They could write it off as member berry tape worm. Something that infested him so you can write an episode of separating that from Mr. Garrison and have the character return to "normal", yet at the same time have all the memories and shame.
It was honestly strange, like, no one actually liked him, even the left didn't like him, literally no one would be mad if he was made fun of.... Maybe that's the issue, low hanging fruit? At least with other politicians, some ppl would be mad

I kinda hope Season 27 begins with a fake out that reveals that both Kamala and Garrison lost against Duck President or something, maybe as a way to make fun of 3rd party voters.
The thing is that I think that would be an issue since most South Park viewers are Libertarians. Like show can make fun of Republicans or Christian conservatives, but at the same time rooted in their ideology (especially when they try to cover viewpoints-like environmentalism and social issues, especially the latter where they aren’t equipped to do so in more social conscious internet culture for better or for worse unlike in previously “sound bites and headlines” informed audience-instead of Hollywood celebrities that look more like attack on the supporters.) And the moment Trump was invited to Libertarian party conference (also before that splintered with Neo liberal disillusion after 2008 recession and younger people no longer interested in it afterwards) they would hesitate making fun of their own fan base. Especially more overt things like that.
@@powerist209 I don’t think the average libertarian would care that much about being made fun of on South Park lmao. Plus Matt and Trey make fun of things they like all the time anyway.
They would 100% make fun of Libertarians. They make fun of literally everyone else. Thing is 3rd party candidates aren’t really funny, it’s just tragic.
@@markborishnikoff5485 I disagreed with Matt Stone and trey Parker's opinion about them hating the first few seasons because I thought that was golden age south park. It is south park. My problem Im facing, and I don't want to lose interest in my favourite show is that it's becoming less cartoon and more of a sitcom. South park is and always will be a cartoon. It was a funny offensive raunchy fun and naughty cartoon that aired when you couldn't get away with much on tv. I don't like that they are starting to explain the jokes now, now Kenny dying for example. He has super powers? I hated that so much. It's a cartoon. I will never forget in space jam when bugs Bunny says that anything is possible in cartoon land. Kenny should be able to die and come back the next episode because it's an unrealistic offensive cartoon. It's just trying too hard to become a sitcom series.
Bro I was WANTING an episode about the Chinese spy balloon so bad. It would be about Mr Kim making giant floating city wok ads that end up flying over the entire US and its mistaken as a spy balloon
I think they're just sick of covering presidents after Trump has been so dominant in American political discussions for almost a decade. Anyone would be tired of talking about politics for a while after that.
This is pretty much exactly their reasoning too, it was funny when their lampooning was extraordinary based off exposing the fallacies, but now it’s already ridiculous so there’s nothing to make fun of, on top of the fact that it’s so transparently stupid and already over covered by media, it’s just boring low-hanging fruit that everyone has already made every conceivable joke about. There’s nothing to expose anymore.
They already did that. it would be repeating a joke. well, it was dog shit, and lets not forget cartman playing with his dog in, the wrong ways. SouthPark could parody a parody, the writers can always make something already ridiculous, even more ridiculous, such as the whole Muhamad thing, its ridiculous that a group of people would go that far to prevent a simple animated version of a prophet to be shown on tv, so what did south park do, make it even more ridiculous. it would be easy to make the dog thing more ridiculous, could have city wok start selling dog.
Stil as Johnny2Cellos, even many of their takes didn’t age well. Especially comparing Kerry and Bush as “Douche vs Turd” since they thought Iraq War isn’t that dumb (keep in mind, hindsight and maybe most of the right takes have wrong metaphor like comparing it to German invading Sudetenland with Kurds or assume that Saddam is some sort of saint). Also the butterfly ballot critics being portrayed as kids who don’t know how to make simple check mark didn’t help.
They wrote themselves into a corner in 2016, and people still showed up to watch it. Mr. Garrison is Trump? That was a new and funny idea at the time. Now it's been eight years. It's been done. It's overdone. Matt and Trey are bored with the gag, and so are (some of?) the fans. You're right. It's simply wise not to do it again and be forced to do four more years of Trump jokes. No matter which side of the American political spectrum you fall under, I'm sure most fans are tired of Mr. Garrison as Trump.

