The guy playing the Beatles manager is great - the way he goes red, takes his hat off then puts it back in quickly in a panic. I laugh every time I see that bit, and his line about the Beatles doing something "mildly pesky" :D
@@GirGir183 No, the guy who played the Beatles manager in AHDN was Norman Rossington who passed to the great beyond in 1999. The actor in this skit is John Henshaw who would have been 13 in 1964 and therefore much to young to play Paul's grand-nephew.
It's an alternate universe where the Beatles never split and whilst there are nods to the world we know, things are, like, sixties flavoured. I kind of want to visit.
A really funny and clever spoof. For those who are perhaps too young to remember, in 1966 John Lennon caused a furore, by joking that the Beatles were bigger than Jesus. This is obviously a nod to that incident.
The concept of the ' Nasty cup of tea ' was unimaginable in these naive times of peace and prosperity. Real nasty tea has alcohol added. This tradition became documented circa 1984.
Isn't there another old bloke like me here who remembers the controversy when Lennon said the Beatles were 'bigger than Jesus'. It was considered so sacrilegious and cause quite a stir at the time. I am so glad that finally the truth is out. It was all just a big misunderstanding.
That's Philip Pope! Brilliant musician who has made the music and theme tunes for countless great British TV comedies - including, I believe, the "Beatles" songs for these sketches (which are great!).
Oh, boy ..... happy comedy days .............. I wouldn't mind betting Macca had a hand in the parody songs. Maybe Neil Innes though .... Lovely, brilliant Martha Howe-Douglas as the bus clippie.
The whole line about being bigger than cheeses is, I'm afraid, a complete rip off from Sir Terry Pratchett's book Soul Music. The whole exchange in this is lifted virtually verbatim from that.
@@amigabang6157 Allegedly . Reminds me of the interview question to Eric Morecombe, when he was asked what would he and Ernie have been if not comedians . He answered ( without skipping a beat ) Mike and Bernie Winters .
@caverncity Yeah my bad. I actually thought he was knighted, but he's not. He should be though, and I'm sure any comparison you can make to Steve Riks is just coincidental. It's just not his style.
That’s right. The America music industry obviously saw the unparalleled impact and most importantly the money the Beatles phenomenon made so naturally they wanted to replicate that with a home grown version, enter the Monkees, and it worked. I’m not knocking the Monkees, they were great, just saying they were a US made version of the Beatles. Even the name of the band itself is Beatles inspired with the incorrect spelling of the word ‘Monkees’. Two great bands. Going off the subject a bit, a father of one of the Monkees invented Tip-Ex
@caverncity Stevie Riks has a decent Paul McCartney impression, but, his sketches just aren't funny. I personally think these Harry&Paul sketches are miles better but each to there own i suppose.
The accents and mannerisms are dead on.
The guy playing the Beatles manager is great - the way he goes red, takes his hat off then puts it back in quickly in a panic. I laugh every time I see that bit, and his line about the Beatles doing something "mildly pesky" :D
He looks like an older version of the actual actor who played the same role in "A Hard Day's Night". I wonder is it really him.
@@GirGir183 No, the guy who played the Beatles manager in AHDN was Norman Rossington who passed to the great beyond in 1999. The actor in this skit is John Henshaw who would have been 13 in 1964 and therefore much to young to play Paul's grand-nephew.
“Tarbuck’s”
Genius!
Harry and Paul both deserve knighthood.
I dont think they would accept it. They are intelligent.
Just wish they'd do more.
Or even one each.
That would put them in a very dodgy club!
It's an alternate universe where the Beatles never split and whilst there are nods to the world we know, things are, like, sixties flavoured.
I kind of want to visit.
It was funny but it was also amazingly accurate in accent, speech patterns and the references to Beatle films and TV footage. So clever.
The guy who plays Paul is spot on !
A really funny and clever spoof. For those who are perhaps too young to remember, in 1966 John Lennon caused a furore, by joking that the Beatles were bigger than Jesus. This is obviously a nod to that incident.
Thanks for that, Magnus Magnusson.
Doing the garden,
sweeping the drive,
will you still need me,
will you still feed me,
when I'm 40 - 45.
