Great video. The lack of rust under that car is amazing to me you must be in a dry salt free location. Not even any rust on the hose clamps under the wheel arch. No wonder all those bolts came loose easily. The orientation of your top mount arrows is correct

Thanks Simon. You're not from the UK by any chance? I see a surprising amount of rust when watching videos of 996's in the UK. From the Carfax, the car has been owned in MA, CT and NJ. All states that are known to treat their roads with salt in the winter. I just think that the car led a charmed life, probably garaged and stored during the winters. It had an average of 3500 miles per year so not likely it was ever driven daily.

My 981 S 2013 with over 100k on the clock has the bonnet all chipped up thanks to the salt here in the UK - South West. I find it a disgrace: safety on roads is critical but must not come at the expense of our dear and expensive machinery. Excellent video. I am about to install a set of Bilstein B16 DampTronic (the 981 S has PASM) and your video just helps build confidence. The set of instructions that came with the Bilstein coilovers is just a disgrace: there is a diagram (basically a shock and a spring - no wording or references other than OE or B!) and a table with M reference bolts (10/12...) and next to them some torque figures without even showing where the bolts are! Wish me luck!

When removing thr brake warning wires it is best to leave them connected, just remove the securing bolt, lest they crumble!
