  • Learn the best way to clean your plastic home items, formatted in this simple step by step guide. In this guide, you will learn how to easily clean plastic around your home, no matter how stained your tupperware is.
For plastic dishware or tupperware, start with powerful cleaning solutions. We love Dawn Powerwash Dish Spray - it has 5x faster grease cleaning power vs. regular Dawn, and it couldn’t be easier to use. Just spray, wipe, and rinse. For serious stains, let sit for 5 minutes before rinsing. You can also skip the hand wash and just use your dishwasher! Just double check the bottom of your dish to ensure it is dishwasher safe before doing so. If it is, place it in the top rack and run your dishwasher with a Cascade ActionPac.
If you’re feeling crafty, you can try a DIY stain remover. Baking soda is especially great for cleaning plastic because it absorbs any funky odors that the plastic may have soaked up. Rinse the plastic item with hot water to get all the food out. Sprinkle on baking soda with a bit of water to make a paste. Scrub the paste with a sponge or scrubber. Rinse. Wash with Dawn Dish Soap and warm water. Rinse with clean water, and air dry in the dish drying rack.
Got denture tablets on hand? These are designed to remove discoloration, so they’re a great solution to try taking that weird stain off of your plastic. Add a couple denture tablets to hot water in a larger pot and submerge your plastic tupperware in the solution. Soak overnight, or until the stains are lightened or gone. Wash with Dawn Dish Soap and warm water. Rinse with clean warm water, and air dry.
To clean other plastic in your home, like your remote control, you can use a pinch of rubbing alcohol from your medicine cabinet. First, remove the batteries from the remote (or unplug your device, or otherwise remove power from whatever you are cleaning). Don’t over saturate the remote or let liquid seep in between the buttons. Alcohol dries really quickly, so this shouldn’t be a problem. Don’t just put the solution directly onto the remote, apply it with a rag or cotton ball.
Dip a cotton ball or cloth into rubbing alcohol. Shake off any excess liquid. Wipe down the entire surface of the remote. Use an alcohol soaked Q-tip to carefully clean around the buttons. Let air dry.
You can hand wash plastic toys with a gentle soap - we love Dawn Free & Clear for this. But many plastic toys are actually dishwasher safe, so double check to make sure, and save yourself a little time!
