That's interesting about odd numbers. Here in the UK, the basics of floristry is to use odd numbers of flowers because it gives a more even appearance when making up a bouquet or floral arrangement .especially if one is using several different types of flowers together.
Thank you, Mariya, I love flowers, so it's great to learn their names in Ukrainian. When I message my family there we all share that same love and I struggle to find the equivalent because Google Translate is awful with flower names. Here we also use the Latin names to correctly identify them, if people work in the industry or in horticulture. The common names most people know them by, such as the ones you've kindly provided the Ukrainian translations for here, are how most people identify flowers. Common wildflowers and plants would need their own book for tranlations, there are hundreds of thousands of them! 🤗
Aww, your little baby there is such a cutie! ❤️ I got easily distracted as I love all fur babies. It's okay though because one can just jump back a few seconds.
Hugs to you from across the pond 🇬🇧🇺🇸
    💙✌️💛🇺🇦

Using odd number for a more harmonious arrangement makes so much sense! Thank you for pointing it out.
Oh really? I did not realize that Google Translate does poorly with flower names. Another hack I use for plant translation is searching the plant in one language in Wikipedia and then checking whether there is a Wikipedia page in another language . Wikipedia tend to provide several names including more common ones. Though you may not find some of the less common plants in there either..
Aww thank you:) They get to make a star appearance in my videos once in a while and stealing all the spotlights from Ukrainian language

Aha! That's a good hack, thank you *so* much, that is *really* helpful 🙏
I just tried it for the Daisy (Bellis perennis). There was a drop-down menu, top right. It states how many languages that particular Wikipedia page is available in. Clicked it and it had Ukrainian for that plant, clicked that and got the Вікіпедія page which obviously auto-translates it to 'Стокротки багаторічні'. Wonderful stuff!!! Daisies are one of my favourite wildflowers, those and dandelions, so I absolutely loved it when you provided us with the Ukrainian name for them, Кульбаба, sounds equally as cute in both languages. Dandelions are really remarkable plants with so many qualities, even the yellow flower when dried can be used as a dye. I wonder if that could be used in Pysanky making?
Bless them! Quite rightly so! You can't rewind life's precious moments like you can a video. It's a joy to see people's furry companions, always good to know we connect with likeminded others.
I currently have no one with me but when I eventually move and get settled, I'll visit the nearest shelter and see if anyone chooses me.

As far as I know I've never seen any hints of even vs odd numbers of flowers in the United States, it feels like a Slavic thing to me. "A dozen roses" feels like a very normal thing for someone to buy.
It certainly feels like I see more people carrying bouquets of flowers in Europe than in the United States. (Maybe that's more due to city design?)
"Arrangements" of flowers might be more common in the US, and because those will cost more, and there's more ceremony to them, and usually a vase, too, it all costs so much more that they're way less common.
I love spring: I've got hundreds of flowers, it's so quick and easy to clip a bouquet or two.

Thank you for all this great information 🙏 I did notice how much more expensive flowers are in US. Especially the arrangements you are talking about! And if you also want a delivery - it’s a highway robbery.

Flowers are one of reasons spring is so beautifull.
Btw there is a cake made from seeds of Mak and it is actually very tasty.

I totally agree! There are actually several cakes with Mak -- too bad it is pretty expensive in US unless you have an ethnic store nearby

Great Video, here in New Orleans Louisiana we Celebrate Carnival with Traditional Balls, These require Bouquets 💐.
Many other Americans only think of Flowers for Graduations, Weddings or Funerals.

Thank you! I saw your little doggie! Looks like my daughter’s Chihuahua Luna.
So much detail! I’m going to watch it twice! Some of the customs you mentioned are the same as in Russia, except where giving гвоздика (carnation) was a faux pas, since these were associated with the communist party. This was right after the fall of the Soviet Union, so maybe things are different now. Or with Putin, maybe the гвоздика is back in style. Who knows?
OK, going to watch your video a second time! Молодець!
It looks like your doggie is ready to go out.

Thank you for your continuous support, Steven! My pup is Toy Terrier (friendlier Chihuahuas as they are called). Fun fact - he was born in the same Ukrainian city as me :)
That's a great point about carnations! They are indeed associated with Soviet Union, and may be a bit out of style now - let me ask my mother back in Ukraine. The thoughts about carnations that I shared come from my childhood memories and observations. I guess my point was focused more on not giving red carnations as a gift to someone. But you rightly noticed that there might be different views of carnations now after the invasion.

I watched your video a second time and I had missed your mention of carnations the first time. So my advice would be to just avoid carnations unless it’s for an older veteran as you stated. And no red carnations at all!
By the way, the American English pronunciation of orchid like orkid, no ch, but only k.
And a pedantic English language point: when comparing countable things, like couples, it’s more correct to use the word fewer rather than less, so one would say “fewer couples” instead of “less couples”.
In order for me to know more Ukrainian than Russian by the end of 2023, I need to learn 10 words per day, so I’m off to a great start today thanks to you!

When it comes to donuts instead of flowers, giving 13 donuts is completely fine. This called a “baker’s dozen”. This is in the USA of course.
