***Important tips please read: Make sure you press to *compress* the dough as you roll them into balls so there are no air pockets inside. As the dough shrinks and dries out it will cause cracks if you do not press it together in a *tight* little ball. Press and roll. Keep dough moist and smooth on the outside. Smooth out any outside cracks with a bit of water on your finger before you put them in the oven to bake. Dry out *slowly* at a low temperature. The lower the better. 200° is the lowest my oven goes but you can even leave them in the oven overnight if the temperature is below 200°. You can use a dehydrator as well if you have one. All you are doing is sucking the moisture out of the dough so it becomes hard as a rock. The process must go slow so that it does not cause cracks or deformities. I suggest you cut the recipe down to 1/4 so you can experiment for the perfect balance until you get the hang of it. Individual climates and humidity play a part as well. You may need to add more water or more flour and so on. The dough should feel nice and cool and velvety smooth with a little touch of moisture coming out of it. There should be no outside cracks. Refer to the video to take a look at how smooth and velvety my dough is. That is the goal consistency. Most of all, have fun! 😘❤️
I just found this video. Tyfs I'm so tired of buying beads. I really appreciate you, and all you do for us crafters, and homemakers that have little money. Have a blessed day sweetie.
I had forgotten about your recipe for beads. My grandson has another couple of days coming up …. I think this should be a fun project for Valentine’s. Thank you and God Bless. Ruth
I was just about to say this Holly!!! Thank you so much for sharing that. I would like to try just to say I did it myself lol. If I had not watched your Valentine video I wouldn't seen this probably. So cool!!! ❤
I am utterly speechless! I have never seen the beads made before and I have been subscribed to numerous DIY UA-cam channels. Is there anything that you cannot make?? 🤔😲 Lolol
I used to make this when I was a child and so did my children but I don’t know what happened over the years no one does stuff like this with their children now. I used to have so much fun doing this, although I never made beads with this, well not that I remember anyway. I was going to make some out of air dried clay but get now I’ve got the recipe for that too, thank you Holly. Your bead garland looks awesome, and when you make your own you are limited by you own imagination not the stores imagination. I haven’t had any notification for your videos for so long and all of a sudden UTube have decided to give them to me again and I’m so glad.
I REALLY did not want this video to end. Not only informative but so soothing and relaxing. Love all your ideas & hacks. You are truly one of a kind in every part you show us. Thank you again & again for sharing your time and inspirations.
Omg I am so trying this, I was just talking about how expensive wood beads are on any online site, maybe this will drive down those bead gaugers..lol. Thanks so much for sharing, I will save tons now on my projects. 🤩🤩🤩👍🏻👍🏻
I love your videos Holly you are so kind to help us girls out that don't have a lot of money and still would like to do nice crafts I love your heart technique using cardboard and Twine that was awesome thank you so much love you lots

WOW! WOW! WOW! Why have I never seen this before now! I have watched lots and lots of DIY videos and finally. This has been the best video by far so useful! Thank you! Be sure to read the comment I pinned at the top for extra tips. They are a lot of fun to make but you do need to know what consistency you’re looking for before you bake them! Much love to you😘🥰

Mary Tobiczyk Hi Mary. I’m so glad you like the beads so much! I like them very much too! Both recipes come at the end of the video. Have a blessed day! 🙏😘🥰
I wonder if you could put a small amount of paint into the mix before making the shapes??? I love this idea, I love using beads in my crafts but there so expensive!!! Now I can make all the sizes I need! Can you make really big beads too? Thank you soooo much for this absolute brilliant DIY! This is only the 2nd video Iv watched after subscribing to the 1st being the coffee can water jug! I wished I had found you sooner! Your a wonderful crafter xxxx
Thank you for the kind words! I have never tried adding paint to the mix but if you try it please let me know. It might make it too sticky or otherwise not dry correctly. You could add dry colorants like iron oxide or anything in a powder form like cocoa if you want it brown, for example. I just paint mine after they are done. As I mentioned in the video the larger beads must have a hole in the center otherwise they will not dry out all the way, other than that it should work but make sure the hole is bigger than normal. You also can’t hang larger beads onto the skewer because the hole gets stretched a bit unless you don’t mind that? If you put them directly onto a baking pan, the weight of the larger bead might make one side a bit flatter, but it would still look pretty stringed if they are side-by-side very close. You probably wouldn’t notice it. Let me know how it all goes! Thanks for watching my friend! 😘🥰
You can paint them after they're dried. Used to make salt dough ornaments with my mom when I was a little girl. We used regular acrylic paint. I dont know about adding paint to the mix. You could add some food coloring...or maybe even rit dye?
you can add like acrylic paint or oil paint to it,but it would be very soft ,pastel kind of color after it tries out. If you want very vibrant colors I suggest painting after. If you want very big and thick item, them you should make some supporting structure out of folio first and cover it with this dough. Or other option is to hollow the item if it is possible so you have only these thin perimeters to harden. But don´t leave it too thin or it will get broken
Now who in their right mind would give this a thumbs down ???? This is so creative I mean really a thumbs down, bunch of Debbie downers is what they are, A BIG THUMBS UP !!!! LOVE this
Lol, you are the 3rd person to comment that on this exact vid. I read that most of the thumbs down actually come from other UA-cam creators. Sigh, lol. Thanks for the sweet comments you leave! Hug! 😊

I can't get over how much they look like real beads. I just got my order from Amazon in today of 200 20mm beads for $10.99. I think they were a great price but I'm definately going to try making this. I also have a bunch of molds so I'm excited to use this recipe with them.
If you have molds that cannot go in the oven you should look up air dry clay on UA-cam! There are some excellent recipes from what I understand. I don’t know a lot about it but I came across this section last week and it looks very interesting. That is a very good price for wooden beads that size! If you’re on Instagram please send me the link so I can buy some too! You can also mail me add Pinterest. Thank you for watching and for commenting! ❤️😘🥰
Oh goodness let me show my age. We did this in brownies & girlscouts. I remember them cracking, not looking as store bought as yours & mostly just a pain to get right lol but I will PAY you to make me a bag of beads!!!😍
