Thanks folks. Just bought one of these. You were doing a worst case test here. For that kind of weather I will be carrying extra pegs and lines and an extra UL tarp. I would expect to
1. use whatever terrain and foliage is available to slow down the wind.
2. Use that tarp with extra lines off the poles to create a windbreak in the direction of the strongest breeze.

2:29 Oh, I watched a lot of related videos when purchasing Peak 2, but it was my first time installing it in such strong winds, so I really enjoyed it! I'm a complete beginner, so I learned from watching the video that I need to tie the guy line in advance 😅 Connecting the fly to one side is a really good idea to deal with sudden rain! I need to find out how I can connect. I'm using it with a ground sheet fastened together, but I'll have to try setting it up again. Thank you for the good video. Hello From Korea 🇰🇷
Thank you! We’re really glad this video helped you out. I undid the hooks on the top fly cover and tied them directly to the tent as you saw. I also in undid the rest of the hooks and tightened up the the loops so that the cover would be tight and not flap around. There’s a few videos out there that show the different mods you can do to this tent. Good luck and happy camping 😁

Hi, thanks for the comment and sub! Yh luckily it was only a minor issue for us. I think testing tents out in harsh weather is great for giving you confidence for longer trips. I hope your trip was okay after the tent broke.

It's always more memorable when stuff goes a bit wrong. Don't think it was your mistake though, but it's a budget tent & you gave it a good testing!

yes i havn,t had my cloud peak long just a week and i luv it apart from the door flaps snagging on the zip on the left side but me personally wouldn,t of pegged them in in strong winds but 15d ripstock shouldn,t of ripped like that so remember to leave them out if your camping in heavy winds great video guys
Great video, my cloud peak 2 failed me other week so be careful with the main zips on the fly sheet. As for the rip, don’t think that should of happened but could be because its the 15d fly.

Thanks Liam, I think your right. Seems like a weak point where it ripped. Appreciate the heads up about the zips. Hopefully we can avoid that happening.
At the end of the day, nature always wins regardless of what you have spent on a tent. In my opinion there are only two tents I would trust in the open in strong winds; terra nova quasar, vango force ten tent. I have a cloud peak but I know its limitations. Great video
Thanks! Yh the cloud peak definitely has its limits but for the price and space you get inside it’s pretty good. For weather worse than this I would probably abandon mission 😅.

Alright guys - good effort in some grim conditions.......... whilst that guy out point is not structural, it absolutely should not have failed. The seam of stitching has come away, rather than any fabric failure - so that, IMHO - is a component failure. ATB, Chris

Hi, enjoyed your video. I don't think it was your fault, it was probably a bit of dodgy stitching, as it wasn't horrendously windy. I camped out in the 20D version in storm Barra, a lot windier 😂 no rips, but a few gusts did flatten the tent, bending the poles. In very windy weather a more sheltered slot is preferable. Anyway, all the best 👍

Not your fault. Although the Naturehike is a great tentbfor the money, it is still a budget tent, and maybe ghe wind was just too much for it(?)

Hey guys love the channel! So, I'll try and keep this short! Tent flysheets are made waterproof using 2 ways. First way is adding a PU coating to the fabric (like your Cloud Peak) which is great but it actually weakens the fabric and makes it more likely to tear. The second way is by using silicone (like Hilleberg) which also makes the fabric waterproof and actually increases the tear strength of a fabric! Here's a video testing the tear strength of different fabrics for you (for reference, your could peak 20d PU coated nylon flysheets has a tear strength of about 0.5kg where as 20d silicone coated nylon is 10+kg tear strength) just a heads up really!

are you sure the cloud peak 2 is pu coated? is the taiji 2 really silicone version?
@@TheMadmacs unfortunately both are PU coated fabrics. In the specs they say they coat one side with silicone and the other with pu. So, the PU coating is the waterproofing and the silicone helps the water to beed up and not be adsorbed into the fabrics as nylon can absorb 10 times it weight in water if untreated! Ideally a flysheet that is made from a double coating of silicone on both sides (silnylon) and avoids the use of PU coatings will last far longer, will not degrade over time and therefore it's tear strength is sustained for a longer period of time.
@@andrewhogben2171 yeah i was worried about that, the taiji 2 sags a lot when its wet. i did add a full new coating of silicone and used that silnylon grip stuff on stitched bits, its a shame, its a nice tent bar this and its wind resistance.
@@TheMadmacs it's very true the designs are nice and neat. It's very annoying they cut costs with a cheap base fabric! Last year I had a Hubba Hubba pole snap and tear right through the fly. As you say being PU it's impossible to sew without it tearing along the seam! I suppose the seam tape gives it a false sense of strength as that's what is especially holding it all together. So after that experience, I made my own tent using silnylon and it's soo much stronger and lighter!
I would inform retailer / manufacturer so they would take it in account for future tent models and make it more durable. wind was not worst, I would ask for refund or stronger tent. thanks for sharing.

This certainly isn't your fault. However, I have the same tent and in very strong winds, never having a problem. Quality control, perhaps? Maybe loose stitching, but Naturehike does a pretty good job with this as well their waterproofing. So far in the last couple of years, I have never had this problem.
Hello I think did right mate. But the wind looks pretty bad by the sounds of it. I've had it out in 55mph winds, 20 gusts. But the one I have is the first gen. Yours is blue an I have green with the top hat not attached. But keep positive an keep it up. Atb Andy
Thank you Andy. It’s a decent tent I think, the quality isn’t the best but it performed okay given the conditions. Will keep at it and hopefully will know more about it on the next few trips.

i dont think my taiji 2 would have survived those winds, i dont think you made any mistakes pitching at all, all you can do is use that sealant stuff on everything thats stitched to give it a solid grip on the whole fabric, still might have tore hehehe. ps. since being blown flat in a dome tent i have always looked at plans to peg out after a failure and make the tent pegged out flat just to survive a night.

Where you guyed out the tent was, from what I can see, was correct. Not the fault of the tent really. Conditions like that you are asking too much of a budget tent.
Although it is ripstop nylon, it was the tape that tore away, most likely due to the stitching holes where the tape is sewn on.

Definitely not your fault or the way you set it up. (But don't listen to so called experts talking about nylon,.polyester etc) the truth is, this is the manufacturers fault. Yes it was windy but wasnt exactly 100 miles an hour (which hilleberg and other overpriced tents can't handle either) so I would urge you to get a refund. However, naturhike customer service are practically none existent so good luck with getting hold of them.

Why do you say that Hilleberg tents are over-priced? Have you experienced performance which failed to meet your expectations ? If so it would be interesting to know the details and circumstances of these disappointments.
