This is how the legend of undead Dutchy is born… He can‘t find peace until every last gold nugget of the area is found!

Dutchy's Cave is not lost. My associates and I found Dutchy's Cave many years ago, but we were far from the first to visit it.
There are far more inscriptions in the cave portion than you might expect. The oldest date is 1779. Though there is iron in the schist, I saw nothing to hint that there was any significant amount of gold in the bedrock. Interesting story though, and interesting location to visit. If you'd like, maybe I can meet you for a hike out to it in spring.

I'm wondering: How much Gold has ever been harvested in the North Eastern states?
When we think Gold, and Silver, in the USA, we think "California and Nevada"., not the Northeast, or even East Coast, or East of the Mississippi River.
However, History being one of my areas of Degrees, continued studies and research focus, I recently discovered some History I was unaware of: "One of the most productive Gold Mining locations was, and this still amazes me, is Georgia.". North Georgia, which intersects Eastern Alabama, Southeast Tennessee, Western South Carolina and North Carolina, the Appalachian area of the Appalachian Mountains, the Great Smokey Mountains area.
Georgia has, what I'm discovering as, some very interesting History, including Geological.
There exists a story of the "Cherokee Gold". A story that isn't myth, they harvested Gold from Tennessee and North Georgia. The Cherokee People's were not the Native People's of our Media and Mainstream Opinion History, influences. These were highly skilled, intelligent, civilized People, with a thoroughly organized Society, complete with avwritten language and fixed sites, including Wood and Stone Architecture. They are a line of the Iroquois tribe. But I digress. (if you have interest in some of the Georgia History, Outdoors, Waterways, and Geology, there are an abundant number of Professionally Produced Videos, from a Georgia state PBS series that are top shelf, called "Georgia Outdoors", that I highly recommend.
Back to the Connecticut Gold story, I suspect the Gold Miner may have expired of natural causes and nature took it's course, including the "wildlife scavengers circle of life", or he may met with a creature(s) that sealed his fate. The reports of creatures whose habitats are lush in the Forests by creeks and streams, are abundant. Although I've never knowingly witnessed one, I apply the actual "Standards of Science and Research", which includes: "Mind fully Open, free of any predetermined Beliefs, Theories, Opinions", and the "Universal Law of Attraction" which is Absolute, thus "Any - thing is possible".
Tragic, today he would be on David Paulides "Missing 411" list.
Ever panned for Gold? With all the waterways/streams and hills, in the Northeast, it fits with the scenery.
Enjoy your Explorations and Discoveries ...

I'm sure it was quite creepy in the moment. But those glasses were dirty and have not been cleaned in a while, and the fire pit looked to have about a seasons worth of dead leaves in it.

There’s now a note that sits with the glasses and utensils that reads. “Forgive me father for I have sinned” kinda creepy especially with the serial killer history of that area. I’m from harwinton. Frequent spruce brook and that area. I’ve mined it a couple times. Only found one small flake. I’ve searched and searched but I’ve never found the cave.

Reminds me of what my friends and I used to do and that was to walk in a large section of woods on major trail but at some point we pick one spot off the trail and travel straight thru whatever was there, thorns, pits, dense bushes or streams and rivers.
Sometimes we would fail and sometimes not but we would find the most amazing things in even forests we've been going into our whole lives!

A fairly common occurrence that came out of the California Gold rush was never do wells following prospectors back to their claim and murdering them for the claim, and whatever gold the prospector had already found. Then they buried the victim. If questioned they claim they acted in self defense.

@@DimeStoreAdventures i want to believe you and if you can think it, there's a good chance it happened somewhere. I've seen some crazy things out there, eg and possible story:
Burlington Connecticut has an FDR approved work camp occupied during the new deal. One of the few things remaining is the intact Jail because of course after a hard day of Labor, you had to drink, and then if you're drinking you might as well fight. It's about a 15-20' square on a dirt road you can drive on. One time when I went there I found bones inside the building in a little sub-basement / depressed area in the back. They were rather large and looked like they could possibly be a femur (but most likely deer). I did the responsible thing and made soup I mean I called the state police since they have jurisdiction. I told them the story, described the bones and got myself ready for the pats on the back, good job son and maybe a small parade. Instead the officer pretty much said they didn't care, it's probably a deer, bones are everywhere. Have to admit I was kind of surprised. I'm not a doctor but I was pre med, so I know what a femur looks like. I'm going to guess nobody called in a missing leg lately but I took plenty of pictures so I couldn't be blamed for murder God forbid. Bottom line is that you can find crazy things anywhere and apparently it's more common than you might expect because people are crazy. I'm sorry for writing a book here but if you want I'll send you the details about the jail.

Also you just gotta pan.that river to know if there's gold.
If you find some. It's either up the banks of that point or further up river not downriver. Then youd sample up the banks in a grid to locate the source pf the gold
    In theory. The mine