"Have you got a boyfriend Claire?"
"Shut up John"
"UUUUUUUUUURGH"
LMAO
Tarby's face in the background crack me up!
This really is, in my opinion, comedy of the highest grade!!
The look on Tarbucks face when the Beatles are talking to the press - ha - it's like a frozen in time shot - apt for the sketch
I pissed at his frozen gap-toothed smile too
The rhymes in Claire as good as the ones in Michelle.
I love this ❤️😆 never fails to cheer me up ❤️👍
I want more! this is brilliant
where does insane lennon buy his food?
insainsburys! hohohohohohohohohohohohohohohohohohoh
Eight years later, I’m sitting here watching in my dorm room trying not to cackle like a deranged hyena next to my roommate.
If the beatles had never taken drugs; aaaah!
Whoever plays Paul is great
lol, The Beatles universe where they had refused dylans offer and never taken drugs.
and never progressed at all from the mop tops.
This is brilliant.
Tarbucks! That's genius!!
0:35 Alice Lowe 1:57 John Henshaw and at 2:10 that is Philip Pope (the singer in "Only Fools and Horses" that couldn't pronounce his 'R's')
Was Philip Pope playing the scientist in the band on the Bassment Jaxx - Where's Your Head At video?
This would literally be The Beatles if they didn't do drugs and evolve.
1:00 the drum kit on the bus 😂
Brilliance in a sketch.
I don't know if this is funny or I've just grown up watching these two so that my sense of humour is based on the stuff they did.
Trust me. It is funny. :-)
Absolutely pitch perfect.
Absolutely incredible!
Tarbucks Coffee Shop - brilliant !
Tarbucks Tea Shop I reckon, to be more precise ; )
Brilliant sketch!
"I don't believe in Cheeses"- John Lennon
The man with a hat who seems to be their manager was ialso n "Hard days night".
well spotted!
The fabs spot on humour from all the cast very funny as a fan I remember this first time round Harry and Paul perfection
Tiebacks.. Brilliant Only Brits would get this. Bigger than Cheeses
Only just noticed it's a cardboard cutout of Tarbuck behind them while they're talking to the press
Eh!?
It looks like that for a couple of secs, then you see him turning his head at around 2:19.
I might have known you'd be in here doing something mildly pesky!
John Henshaw is a great actor, and I love his character in these skits (the name is hilarious too - Trubshawe! x-D)
How did this guy just HAPPEN to wander into this tea-shop where The Beatles were?
ooh err, holy cheeses and the great fox pass, who'd a thort.
..’Where does insane Lennon buys his cheeses’
InSainsbury’s ….😂😂😂.. think I’ll pinch that …
These two are the princes of parody
he really sounds like paul...
The concept of the ' Nasty cup of tea ' was unimaginable in these naive times of peace and prosperity.
Real nasty tea has alcohol added. This tradition became documented circa 1984.
Never seen this, ruddy luvvit, it's gear!
Michael Michael Michael! Tell me 'bout the lady boys..
Isn't there another old bloke like me here who remembers the controversy when Lennon said the Beatles were 'bigger than Jesus'. It was considered so sacrilegious and cause quite a stir at the time.
I am so glad that finally the truth is out. It was all just a big misunderstanding.
Tarbucks!!! It's just an S off Starbuck's. What a piece of luck.
The guy that plays Ringo is my fav
Brilliant.
it would be amazing if mcartney was bob mortimer and ringo was vic reeves. then you'd have the true Beatles Of Comedy
No because it would be utter shit, unfunny and utter shit
Insane-sburys 😂
@ethanman101 no its not a cardboard cut out, its a real fella. Your getting mixed up with the real Tarbuck, now he is cardboard.
Tarbuck's 😂😂😂
@PowerThirteen What's brilliant is that he's been in the films with the real Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour, Help! and A Hard Day's Night
Briliant
Don't worry you can skitt us our shoulders are wide enough
Awesome!
This is absolute genius, absolute fucking genius...
Ladies and Gentlemen, - It's the Boris Johnson Four!
