- Our topic this week is my biggest loss and what I learned from it. I've been playing tennis my whole life, and I've learned so much about myself. At every stage of the training, and competing process, you think about so many things that the average fan doesn't think about.

Vee, please continue these videos. As some other people mentioned in the comments, it feels like we are friends and having a coffee together remembering some stories.
love this!
You are incredible. You didn't lose anything, you obtained knowledge.
No she lost. She will never be a champion like Emma Raducanu.
One of your greatest matches for me was the Wimbledon 2005 against Lindsey Davenport. You were down to match point twice, but you kept fighting and bringing it, until you finally were in the lead at 8-7 after trailing the entire match. I had tears in my eyes, I was so proud of you! You wanted it, and you took it. Great job!!!👏👏👑🏆♥️
Same with me
Best wat match to this day. Legendary battle. I was super happy for Venus and devestated for Lindsay.
*Linsay
" you can be better , don't be afraid if you had bad moments , it's just a moment , it's not forever and those are the moments you can learn from " AMAZING QUOTE from an AMAZING STAR 🙏❤
I remember watching this match… I cried. I was happy for Serena but devastated for V. It taught me 1) leave everything on the table 2) don’t wait for someone else to make my dreams. Just do it!!
Incedible insight cuz I've always noticed that when Venus is down in a match she goes for her shots even more. She never waits for her opponent to miss match point down. It really was a pivotal moment in her career and it stayed with her! ❤
it’s so great to me that you can admit this years later your sister gave you this great advice. and that you can admit that you don’t feel like you worked hard enough. beautiful story. thanks vee!
Don't forget Venus in your first grand slam win you played hingis in the quarter finals in a three set battle, you used the lesson to beat her and win the slam. Love you so much❤❤❤
I’m watching the match now lol the way she just KNEW the last point was an ace. 😂
Thank you, Venus. You changed MY life…yours was the first tennis match I ever saw live (US Open 2001) and I fell in love with game immediately. 22 years later and it’s one of the things that brings me the greatest highs (and lows, whenever you lose). I’ll be at at the us open 2023 and I have Armstrong. I know you deserve to and should always be at Ashe, but I hope they put you in Armstrong first round. 🤞🏽🤞🏽
Feels as if I’m sitting and enjoying conversation with a good friend. I’m hopeful that your message reaches many young aspiring athletes around the globe. 🌸🐝
thanks for the love!
That was such a close match, and it could have went either way. Hingis had just a little more experience in those moments at that point. I thought you took enough out of Hingis that she was all set for Serena to finish the job. As much as we celebrated watching Serena win in 1999, Wimb 2000 had all of us rejoicing right along with you. That celebration at the end of the match was unforgettable, one for the ages! Such a role model!
Hingis ❤🥰
Looking forward to watching you playing again ❤
"if you just want it, but you're not doing what it takes, it's just called wanting it".....I needed to hear this. Thank you.
thanks for the love!
Most people can only imagine the energy level of competition in those arenas. Yet, I appreciate your decomposing the scenario to make it relatable to the masses. This story is a brilliant example of taking ownership of ones own future and being committed to excellence.
Venus you are such a role model. You have inspired me. You are so blessed with a wonderful family. Your parents thought you and your sisters so well, the way you guys support each other is so incredible.
I love the way you turned that loss around, and learned and adjusted and won the tournament the following year. In the words of 311 "You've got to trust your instinct
And let go of regret
You've got to bet onyourself now star
'Cause that's your best bet"
I love 311!!!
Thank you so much for this! I'm not a young'un, and my biggest loss, embarassment was when I played "What Child is This" at my recital! OMG!! It was so horrible I wanted to jump up and run--but I stayed, bowed, cried and made a promise -- NEVER PLAY A RECOGNIZABLE PIECE AT A RECITAL! 😝LOL! This is good stuff! Thank you again Queen Vee!🥰
I always cheered for Venus to win she's my boo 😍👍
Wow, V. Thank you for putting this out there for all of us who love and respect you to learn from. I remember well the loss you talked about and when I saw the headline for this video I was certain it would be the one. I am so proud to be among your greatest fans. Enjoy the US Open!
Thank you for articulating this, I feel myself holding back sometimes and I can see that to win it, you’ve got to give all of yourself. I think the world of you Venus. x
It feels so good to see you playing so well. Rooting for you at the US Open !!!
