Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad: Return of 302!

- On October 15, 2023, I had heard that Hobo Railroad SW1001 1590 had broken down, and that GP7 302 would be taking its place on the Lakeport Local train. 302 is an EMD GP7 built for the Rock Island Railroad. It arrived on Hobo property in 1999-2000 and was rebuilt with a short nose for cab visibility, and given Hobo red. It was typically assigned to the Meredith trains in tandem with Alco S1 1008 until 1012's arrival in 2014. 302 saw limited service, mainly only for freight runs since. On this day 302 was once again called to action after almost 10 years of not pulling a passenger train.
Note that the train was running late, so they were not able to make it all the way to Lakeport. I made up for it with two new spots that I will use in the future. So follow along as we chase this rare power during fall foliage season.
Thanks for watching, make sure to subscribe and see you in the next one!
Great catches and awesome video
Nice!🙂🙂
Thanks for watching!
Great video well done!
Great catches of it
Also as much as 302 was the star of that weekend but man it’s great hearing that lovely m3 back on the caboose
Strange fact, the horn isn’t fouled at all. It’s the sand cast 2 and 3 bells fighting the narrow font 1 bell
Nice video! I was an engineer there when 1012 and 1590 came on board; Qualified on 1008 but within a week or so we were using 302 on the local (forget why). Glad to see a familiar face in the seat.
Nice to hear it. 1008 went OOS in August of 2014, that could be why you never ran it(?)
@@Mountaindivisionrailfan252 Thinking back, I believe it was an issue with one of the traction motors.
@@ottoseer Do you remember 1186 ever running out of Meredith around that time? 1186 spent summer 2014 in Meredith.
@@brendangranger3684 All I remember of 1186 is it has a white "bicycle handle" grip on the automatic brake, and an imbalance in the main gen, that you can feel in the cab when it's running in the middle of it's RPM range
