I was at Del Mar for a shoot and was trying to get to downtown San Diego. It took 15 minutes to get on the freeway. Same with LA the day my dad had his stroke. It took 15 minutes to go 200 yards.
I just left San Diego. Sold my house at a huge profit which was great, but in Florida I can keep drastically more of my paycheck. I will really miss SD, but I also think most San Diegans, including myself for years, do have rose colored glasses for the place. I hope California eventually gets its act together.
@@BernMcGovern the ones that let me keep $5000 more per month or so. I mean you can literally buy a whole house within 10-15 years in another state just off the tax savings in some cases. It pays for itself.
Airport not truly being an international airport is a big con. Rarely any decent international flight and most international visitors fly from LAX is an inconvenience
One of the cons is that despite the amazing food choices in San Diego, if you are from other parts of the US Canada or Europe you will likely be very disappointed with the Chinese food options here. Stick with Thai, Indian, Korean, Vietnamese or Filipino if you want good Asian food in which case! As a proviso, I'm not saying the Chinese food here is bad, it's just different and not what perhaps outsiders might expect.
I was just having this conversation with my sister yesterday. I'm up in San Jose thinking of relocating to probably Carlsbad. A big concern moving is, will it get better or worse? Homeless crime etc. It's getting worse in the South Bay area . Personally I am willing to pay for a nicer environment to spend my senior years in. Anyway excellent video.thanks
The homeless issue is a State wide issue for sure but it's not really shown itself to be a huge issue in Carlsbad itself. Downtown on the other hand...
We moved from Campbell to San Diego in 2009 and were shocked how much worse everything got in the south bay, really every 6mo. We had gotten used to our 45min commutes for work, an average amount of crime, all those things seemed normal when we lived there. When we would go back to visit we had to ask our friends, is it worse or is it because we have gotten used to not living here. They said, no, it's gotten worse year over year, and considerably worse. We've had no regrets living in San Diego. Of course it's not cheap, it's still coastal California. However, it's a much more laid back lifestyle, the traffic is very predictable. I honestly don't find the homeless to be that much worse than any other place we visit. The difference in quality of life is so apparent that many of our friends ended up also relocating after visiting us down here a few times.
@brat32179 I love living here in San Diego. I rent a nice apartment at Bankers Hill, and this is a perfect spot for me. There are homeless people around, but it is not as bad as the center of downtown. Anyone in doubt should definitely move to San Diego, and not just to retire here. This is my state and the city and I am not moving anywhere else. I am also not unbias. 😅 I moved here from LA here, and San Diego is a better fit for my personality. I just wish they had a nice basketball team, like the Lakers. 😄
Comment Bellow? I can't tell you about accordions and suchlike, but gas, yes - although gas is much much cheaper at Costco, you are generally going to have to wait in line. The one in Poway is bad, the Carmel Mountain one is much worse, and the Friars road one next to IKEA and Lowes is diabolical. If you can stand to get up early you can usually get a pump straight away at 6am! There's no Costco close to the 56, although weren't they talking about building one off Black Mountain Ranch and there was lots of local opposition?
The home insurance isn't a San Diego issue, that's a California issue. They also didn't pull out because of the fire risk, it's because government regulation said they had to keep a % of cash available to fulfill policies, and most insurance companies don't like those numbers, it wasn't worth them continuing to operate in the state.
Thanks for the Cons. I don't really want to hear about them, as I still love San Diego. Now over 30 yrs. ago when I lived there, the public transportation wasn't great, and the water/ocean on the cold side. I did love the weather ,beaches, parks and people.

California definitely isn't perfect. But What State is?

What does "wondering" across San Diego mean?
Did we say that?!
thanks guys for info👍👍👍👍
Our pleasure!
Arguably the biggest con of them all is actually the cost of living. What do you think?
100% agree…most of the other cons people can probably live with
I was there in 2018 and the gas was 4.50 that was alot back then
It's actually getting pretty close to that now
Airport not truly being an international airport is a big con. Rarely any decent international flight and most international visitors fly from LAX is an inconvenience
Yeah London seems to be the only place it will go to directly
today $4.79 for premium at Costco gateway center ...not horrible compared to our current seattle prices but still slightly more. 4.49 here
I actually saw a little bit lower this week

Leave California. We won't mind !

Definitely not just a San Diego Issue but the video was specifically about San Diego...

The pros far outweigh the cons in my opinion but I always want people to know it’s not perfect. Just like every other city