Thank you Venus
truly inspiring. I'm still watching your matches even up to this date!
Yes V this is awesome!!! We’d love to hear what winning WIMBLEDON for the 1st time was like for you!
Me and my lil sister were so inspired by you, losses and wins we started playing tennis that same year because we wanted to be like you guys and we emulated you all so much our coach used to think we were dancing in practice with doing the fast feet, swing volleys all the time, big cross court forehands and running backhands down the line LOL you inspired and continue to inspire us as we gotten multiple achievements in our lives! Not being afraid to be first or a leader!!! Thank u the DMV loves you guys!!! Wish yallybring back the Williams Sisters Tour 😅
Rooting for you at the US Open, the real Queen. You're still winning against young players thats a real deal.
Venus this was a great lesson. I remember that match. I watched both you and Serena's matches. I remember how disappointed you were. I also remember when the camera focused on Serena and she had a look on her face which said, " I am going to kick your butt in the final for beating my sister!" And she did in that tie break. Venus you are right the next year you did win your first US Open but before that you won your First Grand Slam of your career at Wimbleon! Then the following year you won both titles for a second year in a row! You are your sister are amazing! Love both of you.
Great video. That match was a heartbreaker. Even now, you’re making progress. Keep fighting and persevering. ❤ We’ve got your back. Great things are still to come for you.
It takes courage to admit our mistakes, shortfalls, and imperfections. You my dear are a superhero!!!! Thanks for humanizing yourself and showing all of us how you’ve gone through growing pains and disappointments. Thanks for declaring how you invested time in yourself to learn from your losses and to push forward to become a better you. You are truly inspiring 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
thanks for the love!
I don’t play tennis I’m 73 but I enjoy watching you play and I really enjoy your videos we get to know you better as a person thank you for sharing I’m sure the things you say will help people
love this!
I really appreciate your honesty here Venus. You've seen and experienced so much that it's so inspiring to hear you talk about your incredible career.
Tennis is a brutal sport, thank you for being so candid.
Lots of love from the UK!
thanks for the love!
Venus, Absolutely incredible advice, that’s relevant on so many levels of life, honest and from the heart. I guess it’s really true what’s said that “what comes from the heart, enters the heart “ ❤ Thanks Venus!
Love it, thank you Queen Vee! More re-watch videos are always so fun and absolutely fascinating to see your point of view to compare it to our point of view as your fans! 😍
love the suggestion!
This is great advice you can learn from anyone, older or younger and hard work and dedication is required.
I learned the same thing. Winning all the time is not the best thing. Challenging myself against all with the desire to put in my best efforts has proven to be more effective.
Of course! I remember very well. You were looking so pretty in your black outfit during the final. But you were also looking sad not to be playing. Yes, Serena showed you this time, but you are the one who opened all the doors and taked most of the pressure before that tournement.
Also, Serena was 15 months younger, when King Richard judged that you were old enough to learn tennis. This is an advantage for sure, but it is impossible to mesure it.
OK this is a great video and love hearing about this match but what impresses me even more is that you did it in ONE TAKE! It's like no biggie I'll sit down do a fluid engaging video thanks and bye.
I remember watching you watching Serena in that final. Venus, it was quite obvious to this viewer that you were extremely disappointed. Of course, you cheered your sister on, but you simply couldn't hide your own disappointment. I think many tennis fans expected you to win the first Grand Slam since you were the older sister. Alas, it wasn't meant to be. Fortunately, it proved to be a seminal moment in your maturing as a person and tennis player which in the end would be to your benefit. Thank you for sharing this valuable personal lesson. I'm loving watching you compete now even after all these years. You're beating some highly ranked players. You just need more consistency and more matches to get there. All the best . . .
Love this ❤❤. Keep going Vee!
Losses make us learn more, One can never be successful without the losses. Thanks for motivating V !!!
That was great to listen to and you did it in one take, wow! Honest and genuine! I remember that match, I could watch it over and over. Good luck in the US Open, coming from Hingis's fan 😉
Love it! We continue to grow every day. Great lesson learned. Thanks for the post. Oh by the way I’m not sure you will remember, but you came by the Set and Baldwin Hills when we were shooting Roswell I was the assistant prop master on the show anyway obviously things turned out wonderful continued success!!!
The Williams sisters' rivalry with Hingis has undoubtedly increased the popularity of women's tennis.
