    One of the greatest P4P boxers of all time! Roy Jones in his prime was a perfect combination of unmatched speed, power and reflexes. Just imagine how highly he'd be ranked today if he retired after his Heavyweight title win against John Ruiz. www.patreon.com/haNZAgod

      He could arguably be called the greatest boxer of all time if he retired after the Ruiz fight.

      @@robo-man8638 No, he wouldn't. It's a myth that getting whooped by Tarver (et al.) destroyed his legacy; there wasn't really much of a legacy to destroy. His resume is weak--probably the weakest of any fighter anyone is foolish enough to call the GOAT. After a green Hopkins (who at that point was on about equal footing with Segundo Mercado) and a drained Toney whom he'd avoided for 1992/1993, Jones didn't get in the ring with another live body for the better part of a decade. (Vinny Pazienza, really?!) Jones went to embarrassing lengths to avoid quality challengers (Jackson, Nunn, Liles, Tarver, etc.) and not without reason. But he certainly looked flashy beating up on retired cops, taxi drivers, street sweepers, etc. And when getting dropped by Lou Del Valle.

    • @lefez9015
      @lefez9015 5 років тому +20

      @@louduva9849 you say all that but it's Toney' s fault he was drained, not Roy's and Toney didn't face many of those people you named apart from Nunn.

    • @louduva9849
      @louduva9849 5 років тому +4

      @@lefez9015 What does Toney's resume have to do with anything? That said, Toney does have a considerably better resume than Jones. Tim Littles, for example, is a better challenger than any of Jones' opponents at 168 or 175. Ditto Charles Williams. And Iran Barkley. And I don't need to mention Jirov or Holyfield (whom Jones gave the runaround). Nor need I point out that Toney beat Ruiz more impressively, and a load of other heavies Jones wouldn't go near.
      And sure it's Toney's fault he was drained, but then Jones did wait to sign to fight him until after he'd ballooned to cruiserweight (!) to fight Vinson Durham. And Jones never granted a rematch, and it's not as if he was busy fighting murderers.

    His hand speed was so incredible that his looping shots were faster than his opponents straight shots. It's like Buddy McGirt said - there's a lot of things Roy did wrong, but he was so fast nobody could ever take advantage of it. If only he'd gotten out before those reflexes started to slow.

    What weight class was his prime? What weight class was him out of prime?

    • @TFB97
      @TFB97 4 роки тому +2

      Roys prime would either be at super middleweight and Light Heavyweight (until 2004). Soon as he beat Ruiz he had to lose 14 pounds of muscle in just 6 months, which was a big toll on his body. And as well as that, his athletism slowed down, and he was exposed. As he needed his speed and brilliant footwork, to avoid shots. When his footwork went, so did his prime.

      @@TFB97 I'd say his prime was from 94-02 ish.
