I made the same mistake with my wife when we started playing together in a fantasy campaign. I said, in an off-hand comment sort of way, that I wasn't interested in my character having a romantic subplot. She took that as a challenge. Our characters wound up together in the end, and our characters' kids wound up being the villain in a campaign that she herself ran years later.
I can only assume it went "happy anniversary, we are going to fight our kids!"

I like how Jester went from a girl who was so bubbly and positive because she was very naïve of the world to a girl who was still bubbly and positive because she knows her new found family needs happiness in their life.

@@AlexPerez-tt9ru bruh if you find that annoying dont watch first campaing, keyleth is always wanting the spotlight, even in conversations she's not participating, some people think marisha wants to show everyone she can roleplay all the time she forgets about the other people at the table, including the dm and ends up beign too melodramatic and/or forced and/or exaggerated
Travis: "They need to do a study on the effects of your DnD character on your natural person..." Challenge accepted. I wrote my Master's Essay on the performative and constructed nature of identity and how it is contextual and dynamic, and intersects with language, emotion and narrative storytelling. I used Travis Willingham's performance of Grog as a demonstration of how one can create and perform an identity.
Why Travis felt stupider/more awkward? Because Identity is basically a bunch of stories in a trenchcoat labelled "narrative". And when you're playing a character so deeply like that, you're taking on their stories. And stories about your life are no more or less real than those of DnD (medically done the memories are even stored in the same part of the brain). Stories refer to what happened in the past and the past doesn't exist anymore, it's an abstract concept. So playing Grog he has this comfortable set of stories, a few narratives you could say, that comprise the identity of Grog, that he picks up and wears every Thursday for years. That can't really just be put down like it's nothing, there's crossover. Some of those stories linger.
Why does that matter or make him feel dumber? Because identity is how we relate to the world. It's the contexts we use to make sense of things. It's like we navigate by the stars. Distance and direction in relation to them, yknow. It affects how we perceive, experience, feel, think, everything. So by having those sticky Grog identities, it is literally impacting how he perceives, thinks and feels.
Hopefully once I've cleaned it up a bit more I can publish it =)
I've experienced thst with some different characters, only being really able to think of approaches and solutions in their terms. You play differently when you're a combat monster as opposed to a political swindler, and not just because of relative strengths and weaknesses.

The way that these guys can talk so intelligently about their characters emotions that even their character isn't aware of, or react in different ways in character than they would IRL is INCREDIBLE I mean I know they're actors, but still that's impressive.

I found it really interesting that we found out that Fjord & Jester knew each other at least a week longer than they knew Beu and then they finally met with the rest of the party. I guess I'm just saying that a lot can happen in a week, which is a very intriguing possibility. thanks for the vid! ; - )

I know I'm late but if people wanna treat Fjord like an asshole concerning his treatment of nott. Episode 52 he straight up pulled one of the most badass moves to save her in the situation campaign thus far with that thunder step. Fjord is a good man and I wont hear anything else.

Meanwhile, during the brief period where my DM curse was broken and me and my girlfriend played DnD together, our decidedly incompatible characters shared a position of group leadership that somehow functioned despite the two of them butting heads CONSTANTLY. Kinda like two sides of the same brain.

Fester is a word. Festered is also a word. Fjestord or other weird spellings happen because of the ship name.
Forester is a word, sure, but it doesn't really have much to do with the two characters in question who are both seafaring/coastal characters.
Sure, "fjesterd" might be a stretch, but I only wrote that because "fjester" doesn't have much of Fjord in it. Regardless, what I originally wrote is based on words that do indeed exist, so let's not get pedantic.