I feel disturbed by this
F**king pmsl .. when they into too Tarbucks , there’s Tarbie 😂😂😂
They into too?
The bloke played The Journalist with the bald head and glasses also played the Singing Dustman in Only fool's and horses.
That's Philip Pope! Brilliant musician who has made the music and theme tunes for countless great British TV comedies - including, I believe, the "Beatles" songs for these sketches (which are great!).
Saying you’re bigger then cheeses is big no no! 😲
Proper need Tarbucks right now
tarbucks😂😂
Scary because their start wasnt a million miles away from this lol
Tarbucks.....hilarious!
Oh, boy ..... happy comedy days .............. I wouldn't mind betting Macca had a hand in the parody songs. Maybe Neil Innes though .... Lovely, brilliant Martha Howe-Douglas as the bus clippie.
Is this the new beatles song? brilliant.
Clare the bus conductor played a Detective Constable in The Bill.
It's not Julia Davis from JAM, is it?
Cheeses
You’re insane Lennon
You're*
@Illidan360 no you cant but you could in the sixties which this is trying to be but with an updated backdrop
WOW, Peter Jackson did a great job
Laffin in 2024
Tarbucks 😁😁🇬🇧
So good. Tarbucks Haha
The whole line about being bigger than cheeses is, I'm afraid, a complete rip off from Sir Terry Pratchett's book Soul Music. The whole exchange in this is lifted virtually verbatim from that.
Bring back the ruttles !
Rutles even. Unfortunately Neil Innes is no longer with us
I dont think you have looked at the video.
1:14 = Used to be all the rage
What’s Tarbucks about?
Jimmy Tarbuck is a comedian.
@@amigabang6157 Allegedly . Reminds me of the interview question to Eric Morecombe, when he was asked what would he and Ernie have been if not comedians . He answered ( without skipping a beat ) Mike and Bernie Winters .
it is allowed to smoke aboard public transport in London?
Nope, but in the 60s, sure. I know its been 6 years getting an answer to that question...but better late than never eh?
only if you're the beatles
@caverncity Yeah my bad. I actually thought he was knighted, but he's not. He should be though, and I'm sure any comparison you can make to Steve Riks is just coincidental. It's just not his style.
He nicked this from Stevie Riks! Haha haha 😂
Close call - they're both about 10 years old, but I'd guess this was in development beforehand. Both funny though
You gorra luv Tarby : Ho ho ho ho ho
Did he say "Hip parade"
Alice Lowe as the clippie?
Is it? I thought it was Julia Davis from JAM.
The bigger than cheeses joke started with The Rutles didn't it?
+GracieVision Actually, The Rutles were bigger than Rod. Rod Stewart wouldn't be big for another 8 years.
However, the mocking of cheeses did originate with Monty Python...
ua-cam.com/video/r2YdK4VrHWE/v-deo.html
I think it gets best around 1:58 XD
I wonder why the "1:58" in your comment is not showing up as a link?
🌝
It’s that man again the talent less zone jimmy tarbrush
Very funny
Coolness would not exist save for drugs.
" the hit parade"
This is obviously a piss take of series like The Monkees, even the theme is similar
Well done, but the Monkees TV series was a piss take of the Beatles films "A Hard Days Night" & "Help"
mart0the0tart It wasn't a piss take of those films, it was capitalisation.
That’s right. The America music industry obviously saw the unparalleled impact and most importantly the money the Beatles phenomenon made so naturally they wanted to replicate that with a home grown version, enter the Monkees, and it worked. Yes, and that Japanese film seven samurai was clearly just a rip off of the magnificent seven.🙄
Michael Nesmith’s mother invented the correction fluid, think it was called Liquid Paper.
@SL1200Ltd nope
@brandedhousecat Since when has Paul Whitehouse been a Sir. Also this sketch is only a year old not years unlike Steve's
Give them beards or moustaches and glasses 🤦♂️
@caverncity Stevie Riks has a decent Paul McCartney impression, but, his sketches just aren't funny. I personally think these Harry&Paul sketches are miles better but each to there own i suppose.
genius comedy...of course ...all it needs is Bob mortimer...but hey I disagree harry Paul and the team were perfect
