hardest to keep both feet on the ground the entire time. Have fun!

    • @pd1323
      @pd1323 3 місяці тому

Thats terrible advice. No shot in tennis his hit with both feet. Even a high ball open stance forehand on the swing you'll be on the hitting side leg. On every swing your weight is one ONE leg. It goes back leg / back swing - front leg / forward swing. And as I said on an open stance shot its the same but the legs swap roles.