@@damiang888 Honestly, I don't blame them if that's the case. I never felt sorry for them with the Garrison /Trump episodes. They were stupid enough to wrap a canon character into a political figure, they can't bitch about it.
My middle school teacher used the 2000 election episode to teach us about that election, except they censored the parts of the episode that were inappropriate, so the entire thing was about 6/7 minutes total
I think another element here is that South Park has lost the edge they used to have over other other sources of comedic commentary - their speed. It used to be that South Park could have an episode making fun of current events as little as a week after it happened and the rest of the cable ecosystem had no chance of catching up. These days, even in the most optimistic circumstances, by the time South Park has spent a week making an episode about something stupid Trump says, the internet has already run every possible comedic angle into the ground and audiences are sick of hearing about it. They can still comment on general trends in society from their own perspective, but doing direct satire of specific events like campaign speeches or debates is way harder now without just boring people.

Its still interesting to note how rabid the media was with trump, then flipping a 180 and babysitting biden. It adds to the feeling of "why is no one talking about this?"
To be fair, Biden was in the early stages of dementia during his time as president. It's why Harris took over during the recent election. It's a shame they didn't do anything with that...
If they did a 2024 election episode or something, it would need to focus on the media cabal pushing false narratives of outlandish polling in support of either the giant douche or the turd sandwich.
In an interview that Matt & Trey did for Team America, they were asked why they didn't parody George W. in that movie. Their response was "If you want to see Bush-bashing in America you only have to walk about 10 feet to find it. Trey and I are always attracted to what other people aren't doing." In hindsight, this makes the fact that they went after Trump to the level that they did extremely hypocritical. Watching television around the 2015-2016 season was absolutely awful because just about every television show/sitcom...even the non-political shows, were shoving so much "Trump bad, immigration good" propaganda down the viewers throats. South Park had an opportunity to provide everyone an escapism from the political chaos that was occurring in media at the time, but instead they just did the exact same thing that the news, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and just about any other show on were doing. I have not watch the show past Season 20 with the exception of a few episodes/specials that stayed far away from this redundancy.
It feels cheap to me. The most important quote from South Park is "either everything is ok to make fun of, or nothing is". They spent 4 years making trump jokes and it would be nice to balance it out by getting just one episode, one *scene* that pokes fun at Kamala or Biden. Otherwise they're not practicing what they preach.
“Either everything is ok to make fun of or nothing is” is a completely different sentiment. It doesn’t mean “if you make fun of one thing you have to make fun of everything” lol
Thanks! I do think they’re very adamant that they should be allowed to make fun of everyone and everything, but that also means they wanna make the show the way they want to. @blau6832 So complete transparency I am conservative, I have a 2 year degree in firearms technology, I’ve worked in the firearm industry for 5 years and I’ve been shooting competitively for 2 years… So I have to vote like my career depends on it. Alright now that my political side is established, I am very happy he won. Under Biden Harris families with our income are drowning, and it’s really not too fun. Think about it like this Charlie Kirk brings this up a lot, under Trump to buy a home income was 75k~ yearly (I’m using usd I don’t know the conversion) under Biden Harris that yearly income to buy a home has doubled. Now obviously there’s more reasons I’m happy such as the 2a, taxes, ideology/religious reasons…etc. we can get into that later. For workers rights of course I think those are great as do a majority on both sides, I think the difference between us is that most liberals don’t realize that they can leave a garbage job to find better, meanwhile I and most others that think like me understand that moving up should be the goal. If garbage companies want to keep worker then they need to change their ways and treat and pay them better. Unfortunately McDonald’s here was a bad starting off point for the better pay thing, a meal used to be 7-8usd now they are 11-13usd… lol So it kinda proved the point that higher pay will mean more expensive food.
