Just got a Euroarms Rogers & Spencer made in 1989 the other day. Shot it today, what a pleasure to shoot. I like it but it does shoot high with 45 Colt cowboy loads in the conversion cylinder. I'm going to shoot BP tomorrow so I'll see how it shoots 200 grain RNFP and round balls. I've been scoping out your BP videos, nice work.
Now this is what i have been wanting to see. Nicely done. I wish the replica companies would put gain twist rifling like the original colts had. My personal experience it seems to be more accurate as well. On top of less fowling and less leading in the barrel. I hope the whitneyville is treating you well. I would love to see more comparisons between the Dragoon and the Rogers & Spencer
Hey Blackie just wanted to say THANKS ! All of this C&B revolver stuff and now I have to go get ANOTHER one ! Was fine for manny years focusing on my flint musket . But oh no you had to get me going again . Hahaha didn't realize how much I miss em . For me its colt style , this will be 7 or 8th . Take care. M.B. D
Good video Blackie! I really like the Kerr conical bullet, I can load it in all my 44's without any modification to the gun. I did however put a Uberti plunger in my Pietta 1860 Army and my Pietta Dance Bros, and my Pietta 1851 and 1861 Navy's. They are better suited for conical bullets than the Pietta plungers.
I made some flash paper nitrated cartirdges last month for my Whitneyville Dragoon. When the weather warms up I want to do an experimental shoot with 20, 25, and 30 grain cartridges @25 yds, using a swaged .454 lead ball. I read Will Schroeder's: MAKING THE SKIN CARTRIDGE yesterday and today and found it very detailed, interesting, and informative. However I will not be making those cartridges since they leave unburned skin residue in the chambers. That is also why I don't use cigarette paper cartridges due to leftover charred paper in the chambers. I recommend cigarette papers for learning how to make paper cartridges, and they do work, but the debris they leave in the chambers must be removed/cleaned My cartridges burn 100% leaving the chambers clean as a whistle, so they can be reloaded without having to clean out the chambers. Flash paper and flash glue are expensive with the shipping charge, but they make the best cleanest cartridge I have tried. I wish someone could find the patented process used to make the original lamb's appendix skin cartidges, if it exists. I would also like to know if they were nitrated to burn clean.
Reading these comments Lol 🤦🏼♂️ Ok so I had to raise up the volume in the beginning to hear better but fortunately found that my old iPhone X had the juice to do it! Maybe some of the new fangled phones don’t have good volume controls? 🤷♂️ Then I had to lower the volume a bit when it adjusted differently during the shooting. I mean it was really hard, didn’t know what in the world I was going to do for a sec but then found that with just a few taps of the lower left button the volume eventually got down and I could listen comfortably! Then in a bit you moved a little and the volume went down again but I realized that as difficult as it was going to have to be I’d be able to move my finger again up to that top button and sure enough it worked! Ends up I didn’t miss a single word! It was a fun and enjoyable video!! I even learnt that I could back up the video by sliding this little red dot underneath backwards and I was able to listen to a certain part again without starting the whole video over from the beginning! Imagine! But I feel for the people like the one guy that complained he had to max his volume to hear at some points. That must have been like trying to load a paper cartridge in the heat of battle! And the people that are saying they just couldn’t hear 😓 my heart goes out to them as they struggle with their new fangled 13 model. I’m guessing that with more advanced filming techniques and equipment today’s phone designers are skimping and feeling they don’t have to send as much juice to the volume buttons? No need for the old style buttons that had a wider range. Just proves that despite what some think the older phone might just be the better one to have in the heat of listening! ☎️ 🤣🤣 Great video, I really enjoyed it! 👍
I think I love the old bangers more than the new ones. There’s not just a skill to it there’s an art to it. Figuring out the grain vs. charge. Easy isn’t always better, things go bad you can make BP loads out of some piss and ingredients. Your not loading your ar with that.
