One time at a lake I looked around and my three year old son wasn’t there by the water. I got up looked around began to panic my mouth became dry my hearing became dimmer. My gut was gripped in fear. It happened very quickly. He was found in a few minutes. I got stuck in that mode for about two weeks. I couldn’t snap out of it. I was out of myself. I have been diagnosed with CPTSD from severe constant child abuse. I get stuck In Flight or flight very often in fact I think I’m just stuck in it period. To be out of it would not be normal to me. I’ve pretty much always felt exhausted even as a small kid.
Where can I find more information on how to fix this? You seemed to nail exactly what’s going on with me. I keep trying to gather all the crumbs of exactly how I got to the dysregulation that I’m experiencing. I feel in over my head trying to figure out how to heal.
This lady has some great videos on it if you go from oldest to newest and start at the beginning. ua-cam.com/video/RPyzPH8sB2/v-deo.html Patrick Teehan is also great. Both helped me SO much xx
All of this can be complicated to resolve when there are actual (perceived) threats in the present environment - say, you're scared of dying from Covid or, you're not scared of Covid but you're scared of government overreach and vax mandates ... either way, you're in a state of flight-fight which links up with your pre-existing fears and intensifies your dysregulation. How does one regulate under such circumstances ... it's hard.
Being regulated means matching your threat response to the actual level of threat you are experiencing. Of course, being able to tell what the latter is is the hard part! Being in fight-flight when being chased by a lion is a good thing.
