I have the Baofeng UV-5RH with blue screen........ it has AM aircraft band on it... granted the audio out of it is crap (distorted almost unintelleigible) probably due to slope detection... so i'm confused.. maybe there is something in the menu that has to be changed... only had for a few days not got into it properly yet....

My UV-5RH has tri-band AND receives airband. I wonder if that depend on software. I have the blue screen layout like on your video. Boufeng shop in aliexpress sold it as having dual band with airband. I was surprised to see it transmits on 200MHz band (did not check how well or power because that is not band alllowed in my country for hams)
Hey Will I’m the guy that did the power tests on these. I’m sure your very aware but just make sure that your in Narrowband mode for the 2m frequencies. Channel spacing on the simplex channels is 12.5 👍🏼 Great video
It's great to find a radio UA-cam channel that takes time to give reviews and information. I just ordered 2 of these via ebay, I'll see which version arrives!! Last purchase was a uv 17. Expected the black screen version, but got the blue screen version. But still, very good radio. At time of comment uv17 not yet chirp compatible.
Yes, it seems to be a bit of a lottery sometimes ordering stuff online. I bought my multiband BF-5RH from www.baofengradio.co.uk and the tri-band version from a seller called global walkie talkie on AliExpress. Yep, still no chirp support for the uv17 but you can get cps software for it from www.miklor.com and the version you'll need is called P15 UV v 1.04. It's not as good as chirp obviously but it's still easier than trying to program from the buttons on the radio. 😎👍
Yes, they updated and revised the names of these radios after I did the video. Unfortunately it seems you can no longer get the "black background screen" version that I have....which is a shame because I quite like it.

I originally purchased A Quansheng UV-K5 The AM quality is terrible! @@SuperRobbo91 my information is probably out of date but basically the 5RH does not have airband receive whereas the 5RM has....but it's not set in stone as some 5RH actually have airband Rx ...you need to check the spec in the advert.

I will have a look for the bf 5rh i currently have the uv9r plus but i only really brought it for the ip rating but this seems brilliant compared to the originals.

@pol.sil.karagkiozi.ipirotis unfortunately these radios cannot be unlocked. Baofeng do not release firmware updates for either of these models and they are what they are and are fixed to transmit on ham bands for your country/region only. ☹️
It says 136-174 and 400-520 on the sticker under the battery on both models but I was able to program 220 in vfo on the tri-band and even 350 as well on the multiband which of course has airband as well

@@dusty.7792 I can only say that the one I bought from www.baofengradio.co.uk is indeed multiband and I have programmed it with all 16 analogue pmr446 channels. The tri-band version I bought from AliExpress also does pmr446 no problem. 👍
@@bigwill4423 Thanks, that is the AM Airband range. What I'm after knowing please, is the steps (aka Channel Spacing) you can scan on. Using my UV5R if I press Menu - 1 - Menu the steps are 2.5k, 5k, 6.25k, 10k, 12.5k, 20k, 25k & 50k you can select any of these and as you increment(or decrease) your frequency it'll change by the selected step. In Europe(& UK) now on AM AIRBAND they've introduced 8.33k spacing. So this means a selected frequency i.e. 118 .025 with 8.33k steps could be 118 .0166 moving up or 118 .033 moving down. So if 8.33k is an option you should be able to key enter any of the above frequencies Can i kindly ask you look at the menu and let me know what the spacing options are, please?

My current airband radio works, but there is noticeable distortion, on the 8.33k frequencies. Whereas, a friend who has an expensive Uniden Airband radio has 8.33k spacing and his reception is crystal clear. However, it has a price premium by a factor of 5!!! I did ask the question of Baofeng but they completely missed my point. lol!

I just use the T6UV v1.1. 8 software from miklor.com. Make sure to "read" from the radio first and then "edit" that file. Don't try to create a new blank file or that will not work. Edit the factory default file with your own settings (in your case pmr446) and all will be fine! 😎👍

Maybe try a better antenna Steve because the standard one isn't that good. I use a nagoya 771 and it's much better. 👍

The official UK boafeng dealer has them both as uv- 5rh you just have to select multi or tri band on the page and both have black screens

Unfortunately not Drew as the GM-5RH is the GMRS version of the radio as far as I am aware and GMRS is not used in the UK which is where i am.
The UV-5RH tri band radio can recieve airband just as the other one can. You must have an older version.

UV-5RH Pro Max (Not a Baofeng site model!) - with Blue screen.. DOES receive 118MHz Air frequencies... it must be what the "Pro Max" name is about.
