Hear me out… Splatoon Maker
Imagine being able to create your own courses, placing enemies, Shooting 8 Balls, moving objects… just- just think about the possibilities
You would also have to select which agent you want to be, so I don't think Nintendo would create something like that.
I like this idea, but idk if i'm ready for that yet
I hope the Splatoon maker need to make new playable species like Salmonlings or Sharklings, or maybe a movie of Splatoon by Dreamworks Animation

A big adventure mode could be cool, but multiplayer mode is already the main thing in splatoon games, so we need a splatoon game dedicated into adventure mode (without multiplayer)

I could maybe see them doing that as a spin off, but they would NEVER do that for a mainline game

Controversial but i disagree for most games like mario and zelda and if its as good as forgotten land even kirby i do think open world would be great but splatoon just seems like an open world would rip it of its entire essence like unless they make it a mini open world for a story mode similar to bowsers furry in scale it wouldn’t be great because no multiplayer most likely because how would you fight people if you have to go across a giant world

If these three Splatoon games revolve around the theme Squids (Inklings) vs Octopi (Octarians), then I am hoping the next game after Splatoon 3 will have a new theme, like the secrets of humanity. I also expect new enemies as well as some enemies who behave exactly like familiar enemies like the Twintacle Octotrooper and Octo Sniper. (Brand new enemy, same function; what's hero mode without these iconic enemy funcions?)
I want them to expand on the world as much as they can with the new hardware coming.
I have an idea that the standard hub world could become the "adventure mode" where all the game's maps/cities/locations are tied in with some kind of open-world formula. And maybe, you can find unlockables around each area like you can in alterna.
One of splatoon's strong-suits is its world building, while I love the world building to DEATH, I would also love to see some of it in action instead of just reading about it in logs and scrolls. (No shade to the sunken scrolls, I love those too tho)
Truly--I'm a fan mostly because of the world building. The stories themselves are kind of lacking, so I'd love to see a story with developed characters and an interesting play out within the world. Considering how formulaic the last three games have become, I really think they need to throw a complete curveball. They've done it with Zelda, they've done it with Mario. With a steady fanbase and it's new notoriety, why not make a visual novel? An RPG? A new type of multiplayer?
(okay visual novel is kind of insane but I'm thinking like, Persona)
@wistfuloptimist1238 a splatoon VN would absolutely be amazing, it doesn't even have to be like persona, because the splatoon series already has so many fleshed out characters that they could make it work w/o gameplay. (Like the sonic murder mystery vn)
I agree, I imagine you could visit all the hubs and some new ones that would be amazing! And the train stations could go to each hub you've been to and there could be some special places you could sqid jump to!
I personally feel Splatoon 3 was a very rushed lazy mess, the best part was the storymode while everything else, including Side Order, just fells so late and rushed. I would love a Wave 3&4 that focused on Deep Cut in the Splatlands, a coop mode with Deep Cut clans where we treasure hunt with friends. What Splatoon 4 needs to be is like Mario Odyssey, Zelda, or Metroid
Pretty much every adventure mode game Nintendo has made has been amazing (Mario odyssey, BOTW, TOTK, etc.) and a splatoon one would be amazing.
Why does everything have to be open world? Splatoon’s single player is already a great added bonus for lore as is in every game
It makes sense in a game that is heavily focused on world building as a major foundation.
I can see why you would feel that way, I guess we just think it would be exciting and a new breath of fresh air, even if it wouldn't fit a shooter like splatoon very well. But i think its exciting to think about exploring a bunch of new areas and uncover secrets and lore. That's my thoughts atleast
I've been enjoying playing the Splatoon franchise since I was a kid back in summer of 2015 for the Nintendo Wii-U.
I think it's time for the Splatoon franchise to spice things up with Splatoon 4 in the future (like for a example, new enemy species alot more threatening than octarians, tropical/exotic environments, ect).
My main problem with splatoon is that adventure mode doesnt feel like the focus, instead it feels like a side thing which wouldnt be a problem if it wasnt that you have to pay more for the main thing (online)
One thing Nintendo could do in splatoon 4 would be to relive the memories of both splatoon 1,splatoon 2 and splatoon 3 in the past, because for newcomers who bought splatoon 4, it would be great to understand what happened in the past to get to the present and also to have its own story mode explaining that there are other types of creatures besides inklings and octolings and to find out more about the human race, since there may or may not be a hidden human since the human race is extinct.

It doesn't necessarily have to be open world. I just want, in my fast moving third person shooter with tons of mobility options, level design similar to that of Doom 2016.
What if there was a Splatoon spin off where you had to travel to different worlds overrun by Salmonids, like the Mushroom Kingdom, Hyrule, Dream Land, Kanto, etc.
I actually had an idea for a sort of "Splatoon Legends" idea where it's an open world spinoff set during when Mr Grizz returns with some huge army he makes of mammalian creatures, and then you have four main characters that are all fully customizable: Human, Inkling, Octoling, and Salmonling.
Basically, I think it'd be cool to do. I honestly think somewhere that at least a human might be cryogenically preserved somewhere similarly to Judd.
Splatoon should have a Home mode hangout mode and town mode

Side order did shake up the formula though being a rouge-like experience. But that's more it's own things. Although I do hope the they use the rouge like formula elsewhere since (correct me if I'm wrong) isn't this first time Nintendo actually dipped their toes into a rouge-like experience? We've had rouge-like put onto the switch like dead cells and binding of Isaac but not one from Nintendo till now.