I was initially a fan of her Hingis, but I was very impressed with how you sisters grew up to beat her.
It's been so many years and I was so happy to see you and Hingis playing doubles together at an exhibition.
And while you played that legendary match with Kimiko Date at Wimbledon, I admire your passion for tennis that continues to play until she's the same age.
hi VENUS,
it was really inspiring watching you win
your recent tennis match against
Veronika Kudermetova
in Cincinnati.
Best of Luck at the
US Open in
August/September!!
Much Love!
❤
Venus is so impressive. You brought so much joy Venus out on those tennis courts; keep up the good work in all that you do.
I remember when you won at the US open it was an amazing game.
This was a great insight V, especially the part about also learning from your wins.
I wish hingis was able to have an extended career. Imagine how good your rivalry with her could have been.
Love this!!! Thank you for sharing this!! Love the reflection on those matches!!! Best of luck at the open rooting for you!!!
I love this video and I identified my biggest win and loss but they’re private so decided not to post to the public but I would 100% tell you what they were!
You are such a great storyteller! Hope your lend your voice to the tennis world for MANY MANY years to come!
I find it interesting that you say you didn't have heart, because that's the one thing I always say about you. You always go down swinging and never give in until the last point. I guess that experience is where you got that drive. Loved this video. Thanks for sharing this.❤
🤗
You are an amazing person. You are a great example of what growth and inspiration is all about. Young girls take note.
I grew up admiring you and Serena;you were "the dream". Can't tell you how exciting it is to hear this ;it's like the big sis sharing wisdom. Am on my 5th round of listening...this lesson holds so true in life. Much love from Uganda 🇺🇬
This was so uplifting! Thank you for sharing and yes, more please! 🙏🏽
Be with us forever, Vee! So happy to hear these powerful words from you. Thanks a lot 👑✨🥇
So Inspiring and self aware. This mentality is going to get you far in the US Open
Thanks Venus for sharing your experience. I needed to hear this...❤
I’m proud of you and your dad as well raising 2 legends! What an achievement! Yes please we want more of these videos! Thank you!
We love you Vee! See you at US Open!
One of the best videos Miss. Venus. Goosebumps
thanks so much!
Venus, I’m so proud of you. You are a pioneer in tennis and had to kick down doors. You did this with style and grace all while not taking no bullsharks. I wish you the best and I pray for your health and happiness. ❤
Really enjoyed listening to that. I remember that match and I was actually rooting for Hingis at that time as you were so much taller and stronger than she was, and I guess I felt sorry for her, but you're right that you never really looked back after that loss. There was more of a ruthlessness about you at Wimbledon when you beat her the following year, like you were on a mission and no more compromises.
I'd like to hear about more of your losses at other stages of your career. The wins are great but there have been so many of those!!
thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks for being open and sharing. ❤
It's amazing that you can point that specific instance and that be a trigger for your motivation to win Grand Slams. We as fans, even at that time was sure you would win and win you did.
its how you deal with your losses that will decide how you will have your victories. in tennis, and in life
When I saw the title, my mind quickly went through my little rolodex of VW losses, and I promise you, I knew exactly what match you were going to talk about! I've seen you win some tough ones and lose some even tougher ones. Wimbledon 05 Final nearly gave me a heart attack!
You & Serena have always orbited around each other, that's what makes your life so inspiring and unique (totally got points for an assist during the 99 final)
I had a string of losses in tournaments and would say the right things to myself about not giving up or focusing on the positives, and would just get back to work. But it wasn’t until I let myself break down in my car for a few minutes that I realized just how bad I wanted it. I went back with a different motivation that turned things around in my game. I learned that athletes do need to have a strong mindset, but allowing yourself to feel genuinely, good and bad, keeps you hungry.
thanks for sharing
So much wisdom. Thank you for sharing, queen! ❤
Thank you, Venus! You have always been an inspiration, and I know you will continue to be an inspiration.
Love you Venus all the way.. matches experience, hard work, getting through a tough injury all of that between 1999 and 2000 and you cameback stronger than ever. ❤
thanks for the love!
I loved your rivalry with Hingis, I would love for you to go into how that dynamic was so electric!
good suggestion!
Another great video. Can't wait for the next one. All the best, Vee!