@@blau6832 I'm also a "mind your own business" kinda person but it's hard for me to even say what way I lean with that because I view both sides to have vastly overreaching policies. Well, considering Project 2025 and that spectrum on politics treating South Park as icon might have issues. I mean I think the moment when Libertarian party of all people invited Trump to speak at their rally might have been “it’s over” for them (keep in mind, as much as Matt and Trey hate Trump, their libertarianism has been main political root of their show along with audience…being seen as alternative to liberal leaning Family Guy and Simpsons).
They don’t have to. Just let this Trump be actual Trump being an anti war candidate and is opposed to The Military Industrial Complex and Pensuke and let the whole thing only be like, 4 episodes of the anti war guy, which would be an unexpected but funny and wholesome route they can show to actual Trump
they wanted so bad to avoid having trump on their show, they gave him one of their core characters and backed themselves into a corner for it. "we're not gonna give him the satisfaction of being in the show" would've been much easier if they had him show up in person for 1 or 2 episodes and disappear. their anger against him caused their own problem here.
When he says that trump was the first president to clam a election was stolen i laughed because he must not have heard Hillary Clinton and Al Gore say the election was stolen from them.
“No, it doesn’t kill me because he knows he’s an illegitimate president,” she said. “I believe he understands that the many varying tactics they used, from voter suppression and voter purging to hacking to the false stories - he knows that - there were just a bunch of different reasons why the election turned out like it did.” - Hillary Clinton
From what I have understood is, if they parodied most presidents, they should have done that to Biden as well, at least couple episodes, it wouldn't have hurt anyone If you commit to do something, then do it till the end, basically they came out as superficial and selective all of a sudden
Just write him as a brain-dead puppet (which is what he has been for the last few years) and it then excuses the fact that he doesn't show up in any more episodes.
@@orrorsaness5942 Honestly if they brought in normal trump it would be interesting if him and garrison fought or smthn over who the better trump is And then by the end, trump dies or smthn so they don’t have to write him anymore (because they just don’t want to which is why we haven’t gotten president episodes in a while) and have garrison show up at the White House and get kicked out because that’s not how elections work Then have like, douche head or smthn take office,or something to that affect
That's my perspective too. SOUTH PARK always postured itself as the show that made fun of everyone, so ignoring Biden (a guy who absolutely could be made fun of for things he did, even before his presidency) just reeks of either laziness or bias.
I mean, they did like 2 episodes involving Obama. That's literally all they needed to do, they didn't need to do arcs like they tried for Trump/Garrison
the biggest think to me is how will these age if southpark goes for another 20 years the garrison trump thing will be really stupid and likely politics that are irrelivant in that age you can go back and watch the first few seasons of southpark because they were timeless. the garrison trump stuff is something that will age like dollarstore milk
They give interviews talking openly about how much they despise Trump, and you think it's unreasonable to assume that they are acting out of malice against Trump. How did you manage to remove your own brain surgically? Seems miraculous.
As a Trump voter, I don't care too much. Instead it's just funny that he's apparently caused them so much issue after they underestimated the support Trump had.
exactly. this whole comment section is a big cope lol, matt and trey are funny but they have a massive bias that's glaringly obvious. but people will put their blinders on
They're waiting to see what happens to prevent rushed plotlines and inconsistantcies, it's taxxing to be on top of current events and make a good cartoon. Although, Garison fanart is likely very very very wild considdering the past few months.
American middle-left or actual middle-left? From what one can tell from the show itself, they seem left-libertarian, though that's over more than two decades.
They could have just written (when Trump actually won the IRL presidency) that Mr. Garrison comes back to south park pissed that some random businessman named Trump came out of knowere and stole the election from him. It's a throwaway joke that would then have freed Garrison from the roll.
If they’re tired of parodying Trump, how come they continue to make Garrison a parody of Trump. Just end the whole thing if you’re not going to cover the election.