When I first started splatoon I assumed the story mode would be something like we play a turf war tournament and it has a story in wit rivals and drama etc and walk around a hub area in between games to buy stuff and upgrade.
I absolutely loved the Side Order campaign and would love to see more campaign's like it
Seeing how JP devs recently have been invested in open world more than before, there is a chance that the next splatoon might also be one of it.

As someone who has been playing Splatoon since I was a little kid In 2015 I can say we DESPERATELY need something new for the Splatoon series I can say while splatoon 3 is a good game it is definitely missing a lot of things needed for a sequel one thing I feel like we desperately need is new ranked modes now while the modes are cool and all I feel like getting a new sequel and not getting new ranked modes honestly is unacceptable IMO and while the 3 campaigns were good it’s definitively getting old WE NEED A NEW TYPE OF CAMPAIGN!!!
I think it has the potencial to be an open world aswell, maybe mixed with a warrior game, where you have to find different objectives through a big map with some of them being bosses or collectables or even upgrades, it would be so cool

A partial open world would be ideal. Sections of the map would be closed off for different modes (main city, dlc) and the rest, outside the city couod be explored.
Multiplayer should be the priority for Splatoon regardless of it being pvp or pve. However, I think they should make spin offs of splatoon that are single-player focused.

7:24 what do you mean “2/3 unique bosses”? There is 3 bosses you can fight excluding the final boss. You can just say 3.
splatoon doesn't really need this. maybe a more expansive story and some more interesting level gimmicks, puzzles etc but it doesn't need to go open world and they don't need to split up the single player and multiplayer in two different games lol. that just means less value to the consumer if they only buy won. worst case scenario
I've thought about this and I think they need to split Splatoon into two different games When the super switch comes out. They should first make a traditional Splatoon game that is ONLY focused on just being an online shooter. Then later in the consoles life cycle they should release a 2nd spin off game that is ONLY a full-blown third person adventure game where you play as a specific named inkling that would become the face of the franchise. You could easily do something where this inkling gains different abilities or reacts differently depending on the color of ink it is using and that would be how it manipulates the environment and overcomes challenges. The current model of shoving a Half Baked solo mode and what is clearly just meant to be an online shooter seems silly.

As a huge Splatoon fan ( I consider it my all time favorite gaming franchise) I used to want this, but after Side Order I kind of don't anymore. I have come to realize with Side Order that I personally like Splatoon best and think it's at its best when the story mode is a test of skill rather than an adventure. I'm all for Splatoon getting a spin off game of some kind, but there's no reason to do a full on adventure style story mode without multiplayer unless it's dlc to the main game. If you're gonna put in the effort to make a new game from the ground up, why not apply it to the multiplayer. This is why we got Splatoon 3 instead of dlc to Splatoon 2. If they want to make an adventure type of story mode then I'd still gladly take, but its not what I would want personally. In terms of spin offs though, I'd much rather have them be saved for new types of games within the franchise, while story modes that play like traditional Splatoon would be saved for new releases or dlc.

In response to the title, I've been asking for this since Splatoon 2! I'm sick and tired of the Mario Galaxy level design, despite my love for Octo Expansion and Return of the Mammalians!

im more of a Mario galaxy guy as apposed to Odyssey, but sunshine is my favorite. i wouldn't mind a bigger Splatoon, but i need platform challenges and wacky levels

Maybe thwy should have the big adventure mode game be like a spinoff game, but that's just my thoughts
Now, I'm not against an open world Splatoon in the style of 3D World or Kirby and the Forgotten Land, but I personally think the next direction should be a Battle Royale like mode. It's okay to disagree with me on this idea.

I love the environment of inkopolis and I’d rather explore similar urban areas to inkopolis than some random void
Would also like all new characters in 4 with no returning characters for the new trilogy as well as entirely new locations with no inkopolis in sight. I’m tired of the recycling.

In my opinion, the perfect thing would be like, 'Splatoon 4' the sequel to this one, with nothing too extraordinary, regular campaign, 1 DLC, just like the ones we have, and the main focus being on PvP, SR, TTB and a new gamemode maybe?
And a spin-off 'Splatoon 'cool name here'' could be a sequel, prequel or a independent story to the main series, but this one being single-player only. with a Open world, loads of new mechanics, and a very very long story mode (~60 hours) and also secondary quests, collectables, etc.. kinda like a Splatoon version of RDR2.
Something i would love to see, but I'm realistic, they'll never make, is a "My Summer Car" but in Splatoon world, or maybe a "Stardew Valley" like game in splatoon world.
I love the idea of the next Splatoon game being a soft reboot of the series and being its own thing
Maybe if we can get the Nintendo 3DS Spocco and the Nintendo Switch Pro, we can have Splatoon 4 releasing Summer 2027 saying Splatoon for Nintendo 3DS Spocco and Nintendo Switch Pro.

I honsety agree with Splatoon implementing a new adventure mode. I was thinking it would take a path similar to Bowers Fury. It would really well with Splatoon's formula of campaign.

Feels like they borrowed assets from Mario Galaxy and Mario Sunshine and called it a different game and that's how we got Splatoon. That's why you are in floating platforms in space covering the ground in ink.

Yeah, I'm not going to lie. The main reason why I lost interest in splatoon 3 is because the main story levels feel like they are just challenges for over achievers, besides, i can never hold onto enough eggs for the weapons upgrades

Also it really cool to see how the developers have learnt how to design a shooter. I think a great example is that the maps at launch were terrible and as the game got new maps they made better ones, now it a few days we will get a new map that is going to be one of the best in the series. The devs have a lot to learn and as long as they don’t rush the next splatoon then it’ll be the best in the series on launch
How about 8v8, or 4v4v4v4 splatfests, 8 player slamon run, battle royale mode, so much they COULD do.
