  • This is for all Resident Evil/BioHazard fans, a tasking project which we wanted to show for fans of this long lasting legendary game series. This will be the definitive upload of this VHS tape documentary of the first Resident Evil from 1996.
All began in the January of 2021, when one friend from Resident Evil Seamless HD Project (SHDP) Discord was talking about getting this tape from Ebay, which he then did fortunanently.
His friend then recorded the tape with proper video capture tools, including NTSC playback capable VHS player to get this captured in original framerate (59.94fps) and in high quality. Obviously the tape has some wear and aging issues, but nevertheless we were very satisfied with the results. Audio quality is exceptionally good.
Friend of mine also scanned the case covers of the tape, which I decided to add into this video in original, and, in English translation versions. Huge thanks to News Bot from GeminiREbirth Discord from the translations and English subtitles.
My job was to put this puzzle together and slightly enhance the video without actual upscaling, using the footage as it is when I got it.
This was also a sort of history preserving project, as these tapes are rare, and are not going to be good for eternity, since VHS tapes will degrade over the time.
    All the thanks go to:
Dr. Proton - Buying the VHS tape and scanning the covers.
Rammendum - VHS conversion to digital format.
His example video: • Convert VHS: Do not us...
News Bot - Translating the Japanese covers to English and creating the English subtitles for the video.
    LeigiBoy - Spanish subtitles
People at SHDP and GeminiREbirth for support and feedback regarding the cover edits.
And all of the fans out there, let's hope that we will get another 25 years of great Resident Evil/BioHazard games, long live the RE-series!

I remember how i didn't play this game as a kid. Why? It scared the fuck outta me. It's kinda like how you have that first movie to truly scare you. For me, it was the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In my late teens, i rewatch it, not scared. This was the same way this game fucking freaked my out when I was 6 or 7 in 1997 or 1998. I watched my friends play it and still got freaked out. When I had a ps3 and played it in High School in 2009. Didn't scare me but got me introduced into one of my favorite video game franchises.

Awesome. I'm do hope this is archived elsewhere in original uncompressed quality as YT tends to lower it.

Well I made sure that this is uploaded as lossless as possible from the VHS. Conversion was done by other guy who knows how to do proper VHS conversions. Main thing was to get this here on 2K/4K resolution, which unlock the better VP9 codec on UA-cam, allowing better bitrates for footage. But this is nevertheless saved on couple clouds just in case this gets deleted or something.

It looks like it was ripped in progressive & not interlaced. Needed to be ripped interlaced then bob deinterlaced to get the best vhs capture. That is why it looks fuzzy & when people are talking it looks kinda jumpy.

Nope, it's like that originally too, checked that. It was stylized thing back in the day to have alternative framerates or B&W footage angles. And this video contains different framerates anyway, not all is in 59.94fps.

@@doze_d Yeah. Footage like this is tricky stuff. You'll have gameplay (w/framedrops to boot!) at 30 FPS, FMV cutscenes from PS1 at 15 FPS, video footage either recorded at 24 FPS or 30 FPS, etc. ... maybe even som unlucky cuts and stitches here and there.
In general, going for a 60 FPS capture of the NTSC signal is "usually" the best option these days, and it's also the most straight forward approach to use in terms of archival usage and further processing ... 'cause the only way you'd arguably get a better end result would be if you split up every single image/signal source in the video and processed them individually in different ways and reconstructed the original video that way.

@@carnivol & using an s-video output. Thanks for a complete explanation of what my eyeballs were seeing. I hadnt realised the original tape was such a mess.
