It was nice of the "brother" to end the letter with the completely irrelevant information about her dad being a builder. I guess as a participant you might be too caught up in the experience to notice how forced that seems but as a viewer it stands out like dogs balls.
This episode was mind opening when I first watched it, as it provided a very convincing and logical explanation of how these things work. I don’t believe in life after death either. I remember when it was fashionable for school kids to get together and play with a ouija board. Once a group of my colleagues were doing it in the school I attended, and a huge glass window nearby shattered to pieces. Another time, my not so distant neighbour which was also in my class, and our school mates played with the board in her house and they all distinctly heard loud steps upstairs. Many people, myself included, reported hearing steps on my father’s house attic. In Rome, an unplugged printer turned on and started spitting paper sheets. My sceptical sister and I witnessed it, among other unusual occurrences.
The glasses and ball moved with strings, the photos are of real people sitting in flats probably watching this, he used probability to say that everyone who can properly do maths would pick Jane, he used hypnosis to make the two woman spell London. Darren is amazing.
Early in the photo "choice" selection I could tell it was directing to Jane, in what direction to move; there was a similar puzzle game I recall from my childhood that "forces" the selection to a specific aspect. I think Penn & Teller have done this trick as well.
So at the time of choosing a face, I knew that Jane was arranged to be the focus and if you were following his directions properly she's the only one you CAN finish on. But can someone explain the London/Harry the cat/ill Gran/dad the builder? How did Derren subtly provide that info? I love Derren, and even though you know fine well he doesn't believe he does an excellent job of being honest and deceiving in his manner of performing.
Michael Typically Derren reveals who is an actor at some point, I don’t think he did in this one. Actually I think he stated at the start none of them were actors and it wouldn’t be all that impressive to have a core portion just the result of the main person being in on it. It still baffles me though,
Jaspercat91 I know what you mean. I grew up watching Derren and I loved all his shows. But rewatching them all recently as an adult certain things just seem so fishy. Sally’s reaction in room 7 when she wanted to get out, just screamed bad acting to me. And as you said, how could she possibly say the info in that letter? I don’t want to believe he used stooges but now I can’t help but wonder if he did!
Michael it would devastate the belief my younger self had in him if he was without at some point revealing it. Hoping that never comes out! At least there’s truth to his live shows - I’ve never had the pleasure but my sister has been twice and was plucked out of the audience once and was balled over by what happened so at least there’s that!
Jaspercat91 oh me too. He’s done so many belters I’ll forgive him though. Ya don’t get proper good tele like that nowadays. I saw him live years back. My gf broke up with me on the way home because I shouted at her for being late. Show was good though lol.
This was aired for the first time in late 2008 , look at derren, he's got a full head of hair (all be it , receding and thinning ) in his newest of shows he is completely bald.
Now we all know why people have to grab their hands each other during seance. When one of them "get scared" it propagate through their hands and everybody shares the feeling. Our mind does the rest for us to recognize some presence in the place. I really want to join this myself.
You are probably right! I was listening to a podcast called ''Uncanny'' by Danny Robins on BBC Sounds late at night, and it absolutely put me on my mettle for seeing things in the dark..I had to put the light on.
I was texting someone when he was giving the instructions for the photo to pick. The bits that I did listen to made me go to Jane. I also liked her face and expression for some reason. Also, Darren is one strapping lad!
Freak out guy just had a very serious panic attack. His mind ran wild with all the zuggestion that was put 2 him and the whole scenario he was in. We have all had them. Its when you feel like you are no longer in control of your own body.
@@sehbanaliakbar9882 Because he never explains in the start of the show, it is super misleading (and frankly irresponsible) for viewers that are not familiar with how hypnosis works...
I have to admit that I was also drawn towards the picture of Jane however, I didn’t get the feeling that she had passed away…quite the opposite in fact. When you asked to think about the qualities of the person we focused on, instead of thinking “she was” a loving, generous etc. person, I thought “she is” a loving, generous etc. person. It didn’t click why I thought of her in present tense (rather than past) until the very end.

