I love that Trevor not only interviews people who are already well-known, he also introduces us to amazing, inspiring people we may have never known about without him helping to give them a platform to tell their stories.
Great interview. Looks like Richard and I are similar in ages. I was brought back to my HS band days. My best friend played Tuba and is the kind of guy that could pick up almost any instrument and play it in a short period of time. Every spring state HS music contests would take place. I remember Bryan scheduled to perform a top tier solo piece on Tuba. Well it didn't go as expected. About half a minute into the piece, the judge stopped him saying, "I've heard enough." Bryan left with a perfect score for the piece.
I grew up in Albuquerque, my parents regularly took me to classical music performances as a child, and I’ve seen Richard performing on tuba in the orchestra for as long as I can remember. So exciting to see him featured here!
Overcoming is incredible. Love this story. I hope he inspires more youth from this background. It's so hard for some of our young people, and they need to know what's possible.
Wow it's incredible how Trevor's questions motivate your curiosity to want to know more about guests and their journey or topic. This guest had a lot to teach us about determination. It's important to know what they learned and what we can learn from it. I remember when he interviewed Ernest Cline of Ready Player One and Two. I would have never read those books, but after Trevor talked about the themes such as human connection, empathy, and identity it peaked my curiosity. I got the book and read it. Enjoyed it. Will read Mr White's book too.
My 9 yr old daughter said she wants to quit Chinese lesson and do music instead and she chose the Tuba so I had to get on here to find a black tuba player to show to her to help motivate her being black in Japan. Thanks Richard!!
What an incredible story; from poverty and desire to international fame. A true example of a positive mind, faith and willpower. A delightful and inspiring story. Thank you for sharing.

This... just made life better. And I found it, searching for more info about Richard, WHILE listening to the also awesome interview on NPR's Fresh Air (thank you KNKX!) Now for some of his music! And... spreading more tuba love, have you heard of Tubaluba? "... a NOLA-flavored brass funk band." Spread and share great music! Thanks again Trevor and Richard Antoine White!
Richard is a beautiful man! I lived close to Baltimore the majority of my life. Played in Baltimore and DC in my younger days. Thanks Trevor for introducing him.
Great interview! Beautiful, inspiring story! Trevor and Richard have great chemistry! Maybe they could do something together! A comedy act accompanied by a tuba! 😊
*HOW is he not playing his tuba on the show?!* HOW do you let that astonishing musician leave that building with not a single note played?! Would you let Jimi Hendrix just sit there and talk and then just go with not a note played? Lady Gaga? Prince? Victor Wooten? *What is wrong with you people?*
Jada, Michael Jai White, and now Richard here, they all said that Tupac was really a nerd. So he must have willingly and knowingly entered that dangerous lifestyle.
I do love stories like this. But it often sends the wrong message "I can do it, everyone can do it, you just have to really want to". That's a lie, he is exceptional, so he made it. But along the way, he could have died a thousands death. And still, only because others saw his talent, did he make it. We sadly know, many have talents, but never get the chance. And worse, many don't have talent, and they suffer their whole life in this society we decided to create.
Trevor is a beautiful person. From what I have seen, he makes people feel comfortable, let's their intelligence shine and treats them with dignity. I love listening to him. Love that accent and he is fine....😘
Wow this guy personally knew Tupac? Yeah he does come across as very articulate in his songs in the few I've heard. Like he lets you know where he's coming from and he seems like he knows what he's talking about. I want to hear this guy beatbox though that's cool. I haven't heard beatboxing in a long time

I love how he finds people to inspire us, who are not in the lime light.
Yea me too📚❤️ every book I have bought from these interviews have been amazing and inspiring. Currently reading Between the world and me.
Each person might be new to someone.
Indeed, I am reading so many of these luminaries memoirs that he interviews.
I feel the same.
What an incredible story and his attitude is unstoppable!

Tupac should have never gotten himself mixed up with people who weren't on his level. He would still be alive today if he didn't.

Finding an intended lesson needed in growth❤.
THXXX! #failing
This man has a GLOW to him! I just want to watch and listen and enjoy the shine!
I’m excited to read his new book. I’ll bet it’s very minimally about tuba.

Horrible decor, not fitting the show or Trevor. Not suitable for comedy. Other than that, keep on rocking Noah!
☺☺☺
