Yes. I have version one. I agree with a lot of what Luke says, but his hot humid summers are not our UK weather. However, I rarely use it and never in windy weather, where despite the guy lines the tent is buffeted all over the place. Very popular with motor bike campers due to its small pack size and weight. Much prefer the Naturehike Cloud Peak 2

I love it because it's nice and warm inside while the ventilation still works nicely if you open up both vents. Just bought it and spent two nights in it. I'm 1,74. It's perfect for me and my gear. Setting it up is stupidly easy and fast as well I think. I'll mainly use it for kayaking. At the water rains and storms are quite common.
But it totally isn't for two persons.

@@WatchMysh thanks. I'm exactly 1,74 too and I'm wondering whether to get the 1 person version which should be warmer or the "2" person version.
Currently I use the Naturehike UL/Spider 1 and don't really like it, it's quite cold, it's a bit small and the pitching is quite annoying.

    • @WatchMysh
      @WatchMysh 5 днів тому

@@obrys5494 I have no idea which could be warmer. Possibly the 1 person version because less space means less air to heat?

Sounds like a good one man tent for us here in the UK. I hate full mesh tents for the UK. There's nothing pleasant about being blasted in the face with cold air when you're trying to sleep.

I was looking up their other tents, and it looks like their Star River tent gives you a similar cloth coverage above the bathtub, but it has a crossbar so there's a little more room to maneuver inside. The Star River also has side doors so it should be easier to get in and out from.

This is perfect for cooler Autumn/Spring days/nights. I can’t wait to take it out in winter (although not when it’s snowing). All the best Luke 😊👍🏼🙏🏼🏕️

Also a plus in sandy conditions. Also doing review with zero breeze. He would have been hot even if that tent was mesh down 4 inches. I'm doubtful that those solid side panels at the bottom make that much difference. Viewers chime in if you have tested this tent in warm weather please. Valid point on not putting pulls on that inner to pull it out or attach it to fly when you pull out the fly.

Hey Luke, I just wanted to thank you for all your videos. A relative of mine passed away in June and was such a camping enthusiast. He was 76 and just had just retired before sadly passing away. Over the last few years he had been watching your videos and purchasing items that you have recommended on your channel as well as AB Camping and Steve Wallis. The last purchase was the Soto-st320 stove about 4 months ago but unfortunately didn't get a chance to try it out for himself. He purchased an electric bike and made his own trailer for it and was planning to ride somewhere and camp out for a week. Anyway, again thank you for your reviews and recommendations as I know he took really valued your opinion. All the best

I saw a guy somewhere over seas with the non pro version, woke up surrounded by inches of water and not a drop entered the tent. That combined with the option to get a rainfly with an extra length of skirt along the bottom, I bought the Cloud Up 2 for a cheap entry into fall/winter backpacking/camping. I just saw Eric Hanson do a review on the Featherstone Granite 2P and it looks like a perfect cheap option for summer camping-- side doors, all mesh, lots of head and shoulder room thanks to the cross-beam design, and it was $109 at the time of the video being made. Planning on acquiring that should I decide to operate in the summer.

So it's a 3.5 season tent. Absolutely love that because spring and fall are my two biggest solo/solo with dog.
Unfortunately it looks as complicated as the cloudup to setup (I've had it for 4 years, it's a pita to set up) and it loses a ton of space because it lacks an upper spreader bar.
So love the fabric, hate the rest

I was out in the old Cloud Up 2 this weekend, I was out on Dartmoor and woke up in some low cloud. The inner clips to the outer and helps spread the walls somewhat, and it's odd those have gone away. Haven't had an issue with it dripping into the interior with the door back. It's pretty good for the UK climate, I've been out in it in the middle of December with it and it's been fine.
I do like the updated poles and clips, the lower weight is attractive, but that higher door might be an issue in the rain.

It did great even during a major storm that turned into a mild tornado and only ended up with 1 pole splitting but the tent held up. I have been looking into this cloud up tent as a replacement to go a little lighter but in the process of that I came across the cloud wing ultralight tent by naturehike and it seems very intriguing. I would love to see you do a review on that if possible. I have only come across a couple but they just aren’t as good and detailed as yours.

this video is extremely interesting to me, some years ago I was considering which tent to buy, it was this one or the "star river 2". after buying the star river I always had a doubt if I made the right choice.
FOR MY APPLICATION yes, mine is polyester but weight is not a concern. never got a single drop of rain in even in the worst storms. as this one the mesh is few, so you get condensation, but as you mentioned it doesn't drip in.
and I love that is free standing and inside is a literal palace.
yup, thanks for the vid! have a nice one!
(oh and one thing, I use it at high elevation in Italy and even in the summer is reasonably cool, in winter I stayed good at -4°C but that's because of the sleeping bag)