Oh i get it, is this up loaded again because of the ‘sylvia browne end of days’ prophecies how she predicted the coronavirus in her book,? Because I was just researching about her and ‘remote viewing ‘, then all of a sudden I got a notification of this video ! Spokey
Derren's line about preselecting audience members who showed varying levels of suggestibility got me to thinking; back in the day during the height of the Spiritualism Movement, the suggestibility level of the average seance attendee would be higher and it'd be far easier to deduce if you weren't aware by the advertisement for the seance itself. Think about it; you live in late 1890s America or Britain and you see a flyer for this newfangled thingamajig named a seance, where this medium guy/gal is supposed to send and receive messages from the spirit world in front of a crowd of spectators. You've never heard of such a thing before so your curiosity gets the better of you and you attend, where you witness things you cannot explain and most of the people who witnessed them along with you can't explain them either. And sure there'd be skeptics at the time ie Harry Houdini, Harry Price, but most people you'd encounter would at the very least be open to the idea of communing with the dead.
Adrenaline causes shivers. The initial stunts with the spirit box were meant to kick-start that, and it cascades from there with the parlour trick where the same person (largely) is identified as the spirit, a member of the group is isolated and people will worry about them etc. Once you have a group worked up enough they'll all feel inexplicably cold, which just continues to amplify the effect and increase the likelihood that people will buy into the idea it is real. And once you have someone questioning whether a ghost really is in the room, it won't take much to amp them up even further. I actually went to a Victorian séance act on a stag do (of all things) and it was legit as freaky as this. And we are all scientific, DTE dudes. We knew going in that it was a parlour trick, but with enough of an atmosphere and some simple but effective sleights of hand you can get anyone into the mood. Plus also, yeah - old buildings in London are cold 😉
No matter what picture you choose you will always go to "Jane". Do it yourselves...oh you little!.. and I'm not from an English speaking country. But from Europe and its a country with a west and south coast to the Atlantic and we are near Spain. Oh my god! How did you guess Peter? You'll get a call this evening from your Mum and dad... I think derren should do a special where he talks to the participants so many years later.
Have you seen the vid about the guy with the shaved head that went in the seance booth? Look up Behind the Mischief, it's really cool.
@@jayeff8096 Thanks for the recommendation! That's awesome that guy became a co writer!
This special features a lot of paranormal situations. Great to watch during Halloween!
Yes Darren - THIS is my longtime FAV!! You rock, sir!
Right, amazing human
The most likely scenario is the answer.
So, what’s the convincing and logical explanation?
I still believe this is Derren's best production
The glasses and ball moved with strings, the photos are of real people sitting in flats probably watching this, he used probability to say that everyone who can properly do maths would pick Jane, he used hypnosis to make the two woman spell London. Darren is amazing.
I want him to make an ASMR video for some reason I think it would be hilarious and relaxing at the same time
Like bro his voice is so relaxing he could talk about a murder in great detail and I would still fall asleep
Their expressions are hilarious lol 😂
What a good episode. I had chills
Early in the photo "choice" selection I could tell it was directing to Jane, in what direction to move; there was a similar puzzle game I recall from my childhood that "forces" the selection to a specific aspect. I think Penn & Teller have done this trick as well.
He really should've incorporated the Jane actress into the séance itself, that would've been hilarious
Thank you for sharing this; it's very kind of you.
I imagine she was in on it.
This was great hopefully there is more to follow, I would even like to take part one day. thanks Derren and the crew, Paul from "LONDON!"
This was aired for the first time in late 2008 , look at derren, he's got a full head of hair (all be it , receding and thinning ) in his newest of shows he is completely bald.
@@boadazapher2846 bless him lol mind you he doesn't look that old either. But i do like him he seems s great guy.
whyyyyyy am i watching this at 2am
cyndy t you are not wrong
Derren , keep them coming!
...on your face
I loved this masterpiece. Thanks for the video
Shout out to you Derren! Great job as always
Damn I wanted to see their expressions when they met Jane at the last 😕
Now we all know why people have to grab their hands each other during seance.
This is all ridiculous, you need a real medium, for a saonce to work.
I think it's to stop anyone getting up and either hurting themselves in the dark or exposing the hoax.
What is a real medium? Were the Fox sisters real mediums when they claimed to witness actual paranormal happenings for the first time?
I was texting someone when he was giving the instructions for the photo to pick. The bits that I did listen to made me go to Jane. I also liked her face and expression for some reason. Also, Darren is one strapping lad!
Pardon?
If you were following along and didn't pick "Jane", then you didn't do it correctly.
80% of the people will not see the end, and will walk away believing in the whole thing was real.
