  • Hey there. In this video, I share my experience at the 2017 Polyglot Conference. This event happened from October 27th -29th in Reykjavík, Iceland in the Harpa Conference Center & Music Hall. As a budding polyglot, I had my reservations about attending and in this video I explain what it was like to attend a conference like this for the first time.
On my blog "From Foreign to Familiar," I talk about what it is like to learn Icelandic and I share lots of great resources on language learning.

I had no idea there was such a conference. Fascinating. Great video and enjoyed your thoughts and hearing about your experience. I've always found languages so interesting and when I was younger, studied a number of languages, some more fully than others. It was always wonderful. Great advice for life! Thanks.

Thank you for sharing this Jewells! I remember meeting people around the time of this conference and thinking it's probably only for the fluently multilingual. I have a keen interest in languages and language learning too and definitely would have considered it if I had known about it. What you encouraged people to do is good - appreciate the journey!
PS. Slovenia is beautiful!! A great opportunity to travel too :)

Thanks for the comment, Tabitha. I am glad that this video is spreading the word that the conference is for everyone that loves languages. Yay for an interest in language. I hope your Icelandic studies are going well. What other languages are you interested in learning?
I really hope to attend the conference in Slovenia. I just need to find some affordable tickets from Iceland.

My pleasure and thanks for watching. Until I spoke to people at the event, I had no idea others felt that way as well.

Thank you for the lovely comment. I work in digital marketing and I studied Biomedical engineering in school. My husband is Icelandic and that is why I ended up in Iceland.
There are many skills that I learned in school that have helped me in Iceland, including how to solve problems effectively.