This video is amazing. Very applicable both on & off the court. Thank you. 👊🏽
Great video Venus...your stories and life experiences are so inspiring! Keep up the nice work!
Love this! Such an inspiration! I would love to have a video about your biggest win as well.
Kind of iconic that the next year she WON the semi final against Hingis once again (in one of the most epic matches ever). Also beat her on the way to her first Wimbledon title. Hingis was an early roadblock for her in the slams and it's great to see how she learned from her mistakes.
Amazing advice, motivating. Thank you champ!
Esportes ensinam tanto! Quanta humildade dela em compartilhar essa experiência com o seu público...Adoro o jeito dela de demonstrar seus aprendizados e pontos de vista. ❤🇧🇷
Congratulations on your entrance into the 2023 US Open, and the opportunity to hear the cheers in New York City one more time!! 💝💝💘💘🤩🤩
This is really good and also timely in my life and career.
That.....was so eye opening imean like seriously I'm a player and like it's very relatable.
I learn a lot from this channel but id say this video was the best of them all. I feel like I can do better I really do and once I get there I will never forget this video and thank you sooo much Venus for paving the way and acting as an inspiration . I feel like this will change me . And if it does I'm content with this piece of advice.
Greetings from Australia😊❤
I stayed awake after studying to watch that match and was buzzing at the quality of this brutal match at sun up.
Night time in NY, early morning here.
Hingis at that point was at the top of her game and fitness.
I will never forget that match, a classic.
Then Serena whooped her butt in the final.
That's tennis, my favourite sport.
Venus, so thrilled to see you in this role.
Have you considered having your own show like Oprah?
Beautiful! Inspiring. I'm keeping this one. Over the decades, I have listened to your interviews after matches. I thought to my self, "Wow, that was really good." and I wrote down what you said so I could remember it. So, I'd really like to hear more of these. I need the wisdom and encouragement. Thank you, this is very interesting.
What an encouraging, practical and humble story. I'm going to share this with my 8yo daughter (Chloe) who is a tennis fanatic. Is so true that tennis does make a person grow up quickly which I see that in my girl. She had those period that just pushing balls and hoping for opponent to make unforced errors. Took her about 1 year to changed into growth mindset, focus on development, taking risk play at net area. This video will serve as a reassurance not to be afraid to fail. Invest now, get out of comfort zone and grow confident for the future. Thanks for sharing by keeping everyone inspired and learn more. We hope you could come over to play in Adelaide International 2024😁and have a hit in practice court.
I am 41 years old still trying to obtain my driver's license. The motivation in this video is encouraging
Hey V. First of all you are a great teacher. So, Why don't you create one of the USA sport or tennis facility to give those great advice to the younger generation? Second your experience from your real life and advice talks more. Honestly the American generation needs advice on court on a daily basis. But Thank you for sharing that is one of the greatest experiences you have ever shared in your videos, and the great advice you can give to any one, not only tennis players but to all people.
Venus, it’s a gift to watch you play!
Thank you Venus for your message of optimism and life lesson. Tennis is like life,. There are moments in our lives when we have good experiences or bad experiences (at work, office, at school, at university, etc.). The important thing is to believe in yourself. Thank you Venus. You are our Queen!!!!
I like what you said " I chose not to do better" explaining your loss giving yourself and also us the hope that you can always make the right choices after making the wrong ones 🙂
I LOVED watching you and Martina play against each other. Both so intelligent and determined. ❤
Ps I’m taking an exam next week. Will use Serena’s advice you shared! Up until today I felt I was going to fail. Thanks for the inspiration Venus x
good luck!
Venus.....when you mentioned at the beginning, "this will be personal" I thought, "ok intense let's see but pretty sure it's not gonna be that craz..."
Wow. It wasn't just the choice of words of your reflection of the loss, it's all the nuances (immeasurable) from your voice alone and how some of the things you realized.....you repeated more than 3 times BUT with a different cadence, tempo....
To me---it just revealed so much. I feel like we just had a coffee chat and you trusted me to keep it between us.
That, Venus, is the impression you leave your fans. The sincerity is .
This was indeed personal and I appreciate it so much, amongst your thousand and millions of fans....
Thank you❤
Wise, engaging content. Won't find this anywhere else. ❤️
It's 4am now, I woke up to watch a new video of Venus 😄😘 my biggest motivator and my GOAT ❤❤❤

Wow, thank you!
I needed to hear this today! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