I would argue that Biden is a gold mine for parody. Democrats's denial of his state, all his gaffes, or even how Biden's absence during his campaign was when his popularity was at his peak among many others,....that been said, maybe Matt and Trey thought that was all over done or they just didn't want to make so many Trump Garrison episodes and having Biden would logically bring Trump/garrison back.
What's to be afraid of? It's just the same jokes rehashed that got them stuck in a creative black hole for four years, they're probably bored and rather wait out this out until they have some actually creative ideas.
South Park just randomly refusing to use actual real Donald Trump pretty much killed that show for me. Every other politician they directly use the person. But for what ever reason they did the whole stupid ass Mr.Garrison stand in for him and it really just ruined the whole show.
Trump made a non-speaking cameo in the episode "The Entity". Of course that way back when the entertainment industry didn't had raging TDS like they do today.
Honestly, the reason why I was really hoping to see South Park parody Biden was simply because the rest of the media wouldn't, and even when the media did all they'd makes jokes about were "lol he's old and forgetful", which was far tamer compared to how Trump (and Bush, Clinton, heck even Obama) would be mocked.
I bet theyre pissed. Not about the political ramifications, but because they're mad that they can't have garrison back. I mean - it's rheir own fault. If they'd turned, say, Cartman's mom into hillary and then HILLARY won, they'd be just as annoyed right now.
I understand what you are saying but it still leads back to them not writing as well as they should have or could have. They were biased. You even quoted them "we arent gonna give him the satisfaction. We will make our own trump character" its their own fault because they didnt think ahead and they let their bias influence the writing.
My theory is theres just nothing funny left to say about the elections in the US. American politics and politicians have pretty much BECOME an episode of south park. You can make the subject funny anymore
People are forgetting Matt and Trey became business owners with Casa Bonita, and realized it's not a bonus venture they can do on the side of the show, but a very real time consuming commitment as managers.
Problem with south park is its become a lot more of a satire news program rather than an adult cartoon. Great to see them returning to there roots abit more in the past year or so
Which wouldn’t be bad if it somehow got people to get into reactionary politics. Like Musk, 4chan, and even X/Twitter. As stated in the video, even it didn’t do well when say…Climate Change/Man Bear Pig being mocked (keep in mind, it was only in US that was treated as hot button issue while other countries had known about it…that or just it was assumed as making fun of person than issues and never questioned creators on their opinions). That or it was funny when satire community is liberal leaning but mainstream is Reagan era “wholesome conservative facade” with crass and rude being seen as sign of rebellion before people like Trump make it normal.
They dont want a repeat of season 20. Although I enjoyed that season a lot, I agree it really went off the rails and the election portion was like, the worst part of it. I like the note they ended on with Garrison saying "we'll see", because that's kinda where I'm at with this whole thing.
Man imagine if they actually went through with making a season during the 2024 election. It would be 2016 ALL OVER AGAIN. Probably a good choice that they decided to say nothing about it.
I honestly feel like covering the 2016 election really messed with their willingness to cover elections, especially with how much it overtook that season
They rarely comment on international geopolitics, they're almost purely domestic. why single out Israel? They dont mention russia, the saudis or literally any other country other than canada. And they rip on jews 24/7
Post-result, I'm glad they didn't want to cover it, because they'd now be stuck putting Garrison back in as the president for 4 more years. At least now they can ignore it and keep him as he is.
I wouldn't be surprised if after 2016, they'll wait and do it post mortem because of how blindsided they were and had to scrape together an entirely different episode, too much work, I'd imagine

Never watched that, but that guy was vaguely familiar. Cory In The House was around the last time I had cable.

People are forgetting Matt and Trey became business owners with Casa Bonita, and realized it's not a bonus venture they can do on the side of the show, but a very real time consuming commitment as managers.
Problem with south park is its become a lot more of a satire news program rather than an adult cartoon. Great to see them returning to there roots abit more in the past year or so
When a normal politician does something stupid it's fun to mock them, when a politician is stupid all the time it just becomes sad.
@@powerist209 Musk is a trust fund baby manchild and 4chan can't decide on a pot to piss in.
