    Love the video. I'm planning on making a skimboard as a fun project for me. Do you think I could use regular polystyrene foam I have access to 2x4x 1inch foam very cheap. Would I need a stringer for extra strengths.

    Hi! Thanks for the video! What density foam do you use?

    • @youmakmesik
      @youmakmesik  2 роки тому +2

      i use a 2# density as its readily available, 3# is heavier and harder to come by

    Nice. Where'd you get the template for the board? Do you have a website with the foam or the templates?

      I designed the shape in my Cad system then cut it out in Cardboard on a CNC table and then cut the shape out in Masonite to use on multiple boards.

    Another question. If I made a board 40inchx 21inchx 1inch slight taper. Basically leaf shape would it carry me at 80kg

      Look at decathlon boards the bighest one is 136cm and is up to 85kg

      Make sure u use the correct resin with the correct foam
      The finish coat of resin takes finesse
      You could hand mix, pour over board and pop air bubbles with a heat source. Dont mix too vigorously as this creates air bubbles.
      I evacuate my resin in a chamber with a vacuum pump for 2 min. This pulls out the air from the resin. Be quick as most resins only have a 15min pot life. The larger the stir container the longer the pot life. Dont mix in a small container, will harden fast.
      If u use a chamber to evacuate make sure your stir container is large cuz the resin will expand.
      Plastic is your friend. Buy lg roll of 4-6mil. Lay ontop of working table and on ground below as resin wont stick to it and cleanup is easy.
      If indoors wear a respirator, the right one for fumes.
      I use the cheap hair paint brushes to spread resin but be sure to run them over a table edge to remove loose hairs prior.
      Have extra paint buckets and 6” spreaders ready and handy within reach. As the resin sets up you are moving fast.
      A good painters tape is your friend to tape edgewhen applying final resin coat.
      Cut v shapes in cloth at corners and tip to avoid over layering of glass.
      Hevier glass on top to support your weight. I put 1 on bottom 2 in top
      Or maybey reinforce where your feet hit. I use 6oz glass . Bought big roll.
      Have 200-1000-1500 grit paper available for finishing gloss coat
      After 1500 a good automotive polishing compound will work
      I uss mcguires.
      I polish with a milwauki buffer and a buffing head. Two types
      Foam convoluted pad, has bumps then the standard long hair pad.
      I dont put a stringer. If the boad breaks ill just make another.
      Goodluck

    Where to buy eps foam?

    • @youmakmesik
      @youmakmesik  2 роки тому +1

      You can try the Foam Store, find them on the internet. Not where I source my material from. I go straight to the source. Goodluck Search EPS foam or Styrene blanks on the Web. I sell rectangle blanks and skimboard blanks with the rockers cut in them either shaped with our flagship shape or rectangle with rockers. Goodluck

    How much for the blanks? How much for shipping?

    • @youmakmesik
      @youmakmesik  2 роки тому

      Blanks are $65.oo - shipping depends on your location, a big box is needed. Just need a city and zip to check shipping.
      thanks