13:00 why didnt he show us what happened isinde the spirit thingy
You know what happened
I want channel 4 to give derren brown a new series
Instructions unclear, got picture stuck in the toaster kkkkk
Freak out guy just had a very serious panic attack. His mind ran wild with all the zuggestion that was put 2 him and the whole scenario he was in. We have all had them. Its when you feel like you are no longer in control of your own body.
Not sure how he got in the detail about the cat being called Harry or the father as a builder. Just obvious possibilities maybe?
You just got a group of good hypnosis subjects and had a little fun with their imagination...
Exactly. That is what Derren Brown does.
itai arbel don't forget to add good actors/improv.
Isn't that the whole point..
Holly clearly gave answers he wasn't expecting the first time round.
song at the end is: FortDax - These Quills
...no it's not, it's called Darude Sandstorm
I love the acting in this one:
“Derren don’t let anything happen to me”
And my personal favourite:
“That’s not right!” 😂😂😂
Sorry, but it’s not acted
@@i.ehrenfest349 Of course it is lmao 😂
@@greenman3464 if you were knowledgeable about Derren brown, you’d know this
@@greenman3464derren brown does not use actors for anything he does, that's his selling point, he's a mentalist and his tricks revolve around making real people think or feel things
I wrote down London while watching here on UA-cam
same xD Incredible LOL
Yeah so that just means that the techniques he used to plant london into peoples heads worked.
8:30 watch it slowly when the camera cuts to the next angle above the curtain you see her hand throw it lol
It's crazy how the participant at 11:06 went on to be a co-writer for Derren's shows after this taping.
I saw a clip on Facebook I went to Jane to straight away this is crazy
Damn I was really following along and I threw my nail clipper in the room but I did it on purpose and to be funny
If you say Derren Brown, Derren Brown Derren, Brown. three times fast, He will perform this in your mirror.
Oh shit though, I wish!!!
Nah he did on my my phone
...or you can email him and offer him money?
the board goes back to 551BC...English wasn't a commonly used language until 600AD at the earliest, and then it was in noway recognizable as the letters used on the table which is made out of plywood
Keep smashing it my friend 👍
Oh i get it, is this up loaded again because of the ‘sylvia browne end of days’ prophecies how she predicted the coronavirus in her book,? Because I was just researching about her and ‘remote viewing ‘, then all of a sudden I got a notification of this video ! Spokey
... every 2 years theirs a virus epidemic, nothing psychic about it.
Incredible feat of the mind, but how cold is it in there?? Everyone wearing gloves and jackets, or is that a way to get a mind in a certain state??
Maybe to make them uncomfortable to add to the atmosphere of ghosts and stuff?
Wouldn't a disused building in England at night in the winter be cold?
27:45 Lol , "is there a spirit present...wooooo" Hilarious
recognise the girl with black hair she looks like an actor i recognise
No matter what picture you choose you will always go to "Jane". Do it yourselves...oh you little!.. and I'm not from an English speaking country. But from Europe and its a country with a west and south coast to the Atlantic and we are near Spain. Oh my god! How did you guess Peter? You'll get a call this evening from your Mum and dad...
Fascinating!
So right around 3:30 ish i felt as if i was being watched and i could have swarn there was someone standing in my bedroom door, but as soon as i looked straight at it nobody there and instantly felt better as if i was alone again
Works watching it on UA-cam with a smart phone too (Jane, London). Thanks! Utterly entertaining. But what else is being shuved into our susceptible little minds? I'll go and worship my Darren Brown figurine now :-)
I didnt go threw with the rest. But did pick jane as well!!!! Crazyyy
Whichever photo you start with, you'll always end up at Jane if you follow the instructions. Derren deliberately arranged the photos in this way.
The people that chose the wrong name can't follow instructions properly or maybe partially dyslexic.
Your not meant to land on Jane 100% of the time
@@alexandercowley8090 Try the working, it literally works 100% of the time
EDIT - make sure you take into account stuff like "nearest" black and white photograph.
@@nedboulter9187 I would go back and re do it, but I'm lazy and after how tirggard the guy got over it I'm gonna stick by what happened to me
I want some new episodes!!!!
Then pay for them, you cheap trick.
Got Jane, lived in London, born in Leeds (close) and was studying medicine. Freaky
As long as you follow the directions accurately, you will always get Jane, regardless of where you start
lol how did that dude throw that paper, and then freakked out..Id like to see in there for that.
This is really great timing for Derren to have added a load of shows, while we're all stuck indoors!