I'll stick with my 45 yr old 3rd model dragoon, I know at 25yds its bottom of a soda can accurate with round balls, an thats good enough for me. But I'm gonna one day down the road gonna test some of marks bullets an K. ijimas to, just to see what they do. Thx for the vid Blackie
Gentlemen (and ladies), I have a question. Why was there a .44 and a .45 cartridge (for example), was it just all the various gun manufacturers making whatever they liked? We see here, in the Civil War (and long before it) efforts to standardize weapons, loads and calibers, it makes perfect sense. This is only my thought (I wouldn't even call it a theory) is that the higher powered loads of similar sizes were deliberately made slightly smaller caliber so that they wouldn't explode the wrong gun? We heard of an old (Irish) war .455 that could be loaded with .410 cartridges, if you cut them back a bit, they worked fine. There are still a lot of rounds that will fit in the wrong guns accidentally if you don't know what you're doing, or if you do know what you're doing? When it comes to black powder shooting, it's a whole new (excuse the pun) ball game? On the subject of black powder and musketry in general, there must have been a battle when a light shower hit the 'priming ranks' at the wrong time, ie they're pouring powder that is getting wet at least in the pan? That must have happened? 'effed up by a light shower of rain? Anyway, salutez! Con
Dragoons are fine weapons. 👍 Many big feral hogs and coyote that run my woods have fallen to a 1967 mfg ASM 2nd Model Colt Dragoon I've had since it was new. Oh, and four whitetail bucks too. 😁
The Dragoon could do up to 40 grains with that 220 grain conical bullet. With Swiss 3f it would shoot cleaner and with more velocity and foot pounds of energy than with Goex 3f
I think it was mostly do to the 1860 army only holding 30 gr. And I think that they figured a guy shot with 35 grains would be just as dead as a guy shot with 50 grains. Lol just cheaper
The 2nd Pattern Dragoons in 1850 had molds to cast a 260 sugarloaf bullet that was almost an inch on length. You can charge 50 grains in a Dragoon using a round ball, but a ball that's .45 inches wide is a projectile that's .45 inches long. When you're loading what is essentially a rifle bullet that's twice as long as the round ball, you're going to have to give up space for the powder.
Wish it wasn't so hard to get a Rogers and Spencer. I emailed the Euroarms people here in the US and never got a reply. No clue how you get reproductions in good shape. Which is strange that Uberti and Pietta don't make a reproduction of that gun, since it's an incredible looking revolver.
I've never shot a Rogers and Spencer. But, I must say I am somewhat disappointed. I know a few people that have one and they all brag about the accuracy.
I used to own and shoot a Rogers and Spencer and it shot great with round balls, never tried conicals. Like a dummy I sold it, wish that I had it back!
That prick/rob-site is all over UA-cam, I haven't fallen foul but it is annoying at least. As many times as I ban it, it returns with a different address. How I wish I had the knowledge to shut that site down forever. Unhappily, I am old school, if reasonable debate doesn't work, there's always your fists? Point me at them but I'll need an escape too?
Colt Dragoon easy clap theres nothing to discuss. (Small disclaimer) I have never operated a black powder fire arm and am just a dick rider for America.
Come on blackie you got to lift your volume up. It's so low. I can barely hear you. I've pressed the button on my phone and the volume message high as it'll go. But there's still hardly no volume on your end. So check it every time you do it. Man, you going to make a video put your volume up where people can hear you people want to learn you got to remember that. Check your volume. Check your volume
Sorry Blackie couldn't hear the video!
Lol I love that "anywhere in here is kinda important" haha
"But I love my Colts" Quote to end the week.👍
Nice exercise...love the homage to Josey Wales in the thumbnail.
I have a Walker that I love to shoot. Looks like I'm getting a Dragoon. Great video.
Great head to head ! The Dragoon is one of my favorite BP pistols ! Happy to see it performed well !
You sure make them both look cool in that thumbnail Blackie!
Definitely proves that saying New doesn't always mean better!!