Thanks for your review of this tent, Luke. I agree that the tent looks very high quality and comes with all the bells and whistles for $170. I also agree that this particular "spider tent" design isn't optimal for 2 people as only person can sit with their head in the center crest of the tent at a time. On the other hand, during a backpacking trip, most time spent in tent is spent lying down, and in most 2-person backpacking tents, getting dressed in the morning is going to require taking turns. In addition, many individual hikers purchase 2-person tents to make use of the extra space on the inside of the tent for storage. So I think the limited headroom of the tent is going to come down to personal preference and circumstance rather than being objectively compromised by the spider tent design.
On the subject of airflow, that is definitely a major issue in heavy rain for tent camping. High humidity in the air causes greater moisture buildup inside the tent, the only remedy to which is excellent ventilation. In heavy rain, without excellent ventilation, you can become drenched in humidity inside the tent. Just for the sake of argument, most backpacking trips probably take place during pleasant weather, with rain gear carried "just in case." For these fair weather trips, having a waterproof tent that can be pitched without a rain fly for ventilation, then buttoned down via the rain fly for storms, might be worth considering, even if the compromised design in regards to airflow prevents the tent from being a contender in high temperature, high humidity environments like a rainforest.
Now I have a question for you, Luke! As an agenda-free independent gear reviewer, do you think there could be tendency to review manufacturer-provided products a bit extra critically, in essence perhaps purposefully "erring on the side of caution?"
Thanks, Luke! You and Suzie make TOGR the best gear review channel on YT! Fingers crossed you get into reviewing more ultralight backpacking cottage industry gear!

The older version has more mesh and less fabric and that's better on the older one.

I've seen variations of this EXACT tent from numerous Amazon resellers over at least the last 6-7 years. Naturehike didn't design a single thing featured in this video except for maybe that door vent. I even have one of these tents (from a different, now extinct brand of course), though it is an all-mesh inner. It's a fine design, though I don't recommend it for 2 people unless they're a couple (my partner and I have used it together twice without too much trouble and even had our 25 lb dog with us one of those times). The single end door isn't my favorite layout, but it's a simple, effective tent. Condensation has not been a problem in mine. I paid $75 (That's not a typo. $75.00) for the one I have in 2018, and it hasn't let me down after 5-6 uses over the years. I don't have high expectations, but it's still going. Mine has been through storms and never leaked.

Hey, that extra wind protection was improved in demand by Russian climbers. It can be vital when you hike 7-10 days in the mountains. If you hike in the countries with mild and warm climate, cloud up 2 10d would be preferable! See also "mongar 2" (not pro!)

So as a tent to carry when you don't plan on camping overnight but want to have weather shelter/bug shelter just in case, you can "endorse" this one?

I watched this, and living in North Georgia, there is no way I would ever get that tent. Never mind I’m way too tall for it, but just the doghouse door, lack of ventilation, and lack of inner space is the thing of nightmares. Thanks for reviewing for us as always. To me, this is a no buy, lol.

Good video for the size and weight this is a decent tent in drafty conditions solid material helps keep the draft off you when inside and some mesh helps with condensation and airflow the gap around the bottom of the fly can be increased by pegging further out even in exposed summer spots draft at night can be an issue in a all mesh inner unless the fly has a snow skirt but then condensation may be an issue if too few vents the only way to have control over all this is to have a inner with mesh zip covers that can be adjusted by opening or closing and having a fly with adequete ventilation which can also be opened and closed but this would cost more and add a bit of weight also would it be possible to pitch the outer fly first attached to the groundsheet and clip the inner not sure when sleeping you are low so side narrowing higher up sit up can still be achieved as the height is reasonable for the weight just some ideas to bounce of from your honest review

Hi Luke!! So I just want to bring up one point I don’t think you really consider. You always talk about tents needing less fabric and more mesh. I think it’s super important to consider the sizes of people in regards of how much mesh and fabric they may or may not need. For example I’m 130lbs and because of that I’m very cold natured. So someone like me would be happier with more fabric and less mesh.. You’re obviously bigger than I am so you would require more mesh and less fabric. I think it’s super important to remember that we’re all
Different shapes and sizes and while this tent may not work for you in may be just right for me or others my size. Thanks for the vids and look forward to more.

Another great no nonsense review! What is your fave 2P UL freestanding tent? Curious. I have the Wechsel Exogen zero 1P which is a little tight with all my gear in it, weighing at 1.48kg I am looking for something bigger 1.5-2p and hopefully lighter.

Appreciate your videos and honest reviews. As a person from Michigan, I was and possibly still will consider this tent for a one man packable budget hunting tent for Oct.-Dec. Do you think this will be a good choice? I would like to think yes, but the lack of ventilation sounds like it could be problematic due to the possibility of condensation. As my sleeping bag is down and already rated at 20°. I have been raided by bears just being curious before on some much more expensive tents, so I'm trying to be easier on the budget just in case.
Basically, I'm just looking for some input. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

A little bit of an unfair review. I don't think there is anything wrong with this tent, it may not be the tent that's right for you in your weather conditions but it is perfectly viable for others. Bringing the right tool for the right job is the user's responsibility. Not the companies.
Naturehike does offer a 2 person tent with a more spacious design and more mesh, the Naturehike Mongar. It has everything you asked for; more spacious interior, more mesh, two doors, and a rain fly that pulls away from the body on both sides. It's made with the same materials, just different design. This seems like a much better shelter for your conditions/use.

Like u said, cool/slightly cold weather use. It seems like this has almost no ventilation.
Question: I have noticed that in a lot of your videos at Lone Wolf Mountain, you set your camps up on the dirt road(s). Even though it is private property, do you have any worries that some trespassers in vehicles may come whipping around a curve and run into your camps? How do you keep unwanted vehicles/people out? Just curious. Stay safe.

I think it would have a whole lot more space if it just used 2 diagonal hoop poles. How much weight did they save with that design compared to the space they lost & ending up with what is essentially a fairly weighty 1p tent.

For me (who runs cool) and where I live, all that lower fabric would be a useful option... I find lightweight tents tend to be all mesh and I can never get cozy even on summer nights where it still usually gets down to 5-10C. But the roof design is an automatic dealbreaker for me.
