- After a spell of illness consuming our household, we are attempting to get back on track with this mornings video. Still not completely 100%, we are all still feeling a little groggy, but nowhere close to what we were like!

Congratulations on Emilias birthday, how old is Emilia now ? My niece and nephew celebrated Sinterklaas on 5th december, so they got presents too. Sinterklaas aka Saint Nicholas is the holy man the Coca Cola company took the story from and created Santa Claus and added reindeer and elves from Scandinavian countries folklore. Makes sense since the Dutch founded New Amsterdam what was later renamed to New York, so they took the story of Sinterklaas with them to the US. Sinterklaas comes by steamboat filled with presents for the children from Spain. Most towns and cities have assistant sinterklaas's coming into town on a boat with his helpers the Pieten. There is a big parade in every town where Sinterklaas rides into town on his big white horse and his helpers the Pieten hand out special Sinterklaas candy that is only made in December to hundreds of children in every town.They have special Sinterklaas news on tv every evening with a story until the 5th of December. It always involves a story of presents gone missing, so that creates a little suspense. This time the storyline was that the steamboat with presents sank to the bottom of the North Sea. They over did it a little this time as parents had crying children at night not wqnting to go to bed in the entire country, because they were worried they wouldnt get presents from Sinterklaas. The children usually put their shoes at the door with a carrot in it for Sinterklaas his white horse Americo. Santa Claus we celebrate too at the end of the month so all children get presents 2 differentcdays in December. Santa Claus is basically Sinterklaas, but with a little twisting of the story by the Coca Cola company. They did a great marketing campagne creating Santa Claus as now a lot of countries celebrate Santa Claus. Just like the Bears company created a marketing campaign decades ago holding diamonds back from jewellers and saying diamonds are rare stones that are hard to come by and that a man should pay 3 months of salary for a diamond wedding ring for his soon to be wife. Till this day the majority of people believe that, but reality is that every jewellery store in the world has jewellery with diamonds, so diamonds are not rare at all. They are also a bad investment as they always sell for less than you buy them for.

@@EWClips We celebrate Sinterklaas on 5th of December and Santa Claus with Christmas on the 25th (who stems from or is also Sinterklaas) Children get presents / gifts 2 times at beginning and end of December. My nieces have their birtdays are on 6th and 7th december and me on 16 december, so we get gifts 3 times .There are 5 other countries in Europe who celebrate Sinterklaas as will, but a more darker version of him with people dressed as a demon who rings bells on the streets. At the islands in the Carribean which were once part of the Netherlands they have a more reggae singing Sinterklaas. Those people who are already black paint their faces even more black to act as the the helpers of Sinterklaas called Pieten.