Very cool demo! And great story added in!
The best one is the one you've trained with.
Massive volume jump.
I jumped

Great video Blackie. I'm still trying to find some #10 caps so I can go shooting. No luck yet online ,perhaps I'll try a gun show.
Thanks Blackie! It’s always appreciated and fun! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Love it! Great work! I love my colts too!
That was fun man .amazing how sensitive weapons are and some arnt
Looks like load development is due for the Rogers & Spencer. Great video Blackie.

Great video Blackie!!!
Thanks Blackie
Nice job! I love my Colts too.
Low audio Blackie.
Great gun demo.
Great information
Thanks
Nice video Blackie.
Good comparison Blackie
Nicely done.
This just reinforces my happiness about my recent purchase of an Uberti 3rd model Dragoon, as if I needed any reinforcement!
Thats what I have, an its damned accurate to, had it over 45 yrs, an use it for blackpowder season hunting, mainly for hogs.

Will you be going to the BamaCarry State Wide Event on Feb. 18th in Prattville by chance?? Great video by the way Sir!!

Got a kerr mold in yesterday, just cast some this morning, hope to get to shoot soon. Enjoyed the video!
Great video brother.. having personally shot both of them, I think I prefer the "thump" of the dragoon too..
This was interesting. It was the first time I've seen a paper cartridge for a handgun.
Yep the blast from the gun lowered your audio again starting at 5:20.
Do you suppose the Twist in both those barrels are the same? Or even the same rifling as the original pistols?
Great video, low sound
Love my colts too Blackie lol

I used to have a replica Bannerman's Catalogue from 1900 and surplus Dragoons eor $3.50
where are you finding caps and black powder....
I like my Walker, but need to figure out how to lengthen my front site to keep it from hitting high. Any recommendations blackie?
Please post your results as this is a common problem
Blackie please add other cheap weapons. Hipoint rifles are really fun.
Planning to do some load development?
would love to see what kind of accuracy you can squeeze out of it :D
i will work on that soon
Love the content but something happened to the audio volume.
That R&S kicks like a mule…the Colt might be heavier ??…but definately sweeter shooting…😎
8:40 Well, I didn't expect this.
I love anything to do with black powder.
hi could you tell me if your r and s revolver look as if it was cast from a mould?
When they reduced the black powder charge, was it because of how the pistols handled, or economics? That reduction means a lot more ammo too!
I think it was mostly do to the 1860 army only holding 30 gr. And I think that they figured a guy shot with 35 grains would be just as dead as a guy shot with 50 grains. Lol just cheaper

I guess the sound has to travel a long way to get to New Zealand .. Please MAXIMISE your levels Blackie.

When will you Blackie show how to water proof a B.P. REVOLVER LOAD ?? WE NEED TO KNOW !! THANKS BLACKIE..
Blackie, you can afford to get a RODE mobile mic….
What was the cost difference when the Rogers and Spencer was new?
I think you need a microphone, audio is too low
I've never shot a Rogers and Spencer. But, I must say I am somewhat disappointed. I know a few people that have one and they all brag about the accuracy.
I used to own and shoot a Rogers and Spencer and it shot great with round balls, never tried conicals. Like a dummy I sold it, wish that I had it back!
It looks like the Dragoon will shoot longer..
Audio?
Audio got better at 3:58.
The sound level is way to low just barely hear the sound. gets better at 9:59 back and forth sound!
yep sorry its the camera once i shoot it can knock the sound off
No volume can't hear Video.
No sound
Lousey very weak sound!
I have speakers on max and can barely hear you. Gave up.
I got a message from someone trying to be you. Said I won a giveaway and to get on telegram.

Interesting, but invalid. Need to use original guns, not replicas.
Good video, but the audio on this video is total garbage.
yep sorry
Where are you getting percussion caps studd muffin?