Trump has a unique idiolect which is why people like you see him as a joke, even tho he is right on many policies and yes wrong in some other policies
And very very boring
I dunno if Dubya is normal but he definitely is stupid and they made him funny
I'm tired too. Delighted they took a break.
They dont want a repeat of season 20. Although I enjoyed that season a lot, I agree it really went off the rails and the election portion was like, the worst part of it. I like the note they ended on with Garrison saying "we'll see", because that's kinda where I'm at with this whole thing.
Honestly who needs parodies in this economy
Most of this election has been a real life South Park parody. They can't top it.
Meh, everyone being mad at South Park because they think they're pro-politics on the side they dislike is right on brand.
I love the turd sandwich giant douche episode, it's pretty damn accurate no matter the election😂
Vote or die -P diddler
Every 4 years, that episode gets more and more gold 😂
He's not wrong
I honestly refer to candidates like this in real life now. Regularly.
turning fence sitting into an artform
Man imagine if they actually went through with making a season during the 2024 election. It would be 2016 ALL OVER AGAIN. Probably a good choice that they decided to say nothing about it.
I honestly feel like covering the 2016 election really messed with their willingness to cover elections, especially with how much it overtook that season
At this point real life has become South Park. Mark and Trey can't compete with that.
It's certainly afraid to critize Israel and the grip it has on America.
would kill for an AIPAC episode except the I stands for Italy
@@DSVlad with a joke about Tifa and the Senate
They rarely comment on international geopolitics, they're almost purely domestic. why single out Israel? They dont mention russia, the saudis or literally any other country other than canada. And they rip on jews 24/7
@@DrSpaceman42 Israel's influence over American politics is a domestic issue

Post-result, I'm glad they didn't want to cover it, because they'd now be stuck putting Garrison back in as the president for 4 more years. At least now they can ignore it and keep him as he is.
I wouldn't be surprised if after 2016, they'll wait and do it post mortem because of how blindsided they were and had to scrape together an entirely different episode, too much work, I'd imagine
Anybody else find al gore's boss fights in the stick of truth hard I had to sell most of my gear to afford a katana just to beat him and several speed potions
I think that Biden and kamal didn’t really have anything worth parodying. Trump hand a new meme about him every week, and the other presidents had scandles
Are YOU afraid to cover 200 & 201?
Dude I didn't even get to see those episodes until last year
Lol he mentions it all the time.
I beg of South Park not to do anymore trump parodies. They were funny at first but they then dragged on. Just forget trump. Stick to the status quo.
Sorry but this comes off more of, they fucked up with not wanting to depict actual Trump so now we have to excuse their recent bad writing.
They shouldn't have used Mr garrison for Trump they should have just used to Trump for Trump
They wrote themselves into a corner because they were confident trump would lose
I think they should call Garrison Trump by name, but justify it with him being Garrison's *alter ego*
I had no clue the kindergarten election episode was a parody of the 2000 election. Mostly, i just had no idea of when the episode aired as i just watched episodes in a binge around the time of season 16 airing trying to catch up.
So glad they finally learned that baking their own politics into the comedy was a bad idea
looks like theyre gonna have to be on hiatus for 4 more years now
Watching even just the Clinton part, this show was crazy prophetic.
South Park is the best social satire ever. I’m 60 and have been watching it from day one. My 35 year old son calls me to talk about episodes, I raised him right.
Yes, because the last time they tried to predict a political candidate winning they irreversibly screwed up their show beyond repair
Of course they're afraid. They're multi millionaires who don't want to rock the boat.
I’m glad they aren’t. I want them to rip on Sean “Baby oil” Combs aka “butt play” Diddy.
I love you, Johnny. Thank you and you just keep making these wonderful videos. They're the highlight of my day whenever I see a new one.
I don't know why people keep forgetting that Matt and Trey don't care about politics or anything of the sort, they only care about what they think is hilarious(to themselves mostly)
trey and matt don't do a lot of presidential parody because every hack in showbiz already does it to death
